  • It's finally happening! After over 2 years of living on Siargao island we got impressive new windows for Chaq Glass Butuan. Mixing the uPVC style we have in the UK with Philippines custom workmanship we finally have glass to be proud of at our little dream off grid beach villa project.
    We highly recommend this company, the windows are the best we've seen so far in the Philippines and their price was very affordable.
    If you are looking for windows this is their facebook page / chaqglasssupply2009
    This isn't a sponsored post or advert, we just felt their work was impressive and good value.

    Hello family! Silent supporter here since the start of your journey in the Philippines. Glad to see y’all doing better now there. Your daughter Story is such a ray of sunshine to watch.
    By the way, just a suggestion, maybe you could request your landlady to put a Storm Shutter, addt’l house protection whenever there’s a Storm. We use that over here in US since we are in a hurricane region, since you live near by beach, it could be useful.

    Hi Sha and Jay & Story hope everything works well. Maybe put a screen in the window so that you can open with fresh air without insect going in the house.And in regards of your Solar yes you can download the apps.

    So glad you were able to get the windows replaced. It's perfectly normal and wise to think of added protection after what you've experienced. I lived in Florida about a block from the beach, east coast and went through a few hurricanes. Nothing like a super typhoon. My cousin and many of my Florida friends invested in metal storm shutters for their ocean facing windows and sliding glass doors as a result. It gave them the peace of mind they needed.
    I'm now in Louisiana, to live near my grandchildren, but have moved further from the gulf due to bad storms and flooding. God bless.

    Are those windows bolted or screwed to the concrete? I'm worried that the sealant won't be enough to hold them

    • @IamaCanadianmom
      @IamaCanadianmom 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That's what I noticed also. the window may be thicker and look sturdier, but sealant is not going to hold it up for long, specially when there seems to be a gap at the top, I'm afraid someone leaning on it can destabilize the glue material that holds the frame and the concrete wall together. Dangerous. Had to be screwed for sure.

    It wasn't just the wind that broke your window but the surge and beach clutter and branches that came with them. So pls make sure there are no weak plants or objects by the window /near the house next time. Congrats on the developments around the house.

    the reason why you say the wind more stronger now than before its because all the trees around gone due to the past typhoon, I because open the surroundings and it's easily get true the wind directly to the window.

    Good morning Jay,Sacha, & Story! I’m happy to see your new window installed! But I’m a little bit concerned why they didn’t grill it to the cement frame. Usually it’s grilled first then the sealant applied after.

    Hi Jay - you probably noticed and so did I, that they did not anchor the window frame to the wall instead simply sealed the gap with caulk. That is concerning because the caulk isn't strong enough to hold the window frame. Please ask the installers to follow the manufacturer's instructions on how to anchor the frame into the wall. Or ask an architect. Take care!

    • @Dongitzclem57
      @Dongitzclem57 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I am sure the window frame was bolted, not just shown in thevideo. It is impossible to just apply sealant to strenghten the frame specially that siargao is almost always hit by strong winds. The installer knew that fro sure

    • @sandan778
      @sandan778 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Dongitzclem57 True , if it is just caulking, you push the window and it falls so it is not possible they had not anchored it well. I am sure those carpenters knew their job.

    I hope u could consider my suggestion for the windows of your beautiful house. Hence that the windows was destroyed by the strong typhoon. My suggestion was to install a ROLL DOWN STEEL COVER to protect the front window of your house & that includes other windows that was destroyed. Typhoons are very very strong nowadays because of global warming.
    I do hope you could consider my safest suggestion.
