I remember beating the game unlocked playing as the Harry Osborn Goblin and messing around with a bunch of cheat codes.

you can tell that video games were mainly developed to be fun.
Today, video games are mostly just a product to make money.
All these achievements are now only there to make money and keep the player in the game. At that time people voluntarily stuck to the game because it was so much fun.
Don't want to know how many times I've played through Vice City or how many hours I've spent there with chaos and cheats. I can tell you a lot more than with GTA5.

I remember unlocking the green goblin as a playable character, this was before internet so was shocked,
I had to go to school 10 mins after but remember day dreaming about what it could be all day until I got home
I love that you mentioned how good it looks, because i've been seeing it get trashed in some reviews that i watched recently for nostalgic purposes, where reviewers keep praising Spiderman 2 and saying this one looks like shit. And honestly it confused me, because i still remember how the graphics were the first thing i noticed when i popped the game in back then, especially jumping from Enter Electro to this one on the next gen.
The details like clothes at beginning, traffic below you while you're in the air, the textures, it was amazing
I'm in the same boat. I recently played through a modded version of Spider-Man 2 on the Gamecube emulator and used the character model/suit from the first game because it still looks that good compared to the sequel games

@@coolster7092 It's a texture swap of the first game's suit put onto the the second game's model. It looks very clean in my opinion. Look up "Spider-Man 2 RE:Project" on youtube and you'll see some videos of the different suits and work done on the game.

The cheats were epic and hilarious. One I distinctly remember is "underthemask" which enables first-person mode. Also the OST is incredible
Same. To this day i remember the music that plays when you fight the Green Goblin at the end.
This game had a surprising level of care and effort put into it. It's not the greatest spider man game ever, but it had lots of fun extras. The fact you could replay the entire game as a Green Goblin, with his own unique voice, was a step they didn't need to take. Love it for that.
I remember getting an XBox original years ago, and wanting to find a game to play on it. I ordered this game on Amazon, (since Spider-Man 2 was too pricy then), and I had a real blast. Played it a bunch, and loved it. Dated, yeah sure, but it was of it’s time, and I loved playing it. It’s a fun game! Also, that Goblin gameplay was great, loved how they made it work. Kinda wish more games worked in stuff like that.
Calling something "dated" is a detracting and superficial way of pointing out the time period it came from. Imagine talking about a game from 2002, just to call it "dated" 20 years later. You're essentially saying that it's too indicative of its time to be good, which is just silly, especially considering that everything in your comment contradicts that statement.

The bomb mission was easy. It was the Oscorp stuff that was legitimately difficult and made me want to stop playing altogether.
I remember getting an "All Levels Unlock" cheat code to just skip Oscorp and play the rest of the game.
Funny how everyone remembers the stealth level over the bomb level.
The bomb level only gets really tight on the last difficulty, really. The Oscrop stuff was more annoying than difficult imo.
@@solblackguy I think everyone was able to beat the bomb level even if they didn't even knew how they did it (like me) but the Oscorp one was probably the reason a lot of us never finished the game as kids
@@TheDarknash I agree. Hell, I don't even remember the bomb level either until this video. Like you said, I probably beat it in 1-2 tries anyway. But Oscorp was a pain in the ass until you realize you're supposed to web zip from shadow to shadow.
I remember the Oscorp stealth levels scared the crap out of me the first time I played them. If the alarm is sounded, they send out these Super Soldier robots to gun you down. That means you gotta hide in the shadows until the alarm turns off. But I don't have a problem with them anymore, and I would often screw around on said levels.
The "unlock everything" cheat being Arachnid was SO clever
the ps1 title used "EEL NATS" for that cheat iirc

Oh gosh thank you so much for clearing up the Kraven stuff! My friend and I played the GameCube version of this game a lot as kids and we’d heard Kraven was in the game but were confused when we couldn’t find him anywhere. Never knew until watching this that he was Xbox exclusive! It’s probably been common knowledge out there for a while but I never knew until now. Now I can finally sleep again, I’ve had many a restless night all these years as I lie awake wondering where my psycho hunter was in my Spider-Man game! … Okay maybe not but it was still interesting to learn! Thanks Spider-Matt! You’ve done the world a service 😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁
The best thing this game did was model itself after the Neversoft PS1 Spider-Man game. Better sequel to that than Enter Electro, for certain.
Edit: Follow-up would probably be a more accurate term than sequel, come to think of it.
One other thing to note is the cheat where you unlock the Mary Jane skin. It’s only available in the black label version of the game and not the Greatest Hits re-release. My guess is that it was removed because of the ending cutscene where, if you equip that skin, makes it look like Mary Jane was making out with herself.
Honestly the most fun cool part was you could eventually play the whole game as the Green Goblin. Had that been done now we all know that the content would have been $$$$ dlc.
This game, the PS1 Spiderman games, and the Spiderman 2 game were some of my favourites as a kid. So nostalgic
This was my first experience, at least that I can remember, with Spiderman. Considering I'm an actual pro wrestler now who takes a ton of inspiration from The Wall Crawler, this game basically put me on a path I never really thought about until I saw this video.
A couple of fun facts:
1) All the cheat codes were in the official movie poster where they would normally print the movie credits.
2) Dwight Schultz, the voice actor for the Vulture in this game reprised his role for the 2018 game
Bro, Matt... you have NO IDEA how long I've been looking for Die By The Sword. I remember playing an early 3D knight game in the 90's that my computer barely ran and I've been trying to find it for over 20 years. THANK YOU!!!!!
Oh god I played this so much as a kid. this was one of my favorites on the PS2!
Also didn't know about Goblin mode! looked like an absolute blast!
I loved this game as a kid. I had the PC version and I played it A LOT.
The Green Goblin was so fun to play as, also you were able to use the cheat to unlock all levels, load up the final cutscene on the hardest difficulty (this unlocks Goblin)
Man I really love this game. My ps2 copy is so old that it still has the two girls one bridge oversight. Scorpion's story being cut makes a lot of sense. Even as a kid I thought something was missing. They prop him up only for him to disappear after 1 level leaving no closure. I'm surprised you didn't mention the lab levels. Those were so intense as a kid.

You forgot to mention 2 things:
One, there was a tutorial and a some minigames where the narrator is Bruce Campbell, being his usual self of course.
And one of the cheats made you into Mary Jane, which if you beat the game with, has her making out with herself on the bridge. This was reportedly removed in later copies of the game
Oh the movie tie-in, not sequel to the Ps1 games. Neat, always had fun with this one and that Harry Osborn mode was infinitely superior to the "New Goblin" we eventually got
I've played this game, like a lot. Flying around with the Green goblin and his glider and throwing pumpkin bombs was amazing
It's crazy how much games from your childhood are engrained in your memory. I haven't seen this game in probably 18 years but still remember it so vividly.

I remember going back into the cage fighting mode again and again in this game. And then the Spidey bowling mode was awesome too with all the cool different costumes you had available for Spidey

I’m glad you not only talked about this Game but also the GBA version as well. I love the PS1 Spider-Man Games more though since I played those when they came out. But man to go back 20 Years when I was 15 all over again playing this Game just brings back so many memories. Especially playing as Goblin. Never realized the controls were the same as the PS1 Titles, though I knew I had seen them before 🤣
Since they didnt have access to the movie, maybe they were like, “I would THINK Green Gobs would plant bombs in places and Spidey has to defuse em.” So they made that mission with that assumption?
Technically, this was Spider-Man 3. I mean it's techincally (mechanically?) a successor to Spider-Man 2: Enter Electro.
I have a vague memory of I think the actual Spider-Man 3 game having a reference to Enter Electro as well I think.
More mechanically since this was more in line with the movie's story.
I'm pretty sure this was the 1st videogame I sunk alot of my childhood into that wasnt my older brothers Super Mario World cart. All the unlockable costumes and cheats ruled. I was so glad that Ultimate Spiderman brought that spirit back with all the costumes and Venom mode, because that lack of extras really dragged the Spiderman 2 tie-in game down.

It's funny that you release this on this week in particular. I was just reminiscing about this game earlier this week. In particular, how absolutely ballin' some of the movie tie-in game's music tracks are, like the Green Goblin's theme. I have some fond memories of this game and even though the swinging is way out classed by Spider-Man 2, I think the level design and storytelling were pretty good, especially for the time.
John de Lancie was attached to this at some point? Having Q and Discord as Norman Osborn would be very interesting.
Hello Matt, it is me, a future person. Sony's Kraven the Hunter was great, it made a Kravillion dollars, and my favorite part was when the camera panned to Kraven's face and he said "It's Kravin time!" and started Kraving on people.
I completely forgot about Die By The Sword. Thank you for bringing back that part of my childhood
On a related note, Spiderman 1&2 for the PS1 were such amazing games.
You could say that in this game, Green Goblin is the Virgil to Spider-Man's Dante.

I remember when I was a kid and had this game on Xbox only problem was I didn't know how to continue the game, was to scared to proceed further, or just liked the first mission and tutorial so much that that was all I would play whenever I got on the game

Sneaking through Oscorp and then having to escape were probably the hardest things I've ever had to do in games.
I remember my brother wanted this game for the GameCube. He did beat the game and did the Green Goblin campaign. It has been 20 years since he played that game. However, our copy got stolen along with the Gamecube and everything else with the system months later at the same year.
The intro just made me think of something very silly: spiderman but wears a different mask for each expression.
I thought for sure when you mentioned one level being terrible, you were going to mention the Oscorp secret weapon level, not too bad on easy difficulty but practically unplayable on the hard difficulty!

It Blew my mind when I learned that you could play the game as Green Goblin and as someone who used the cheats i was like "oh it'll be like the other cheats where its just a skin like how Shocker was just a skin" and then you play as Goblin w/ Glider and has his own set of moves My 9yr old MIND WAS BLOWN AWAY.
In another reality someone figured out how to mod in a VS mode for the game where you could play as Goblin Vs Spider or any of the other villains
And Bruce Campbell calling you a "screwhead" in the tutorial, because Sam Raimi, and why not?

Easy way to beat the bomb mission: Keep double jumping and speed-swinging non-stop to avoid the lights and robots. Thats what i do every time i replay that part... Then again, i play on the PS2 version so maybe it makes a difference 😅
You forgot to mention in the later releases of Spider-Man (2002) Platinum Hits / Greatest Hits / Player’s Choice version where they get rid of the cheat code to play as Mary Jane because people would get quick parts of it looks like lesbians kissing even though it’s just Mary Jane kissing herself.

The Game Over music in this damn game haunts me to this very day, that was my "DKC1 Game Over", if you know what I mean.
I remember playing this it was so awesome! The stealth levels were disturbing to me as a young lad but beating the game older is just awkward good memories fighting green Goblin kicked my butt so many times

you should definately look up some old E3 footage of the Spider-Man movie game it's quite interesting how they had different concepts before the game was released. Like how in the game over screen, J. Jonah Jameson would berate the player with the newspaper plopping down on his desk. It's quite interesting. Definitely on TH-cam somewhere. Oh and the webbing in the game was supposed to be organic but by the time they were informed about the change, it was too late. That's why we had the web meter like in the original 2 Spider-Man ps1 games. But a bit of it regenerates albeit very little of it in the game. Also, don't know why Kraven the Hunter was only Xbox exclusive....just weird they did that.

Mom actually got me this for free when I got my xbox, I was flat out going to just buy the xbox without any games at first. Mom however said I could take something out of the discounted section and this was the only game that appealed to me and ocf I loved it!
I played this one a lot with a friend when it came out, but I never owned it until many years later. To this day I'm still stuck on that damn bomb mission.
The only memory I have of this game is having a dream one time that you could unlock a "Spider-Woman" by jumping off the tallest building in the game, spinning on the way down, and then jumping into the water.
Other than that, all I can say is that I have played it before.
I remember playing Spiderman on PS2 having trouble with a stealth mission going through vents and such and also that fight on the bridge, but thats basically all i remember from this game

Got this game on ps2 as a kid and I got it again in my 30’s and it’s still a blast to play. I even have the tips and tricks video on the special features disc for the movie that I like to watch for nostalgia
I remember one of my cousins getting this for Christmas, we spent all day playing it.
To beat the bomb level I would punch in the goblin cheat then finish the level with the goblin which was a breeze in comparison and then save after finishing just to reset the console.
I used to play this all the time as a kid on my Xbox, still have my copy today

Oh man! The PS2 version of this was the first video game I ever played, but we ended up trading it in for sonic heroes because it was so hard that even my older brothers couldn't get past the second level. Good times.
OH MAN DIE BY THE SWORD WAS SO EPIC BRO, good old memories. The combat system was so much fun, plus the interactivity..You could chop of a ghoul's arms and pick it up and use it as a weapon. The interactivity was so good for its time. It needs a remake. Like..Pronto

This game is nostalgia in video game form. So good. Spider-Man 2 had crappy graphics but is still memorable for the open world experience. Awesome cutscenes and gameplay in the first one.
