Startup/Acceleration sounds nicer on Taipei C321 while stopping/braking sounds better on Singapore C651. It's hard to beat Singapore C651 motor's slowdown sound with that perfect blend of high pitch melodies with low pitch background sound of the motor winding down at the end.
C651 sounds great on both the slowdown and the startup. C321 sounds great on just the startup. For some reason, the slowdown is blocked by wind noise, especially noticeable in the first clip.
Well I'm from Sydney, and none of our trains use Siemens GTO-VVVF nor Siemens IGBT-VVVF. I remember when I was travelling on a Tangara T-set train once, which uses Mitsubishi GTO chopper like the SMRT C151, I attempted to hum along the C651 traction sound, because as Sydney uses DC 1.5kV from overhead catenary instead of DC 750V from third rail like Singapore, the Tangara is a low-pitched version of the C151.
Actually, Singapore does have one line that uses 1.5kV DC overhead. The North-East Line, run by Singapore Bus Services with Alstom Metropolis C751A and C751C trains
@@spdfatomicstructure Yes, you're right. Singapore only has one line to use DC 1.5kV from overhead catenary, which is the SBS Transit North East MRT line.
Nice! But this won't ever beat the Keikyu N1000. It has the legendary musical motor. Sadly, all have been refurbished with IGBT-VVVF. However, if I would choose which is better, I would like the C321's body and the C651's paint scheme. For the sounds, how I wished Singapore's C651 has the musical inverter......
There is actually 2 familiar sounding trains at Brazil. The first one is the 3000 Series, It uses Siemens GTO motor, And its famous “violin-sound” is even better, Sadly, It's immobilized and will later be scrapped depending on the strategies. There is also another one called the 2000 series (The train on my profile picture), Which uses GTO and IGBT, inwhich in the GTO version, It uses high-to-low power. And in the IGBT, It uses low-to-high power, The starting of both version's motors are the same. Fun Fact: 2000 Series is not from Siemens, It was fabricated from CAF, ADTranz and Alstom between 1998 and 1999, Which debuted in 2000 on the known “Expresso Leste” (East Express). Its motor is an induction motor, And originally, Was used the IGBT motor, It has a total of 15 sets, 9 are operational in July 2024. The other 6 are being dismantled.
