This Filipino Engineer CHANGED OUR LIVES! Full SOLAR INSTALLATION Vlog

  • We finally did it! We got Solar Power and starting turning sun energy into electricity. ⚡️⚡️⚡️ We are currently completely off the grid (because there is no stable grid electric supply in Siargao at the moment due to Typhoon Odette ⚡️) This is our full solar installation Vlog.
Going Solar is something Sacha, Story and I have been talking about for such a long time. It took a super Typhoon to make us commit it to reality. But right now we couldn’t be happier.
It feels so liberating to be independent from the electricity company. No longer will we have to deal with Black outs / Brown outs or any colour of ‘outs’ 🤣.
We put our trust in Don Solar and his team from Surigao city. They take so much pride in their work and it shows.
    - For those interested we invested in a 6.75kwp Solar panel setup (15 x 450w panels)
    - We chose an DEYE 8kw Hybrid inverter (SUN-8K-SG01LP1-EU) which will allow us to add more panels in the future and also sell power back to the grid when we over produce. (That’s right, once you've been approved, the electricity company has to pay you back in energy credits!)
    - Then we store our solar power for the night time with a DYNESS (Powerbox F-10.0) 10kwh mega lithium ion battery. It looks insane when you see the whole set up ☺️
Price wise the whole system cost less than a 5 year old car, and Don is currently offering an install now pay later 0% monthly payment plan. (As of March 2022)
This isn’t an advert or a sponsorship, we paid for this with our own savings because we believe in the technology and it’s impact on the environment. Solar tech is SUPER cool and much more affordable than it used to be.
We are still in the testing phase but we are already blown away by this system and how it just works! We highly recommend sending Don a message even if it’s just to learn about how it works. ☺️ He’s honest , trustworthy and hard working.

*Love how Story is so curious and smart -- and knew the right questions to ask!* 😍 My Filipino dad is hesitant of new technologies like these but my Arab mom was saying that if we are going to settle down in PHL, we need to have solar power and take advantage of the tropical weather. It is just smart to get free electricity from the sun. It is only at the beginning that we need to invest but helps us in the long run.

You should consider buying a fire extinguisher rated for electrical fire and install it close to the batteries. Lithium batteries have been known for thermal runaways which cause fires. Hopefully the battery compartment has thermal sensors that will shut off the battery charging if the temperature inside the enclosures gets hot.

Hi there, from an architect's perspective, it looks like your roofing is concrete slab. Now, given that it is concrete, you should check all the holes drilled to attach the battens for the solar panels. These are all potential (I'm absolutely sure about it) sources of water leaks that will seep in the concrete and eventually drip inside your home. The first thing they should have done was waterproofed the slab as an extra precaution (with some waterproof paint), drilled and attached the battens, and waterproof again at all drilled points before attaching the panels. Unless they have implemented a waterproofing membrane already before installation which is good. I know it's probably moot right now since the panels have been installed. Just keep this in mind when the ceiling leaks during a heavy downpour.
Edit: I just saw they applied some sort of waterproofing. I hope it is durable enough and that the holes were doubled with waterproofing after being attached.

Off topic but if your landlord is replacing the windows that fell off during the typhoon it might be a good idea to replace it with sliding/bifold patio doors and put a covered decking out and enjoy the outdoors.
