I just bought a mavic 2 zoom it's amazing the technology in this thing only 10 years ago we would have dreamed of something like this cost millions of dollars. I have flown RC aircraft for years I never would in my dreams think that 2.4G could go this far. I worry about going 1000 feet away with my RC planes. Todays lipo technology is amazing look how small the battery is on the mavic still able to go that far and return. Multi-rotor aircraft are not the most efficient rotor system still they are able to get long ranges.
Cool video as always. Loved the drone on the helipad. Some of the panning got a little choppy, but not too bad. We'll be waiting for your next SUPER long range video, I know you can go a lot further than 12k feet, just let the ship get a headstart.

This was fun to watch! I like recording moving objects. It makes for great video! I know it wouldn't be possible but it would've been BADASS if you flew in the back of that ship where it was wide open and fly around inside! Lol! 👍👍

Excellent video, I am always impressed with pilots who fly their expensive drones without fear ... I'm new to it and am still learning that fearless skill. By the way, is it 'legal' to fly a drone so close to a cruise ship? I thought there may be some security issues, e.g. no-fly-zones over public stadiums, etc.
Greg Mihran He was fine. It didnt fly over the ship or do anything that might've been questionable. I think he was flying in a safety conscious manner. 👍

You'd not know that with all these distance videos on YT. ;) Also, it is my understanding (before the new Bill signed that did away with Part 336) that FAA regs are advisory and not 'law'. I've yet to hear of the FAA fining folks like this guy or the plethora of others that go extreme distances. Not to say if you crash into people there will not be consequences. While I am not commercial, I plan on getting my Part 107 and various waivers just to be fully legal. Things are changing, we'll have to see what shakes out.
Valid question but clearly there was no risk to the cruise ship or any people even if the drone fell out of the sky... People that question the legality of flights shit me.. I'm new to it too but I have an understanding of the rules but there's nearly always some drone sheriff questioning the legalities of my flights. It's amazing how warped somepeoples comprehension of a basic statement can be lol

I love flying, and editing I am just getting into. I just dropped my first very basic drone video of the city of Pittsburgh Pa USA. Just used the DJI fly app editor and uploaded in the max allowed 1080p. Its not the best but good for social media. God Bless, happy and safe flying

I love flying mine out to sea, you get the longest range. nothing blocking your signal at all. I have gotten mine to about 4.5km max
