I watched an interview with GRRM, Condal and Miguel Sapochnik and they said it takes $30+mil to put the dragons on the screen in any realistic look, especially dragon fighting and this will probably push the show to 5 seasons.
You guys have to remember that they write the whole season well before they start filming, HOWEVER they had 2 major upsets after the season was written. The first was that HBO decided they only wanted to do 8 episodes to a season instead of 10. On top of that, HBO cut the budget from $25 million an episode to just $20 million for a season total of $160 million. And while that sounds like a lot, this show is making 3 films' worth of content for 1/3 of the budget. Is it any wonder they cut to the end of the battles and spent so much time at Harrenhal, getting their money's worth out of that set they built? The second major thing that got in their way was the Writer's Strike. Even though the British team was not on strike, Condal and Hess had to put down their pens and just stay with the show as producers/showrunners, unable to tweak the writing as they went along in order to fit better into the shorter season. It was kind of out of their control, so they had to stretch some storylines to make 8 episodes when they had to cut about 3 episodes' worth of content. On the podcast Condal said that this season (which only takes place over a few weeks, remember) has done all the character work and the players have explored every avenue for getting out of having to go to war. There is no path left to them, so war is coming, and that is what next season will be. The orchestra has tuned up, everyone is in place...all that's left is to start the dance.
The showrunner needed to set-up the war this season because Max/HBO/WB only gave them 8 episodes (instead of 10) and a limited budget. It's expensive AF to have 10+ dragons fighting, along with all the armies, and they just didn't have the budget to do it this season. Instead of greenlighting a new GoT spin-off (with no dragons), they should have invested that money into HotD because the show earned it after S1.
The face of the Weirwood that gifts Daemon his Greenseer sight has a face that was molded after GRRM face. Daemon puts his hand on its forehead... such a cool detail!
This season was the war of quills and ravens. It takes a ridiculously long time for a feudal army to be assembled and march across the country. This period of time where each side must make alliances and gain advantages is arguably more important to the overall war then the actual fighting. I also think the main point of this season is to give Rhaenyra, Daemon, and Alicent some time to do some introspection. Now Rhaenyra seems to finally have accepted the necessity of violence. Daemon has finally accepted Rhaenyra as his Queen. And Alicent has realized that Aemond is too far gone. Now that those three are more or less on the same page, they'll be a force to be reconned with. The third explanation is just that this is one book - not a series - so it's not really structured to be split into seasons with clear defined end points. Also they simply don't have the budget to do the upcoming dragon sequence as well as Rook's Rest in the same season. They'd either have to cut down on the quantity of dragons and scale of the action from the book or push it back.
I enjoyed it, lots of character development, the chess board is being set, we see the strength and weaknesses of each side and their desires. The tension is cranking up and I’m thoroughly excited for next season
Otto was captured by House Beesbury. Ser Criston killed their Lord in S1 E9 at the Table when King Viserys died. They did not take that well and are Team Black.

People have been complaining about shows not being done well and telling a story right so idk why most people are so mad. This show has been great. The camera work, acting, the special effects, wardrobe, music and dialogue. It does make me want more and I think that's a good thing.

the last 2 episodes mention that house beesbury has taken up arms against oldtown. lord beesbury was the royal advisor whom ser cole fatally face-planted into the council table last season. so that's one candidate explanation for otto's predicament ...

I think i saw a interview of Matt Smith saying he was excited for the fans watching Ormund Hightower in this season (and he didnd show up) and also Jace's actor told that was uncomfortable to shot the dragon sequences😭 might be delusion bc i dont want to wait 2 years, but i really think that they shot like two episodes that they end up not releasing for some reason? idk
I think they left it for next season because it feels like they want to drag for more seasons. What in my opinion is hurting both the show and passing more than it's benefiting it

I have 2 theories for who could be holding Otto. One is that Larys grabbed him as he was leaving King's Landing in order to replace him as Hand of the King. The second is that either the Beesburys or King's Guard Lord Commander Westerling captured him in order to hold him responsible for his treason against Viserys.

(Hence Rivers) I believe she was more older then what Lyonel mentioned and maybe was a wet nurse to lord lyonel. She knows a lot about weir magic and Daemon dreams. The question you should ask is, how many times she was alone during her scene or how many other people notice her presence other then the House Strong members.

I wish the entire show could just be Emma and Olivia on screen together. God the emotional intensity in their scenes is visceral and they are such intelligent actors, always playing the subtext and nuance so beautifully. I really liked this season. Things need to simmer for us to appreciate when it finally boils over.
I saw Brynden Rivers in the tree making him the 3-eyed Raven. I think Haelena has the power of foresight but she also doesn't know how to interpret or understand everything she sees from what i understand.

All the politics of the game are over and now the dance begins. I would’ve liked a cliffhanger of fire and blood with a dragons fury but now we wait. Season 1 ended a lot more strongly with Rhaenyra being the embodiment of the dragons fury. But there is no where else to go except for fire and blood
I don't believe Alicent. My theory is that this is her and Larys' plan, they want to give up Kings Landing for now, gain some time, keep Aegon away and try to convert new riders to their side. Maybe also sacrifice Otto, it would give Rhaenyra a bit of satisfaction. My theories are usually wrong however. But still I like this.

This was neither a good episode or a good finale. And the scene rhaenyra and alicent was one of the most stupid and unnecessary scenes. They need to change writers because they suck.
In this season, the main characters were destroyed, and the first of these characters is Alicent. Imagine, after the great hostility towards Ranira and her defense of her children, she simply comes to Ranira and gives her the plan for the fall of the capital and agrees to kill her son. 😬 And many things are not understood in this series. Disappointment.
The season turned out to be an absolute failure. So I will say for myself that season 8 Game of Thrones was not always logical, but at least full of events, and in House of the Dragon there was no logic or plot advancement as such. There were simply no battles except for the episode with Rhaenys. We were shown an arrow in the sky and Cole on a horse, which meant a won battle. Apparently, the team staging battle scenes quit HBO, I can’t explain it any other way... Disgusting cheap graphics. Honestly, the prophecy scared me, apparently the entire budget went to dragons. You can’t look at the plastic armor of the Lannisters without tears after the hand-made masterpieces from the previous series. And the plot... Would there have been a plot here? Seriously, the first season ended when the two sides were about to fight. The second season ended the same way. They were still going to... All that was remembered after eight episodes was the murder of Aegon's child, the death of Rhaenys and the taming of wild dragons. Daemon and Alicent were simply destroyed as characters. The writers sent the first one on a trip-tour for the whole season, turning the proud dragon into a pathetic idiot who was shut up by a child. The second one, from a religious woman who loves her children, was made into a concerned traitor with the habits of a sociopath who runs away to her friend for fan service. The eternally suffering Rhaenyra, who did absolutely nothing the whole season, and at the end decided to ult and give the main weapon of her family to the vagabonds (this will be an epic failure for her) and stand in the frame with a sword. A truly "great queen". I really find it funny when they try to compare her to Daenerys. For the sake of drama, for some reason they ruined the relationship between Aegon and Aemond, although they always fought together against Rhaenyra's children, and flew together to battle Rhaenys. There was no food riot under the greens. Guess three times who will start it))) Thank goodness that at least Jace, Baela, Helaena, Aegon and Adam got an adequate storyline in this chaos. Apparently, the neural network that writes dialogues instead of people for this season sometimes failed. Many scolded Miguel Sapochnik because of the Game of Thrones finale, but nevertheless his handwriting was well felt in Season 1 of House of the Dragon. After his departure, the series turned into a battle of the great martyr against the "usurper" with primitive dialogues, cheap graphics and an absolute inconsistency between the scriptwriters, who supervised individual episodes and, ignoring the characteristics of the character from the previous episode, molded something of their own from him in the new one. There was no movement on the plot, because HBO decided to make money and announced that they would try to make many seasons.
SO when is the finale, cuz its gonna be AMAZING. I mean WTF...this season has been boring with a DUD of a finale. Just like Acolyte, I'm happy its over.
Daemon received a free HBO Max trial, so he binge-watched all of GoT before the trial ran out 😂

Like Daemon and Rhaenyra’s storylines this season weren’t utterly repetitive and dull (“wHaT woULd yOu hAvE me dO “) Alicent’s dumbass selling out her entire family who have no idea and are marching to their deaths and Heleana spoiling the entire show. I don't even know how Otto end up in a cell man!! You cannot convince me all this couldn’t have been the first half of a 10 episode season.
HBO fumble up big time. To the writers of this show, you suck.
If anything episode 7 was a much better "season finale" than the actual finale 😅 this particular episode was a little underwhelming..

All the politics of the game are over and now the dance begins. I would’ve liked a cliffhanger of fire and blood with a dragons fury but now we wait. Season 1 ended a lot more strongly with Rhaenyra being the embodiment of the dragons fury. But there is no where else to go except for fire and blood

I don't believe Alicent. My theory is that this is her and Larys' plan, they want to give up Kings Landing for now, gain some time, keep Aegon away and try to convert new riders to their side. Maybe also sacrifice Otto, it would give Rhaenyra a bit of satisfaction.
My theories are usually wrong however. But still I like this.

This was neither a good episode or a good finale.
And the scene rhaenyra and alicent was one of the most stupid and unnecessary scenes. They need to change writers because they suck.
Sara Hess and Ryan Condal really are incompetent for this.
In this season, the main characters were destroyed, and the first of these characters is Alicent. Imagine, after the great hostility towards Ranira and her defense of her children, she simply comes to Ranira and gives her the plan for the fall of the capital and agrees to kill her son. 😬 And many things are not understood in this series. Disappointment.
The season turned out to be an absolute failure. So I will say for myself that season 8 Game of Thrones was not always logical, but at least full of events, and in House of the Dragon there was no logic or plot advancement as such.
There were simply no battles except for the episode with Rhaenys. We were shown an arrow in the sky and Cole on a horse, which meant a won battle. Apparently, the team staging battle scenes quit HBO, I can’t explain it any other way... Disgusting cheap graphics. Honestly, the prophecy scared me, apparently the entire budget went to dragons. You can’t look at the plastic armor of the Lannisters without tears after the hand-made masterpieces from the previous series.
And the plot... Would there have been a plot here? Seriously, the first season ended when the two sides were about to fight. The second season ended the same way. They were still going to...
All that was remembered after eight episodes was the murder of Aegon's child, the death of Rhaenys and the taming of wild dragons.
Daemon and Alicent were simply destroyed as characters. The writers sent the first one on a trip-tour for the whole season, turning the proud dragon into a pathetic idiot who was shut up by a child. The second one, from a religious woman who loves her children, was made into a concerned traitor with the habits of a sociopath who runs away to her friend for fan service.
The eternally suffering Rhaenyra, who did absolutely nothing the whole season, and at the end decided to ult and give the main weapon of her family to the vagabonds (this will be an epic failure for her) and stand in the frame with a sword. A truly "great queen". I really find it funny when they try to compare her to Daenerys.
For the sake of drama, for some reason they ruined the relationship between Aegon and Aemond, although they always fought together against Rhaenyra's children, and flew together to battle Rhaenys. There was no food riot under the greens. Guess three times who will start it)))
Thank goodness that at least Jace, Baela, Helaena, Aegon and Adam got an adequate storyline in this chaos. Apparently, the neural network that writes dialogues instead of people for this season sometimes failed.
Many scolded Miguel Sapochnik because of the Game of Thrones finale, but nevertheless his handwriting was well felt in Season 1 of House of the Dragon. After his departure, the series turned into a battle of the great martyr against the "usurper" with primitive dialogues, cheap graphics and an absolute inconsistency between the scriptwriters, who supervised individual episodes and, ignoring the characteristics of the character from the previous episode, molded something of their own from him in the new one. There was no movement on the plot, because HBO decided to make money and announced that they would try to make many seasons.
