Jay what I will suggest is that you purchase a dedicated UPS intended only for the Starlink modem. So that in a span of millisecond the power will not be disconnected and restarting the modem will not happen. Also it will protect the circuit from sudden surge of voltage.

Waited a bit after watching your Starlink purchase then bought one. Expensive but worth it. Less hassle from grumbled sounds when making phonecalls. We covered the bolts with sealant to protect from rusting. Took only 5 days to arrive by DHL to Batangas from USA. Happy with Starlink - thank you Ellon Musk for entering the Philippines.

You could put Vulcaseal or other water sealant to those mounting bolts to protect them from salty weather and probably slow down the rusting/ oxidation process. Nice setup there! I love combining technology with nature so one of my ultimate dream is to live in self-sufficient off-grid home in a vast wilderness, along the river, or in an island like that by the seashore.

Something to add, we purchased starlink but didn't have a place to set it up (sitting in Cebu City) so we canceled our service. we were able to get it re-established within an hour once we found a house outside of the city, so if people are coming over here for a few months at a time they could buy the system and cancel it when they leave then just get it going again once they are back.

so happy with it, I'm on biliran island and internet has sucked every way i tried for 8 years.
After the starlink arrived i had it up and running in 3 minutes on my terrace and have loved it ever since.
today me and my wife put it up on the roof finally, we wanted to get the roof all spot primed and repainted before we put the dishy up there, it took us 5 minutes to screw it down with some silicone caulk on the screws and away we go !
running the obstruction deal in the app now, it takes 6 hours or so, i expect no obstructions now, we had a little bit sitting on the terrace.

old school satellite would be geostationary , this would mean the distance from your house and the satellite it connects to is extremely far away, and starlink is low earth orbit thus able to lower latency, and the new starlink v2 satellite has "space lasers" allowing satellites to connect to each other via lasers also increasing its capability

Starlink have a new Gen 3 router coming out later, with WiFi 6. DC input from power brick. Compatible with the current Gen 2 router, by wire, or mesh. To add by wire to Gen 2 system needs the Ethernet adaptor, the Gen 2 in bypass mode, so it just powers dishy

    • @michaelbouckley4455
      @michaelbouckley4455 ปีที่แล้ว

I’m interested in getting the Gen 3 router, as I have 2 WiFi 6 devices. I would power it from DC direct from solar power. Tempted then to dismantle the Gen 2 router, bypass the mains input, and convert it to whatever DC voltage it needs. I have a fast transfer switch, so the Starlink stays on, if my inverter is on. It’s a DIY solar Lifepo4 with separate components. All 5v 12v 19v & 24v stuff like USB, router, network switch, Android TV box, Cignal, laptop and loudspeakers work from DC solar power 24/7/365

Got mine for my location in Guimaras, it's my backup as our fiber is easily disrupted by storms and falling trees as we are 300 meters away from the main road. We used to have a satellite service as it was the only thing available at the time we moved, which was php8.5k for only 35Mbps/down 5Mbps/up and a data cap of 500Gb lol, eventually we got our Starlink + Fiber 700Mbps and having both was still cheaper! I believe the upload speed is limited to a max of 25Mbps because of the hardware, as experienced by my previous satellite setup it is definitely hardware-related described to me by the operators, thought at 25Mbps it's still great for calls.

Try to find 316 stainless bolts to use.. they won't rust when exposed. Normally found at marine stores as they are used on oceangoing boats. You're near saltwater, which is the most likely reason for fast corrosion.

So sad hearing you spend bigger before the discount, but I am glad it's getting cheaper for everyone desperate for internet especially in the far flung islands. Starlink is better with VPN and solar power, and it is essential especially for typhoon-related news. The downside is that you need a debit card in order to pay monthly charges. Story will never be sorry reading new children's books digitally.

Since you're pretty much off the grid, I don't see any downsides in investing in a Tesla powerwall as well. The UPS can only keep a couple of devices running for a short amount of time, since it's made for PCs so you don't lose or corrupt your data...
Tesla is pretty much selling products that can help people live more comfortably in a remote areas. Solar roofs, power wall, electric cars, then there's Starlink, which is also owned by Elon... Pretty much takes out electricity and internet out of the equation. Now you just need to think about food and water.

Get an UPS, uninterruptible power supply, a generator and generator box so it stays quiet for neighbors.

Nice review. Did you happen to mount that satellite dish in the roof? also, how long is that cable wire? since you need to connect the dish to the modem right?

Right now, Startlink price in the Philippines is 28,000 Php. I wish I bought Starlink during the discounted period (August).

Hi J, Sasha and Story. you're obviously very happy with your service from Starlink. Can I ask if you think it would be reliable enough to do online teaching there in the Philippines?
