I taught middle school and the father of Tariq Kamisa and the grand father of the 15 year old that murdered him came to our school and talked to the entire school in the auditorium. Tariq was a pizza delivery driver. He was set up to deliver to a bogus address. two older guys gave the kid a gun and told him to rob and shoot Tariq. They killed him and stole the pizza. The 15 year old got a life sentence. They travel to other schools. The Tariq Kamisa foundation. That was 20 years ago, and that kid is 35 and still rotting in prison. We planted a tree at the school for Tariq. I would like to see it now, how it's grown after 20 years.

He's 18 and dumb. Of course everyone knows murder, or even having a gun is wrong, but remember kids brains aren't fully developed (especially the prefrontal cortex that is responsible for decision-making) until their 20's. That's why insurance rates for young men doesn't drop until you guys are 25. I also don't get what kind of lawyer, even a public defender, he had that he is appearing before a court with this serious charge and he wasn't made aware of the possible sentence until he got to court. This kid just screwed his entire life.

Parents, teach your kids accountability early so they don't have to learn it later on.

I swear some of these young people don't think of the long term consequences when they do these crimes. Now that he knows he's facing the death penalty all of a sudden reality kicks in.

The sad part is he didn’t have the capability to think of consequences. The young persons brain is still developing. It’s not an excuse, there are more young people that do know better, however considering…. he is still very immature and foolish.
