Downtown EP0.3 | Hood Set Up: Speed Build Wright Way | The Sims 2

- This is the second part of the speed build mini series before I can start playing with Downtown. Wright Way is a row of connected townhouses that are actually apartments. These houses will be great for the more established families and elders in my hood.

These feel so much like actual town houses, I love them. Any chance you're planning to share your some of these builds? Honestly love your building and decorating style, i wish my towns looked this good! And yes the noise in apartments often stops me from playing on them, it's fun sometimes but when it's every time it becomes annoying. Can't wait to see the families move in.

Fun fact, its not just sims 1 that has a street called Wright Way, theres one in Pleasantview

Great episode! I loved the idea of using nicer doors on the exterior and having the apartment doors just inside. The staircase right by the front door makes a lot of sense, too! These apartments very much remind me of row houses. Beautiful builds!

Ohhhh these builds look so great! All of this apartment building, I'm picking up so many tips I didn't know before - like the invisible fence on foundation thing, whaaaaaat 🤯 I'm really curious about how functional those backyard spaces will be; I'm guessing the Sims won't be able to place things in them / edit them / add furnishings but maybe just use the space? You'll have to let us know!
The loss of the huge front gates was a shame, will you be able to put them back in game?
Also, just saying, the idea of putting the nicer front doors in and then the apartment doors back in a vestibule... actual genius lol omg why haven't I ever thought of doing that before 🤣🙈

Thank you my dear 🥰❤ I'm so glad I can show you some things since I've learned so much from you! I'm curious too - I really hope that they will be accessible and part of the apartment. That's what the tutorial suggested but I won't really know until I try moving a family in.
I agree, I was so bummed out, they looked perfect 💔 I think that I don't want to risk putting then in and mess with the lot with sims moved in. I did try to figure out of perhaps it would be possible to make the gates into walk-through deco items instead though, although I have no idea how one would do it 🤔
@@AniBats I think the huge gates I have in my game are just walk-through deco 🤔 id have to double check. I'm sure I can ask a few people around Discord for tips on how to make the Sims walk straight through them though 👀👀💕
@TeaAddict oh wow really? You have them in buy mode/ deco? They don't attach to the fences? It would be awesome if you could point me to them in that case ❤
These builds are so inspiring! ❤ I love the idea of two apartments together like this. And I absolutely love the style you're building these in. I've really been enjoying these first episodes of your Downtown setup, can't wait for the next one. 😊 And yes, it does look like you could do this in your sleep. And not just with those last builds. These reminded me a lot of my building my own families home when I was like 12 😢 we didn't have stairs though I wish lol that wasn't until I was a bit older.
Also I can see one of the families (with kids, probably the younger ones) buying both apartments on a lot here and connecting them maybe? Or a family or two related living next to each other or maybe a grandparents... next to their children and grandchildren 😊

I love these houses, they feel so realistic! I made over Downtown a few years ago and watching these makes me wish I'd made them into rowhouses too - it looks so good! Am excited to get properly caught up on your Downtown series, I love what I've seen so far :)

As for the panelled walls, I did scour the internet for them some time ago when I was asked for them by someone else, but it turns out that the simmer who created them doesn't have them up anymore (I think they might have been on a tumblr that's gone). Question: do you have some kind of monetary threshold that you use to define what's a poor middle or well off family? Or is it just vibes?
I identified with what you mentioned about wanting the houses to be slightly different from eachother so that the game wouldn't be boring. I copy pasted two types of houses on my BACC to start and that's a decision I'm regretting vividly. I'm trying to pick up the courage to rebuild all of them lol

Hmm no not really, it's more "vibes" as you say. I think I'll probably put the poor families in debt with help of Monique's computer to make sure they don't gain funds too quickly. The other families, I'll probably make either "comfortable" or, in the Diva or Mr Big's cases, stinking rich.
Yeah I've fallen into that trap too! It's nice in a way, because it allows you to get to playing quickly, but after a while it starts to get boring seeing the same houses over and over again. It might seem like a lot of work to rebuild, but it'll be worth it in the end. Perhaps try to re-build each house individually rather than starting from scratch? That might make things easier, to work from a template (at least, it works like that for me).
@@AniBats I took some time to work on some community lots for now, as they are different enough from eachother and have been allowing me to learn some tricks to build faster. Hopefully I'll be more effective when I make it to the houses hahaha

Thank you 🥰 Oh wow, I haven't thought about that for a long while. The Ultimate Collection has really spoiled me it seems. Hmm 🤔 Well, the obvious one is Apartment Life. If you'd like to use driveways, I suppose also Nightlife is needed. Otherwise, I'm pretty sure you could get a build like this to work
I love watching you set up your downtown! Though I do have a question, how are you recoloring the stairs? Are you using a mod?
Thank you 🥰 It's edited modular stairs with enabled recoloring. You can't recolor from the catalogue, but must first place the stairs and then use the design tool to recolor each step individually.

HugeLunatic has more such stairs on MTS that I highly recommend.
I also use stairs that are open underneath for more variety and more build options.
If you want those, I recommend getting the Scriptorium for easy installation (otherwise you'll have to edit a game file to add custom stairs): modthesims.info/d/192613/the-scriptorium-v-2-2f-bugfix-radiance-2-4.html

I would love to see them if you feel like sharing pictures ❤ Custom windows often come with separate files for normal and diagonal windows, so my guess is that you are missing the file for the diagonal version of the window. I'm sure that if you check out the download page for it, it should be included 🤗
