  • This is the first of a coming series of speed builds in Downtown. I aim to start playing as soon as possible, but a few renovations are in order before then. Mendoza Lane is going to be a row of low to mid-value apartments mainly for single parent households and roommates.

    I'm so happy you're continuing filming the downtown set up! I particularly enjoyed this video as I love watching your renovations and I love what you do with the lots ❤

    You're sooo right when you say "don't start that way or you'll work yourself out of your motivation". It's happened so many times to me I felt like I was just not made for this game anymore, when actually the game was made for people like me and I should just enjoy it without overthinking too much, it's actually better when it's not perfect, especially from the start
    I would love to see Sims 1 lots recreated here! And I'm 100% stealing that fencing technique to enable driveways for appartements. I guess it means it's also possible to recreate an underground parking area where appartement has their own box ? What I find difficult in appartement lots is to make each appartement unique. I tend to simply copy paste them and there's no fun in choosing which appartement best suits the family moving in.
    I don't think I could pick a favourite now, my choice usually depends on the family living there and how they furnished the appartement. Can't wait for the next videos to find out
    Anyway, thanks for such a great video as usual, your buildings are so real and homey! What a great way to start the weekend

      I think that a lot of us who still play ts2 are more or less perfectionists and it's so easy to get into the mindset that everything has to be "perfect" before we can start playing. But I think you make a good point that it can even be better if it's not perfect from the start - what often happens is that if you take break from building, when you come back, you have new inspiration to pull from that will bring in some differently looking lots, and that really does add character to the entire hood that wouldn't be there otherwise.
      Great minds think alike! Yes I think that it will allow for an underground parking area! That would be a lot of fun to try out building down the line 🥰
      That's a great point too, and I've definitely fallen into the same trap myself plenty of times. But indeed it is fun picking out the most suitable apartment for a family, same as picking the best house, and that gets lost if they all look the same.
      Aw thank you so much, Émie ❤ Have a lovely weekend!

    Oooh I really like thinking about how busy some roads will be, I always get a bit disoriented when planning a hood and this is definitely an angle I'll think of next time. I really liked the final look of the street and I'm looking forward to the moving day.

    This is so cool to see you set up a hood like this. I love hearing the thought process behind certain things. I feel so overwhelmed about starting hoods but it makes sense to just build as you go. I’m curious if you ever play custom hoods you build from scratch if if you mainly play premade hoods? Is it a similar process or do you go about it a whole different way? Love the videos!

    • @AniBats
      @AniBats  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you, Cassie 🥰 Starting new hoods definitely can be overwhelming! I have played a ton of custom hoods through the years - it was actually what I started out with coming from the sims 1, and also what I played with just before starting my current Pleasantview. Being able to create your own world is such a fantastic concept! However, for me, maintaining my interest in a completely new hood with nothing in it from the start is far more difficult than playing a premade hood. That makes the set up very different. I have come to realise that the most fun I have starting completely fresh is creating my sims in a separate Uni hood and playing them throughout college. That way I can get to know them before bringing them into the real hood, and they have a chance to make friends/enemies/lovers too which makes things far more engaging. My biggest struggle with a fresh hood though is knowing what style to go with for the buildings since there's no "hood vibe" to pull inspiration from.

    Nice 🔥I really love the simple elegance in these apartments, they definitely create the urban vibe you would imagine in the downtown.
    And what you said about burning out in the beginning really resonated with me. I did not realize how much I needed to hear these thoughts. Thank you, amazing as always!

    If we all just had Ani's Downloads folder 🤣
    This was an inspiration!! Now that I got the new pc I must load the game and see if it still gets pink everywhere without cc by only playing a bit. I hope not >.< But I really want to take over the hood I was building some months ago, following your master guidelines hahaha
    Love you 💕

      @@AniBats Thank you, as for now, with the basic cc, I've experienced a change in the tree and road shadows when I play for a few days in the same lot, they turn a bit purple 😞 I hope it doesn't get worse.

    • @AniBats
      @AniBats  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Oh really? You're the second person to tell me that you're having such an issue all of a sudden running the game on a new computer, but I've never seen/read about it anywhere else. That's so odd! I hope it can be easily fixed, it sounds really annoying 😮 Since it's got to do with the coloring of shadows, it sounds to me as if it could be something to do with shaders... Are you using a lighting mod right now? Perhaps changing to a different one, or applying one, will make a change? (I'm just wildly guessing)

    • @BrokenDoll.
      @BrokenDoll. 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@AniBats I had this issue in my previus pc too 😓 and yes, it seems to be a weird issue because I didn't find anything about it either. And, no, I didn't install any lighting mod yet, just the basics, default neighborhood terrain and road, default skins and eyes... and a few simple mods. I'll test it without any cc, in the same hood (it's large) and let's see what happens...

    Î am so busy recently, that i was just today able to watch the last recent Pleasantview video and already got blessed with another great video of yours 😇
    As always, i am so impressed at how creative you are and how your building turn out. It was actually you that inspired me to start a new save file besides my megahood.
    Funny enough, i decided on playing a sims1 old town + downtown recreation, which fits perfectly, considering the fact, that you are playing the sims2 version of it 😁
    Its such a pleasure to be able to watch you creating a new save/hood from the start. What you are doing, fixes etc
    Thank you so much for doing that 🥰

    These turned out beautifully! I'd have never thought they were those original houses but I can see how you kept the shape and footprint of them, shows a little inspiration can go a long way. These look absolutely perfect for downtown. Just wanted to say that you actually can edit apartment walls etc while sims are living in them with cheats. Use 'boolProp aptBaseLotSpecificToolsDisabled false' to edit parts of the apartment they own like their interior walls or 'boolProp aptSubLotSpecificToolsDisabled false' to edit outside of their bounds e.g. to plant a tree in a communal outdoor space etc. Hope that's helpful! Similarly for dorms you can use 'boolProp dormSpecificToolsDisabled false' to edit those (which is weirdly also the cheat for enabling buy mode on community lots), and speaking of dorms I loved your idea of faculty buildings! Wow 12 must have been a lot so no wonder you ended up copying them but I can see how that would get boring. I'd love to try that idea sometime, but I'd probably group some of the majors up and have one building for the sciences, one for the arts, and one for social studies or something like that. Thanks for the ideas and inspiration! Can't wait to see how the rest of this hood comes along💖
    Edit: I was just thinking, have you heard of Lamare's 'Electric box, power generator, and more' unreleased mod which you can find in a thread on Mod the Sims? It introduces scenarios like power cuts or the phone lines going down and things like that, and it would be ideal for these style cheap apartments. Its in Beta but I've used it and not encountered any issues with it.

    • @AniBats
      @AniBats  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Thank you 🥰 Yeah I've used those cheats and they can really come in handy. They don't affect the "real" house though, only the current family "instance", so that's kinda what I meant. But you're right, it's possible with those cheats.
      The faculty buildings were a lot of fun, but I think your take on it with several majors combined into one is far better than my version was 🤭
      Oh wow, no I haven't heard of that but it looks cool 😮 Must be a pretty complex mod, but then Lamare is an incredibly talented modder.

    Really enjoyed this!! Oh man I felt you on the "needing to download that free invisible fence" thing - like whyyy have I not just done that yet lol. What one did you end up getting??
    Also really enjoyed all of your commentary, and everything you said at the start of the video was so on point about just getting to the gameplay as quickly as you can and not spending so long "preparing" that you've lost interest. Definitely such an important message for simmers to hear!
    I liked all of the apartment buildings a lot, I think my favourite might have been #3, something about the bright green walls sparked joy 😊
    Can't wait to see your take on the house of fallen trees by the way 😘 that thing is a beast lol

    • @AniBats
      @AniBats  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thank you 🥰 Haha! It's one of those that you only remember when you need to use one I think, but it was so great to finally get a proper one. I got this one by Niol on MTS: modthesims.info/d/219292/moi-s-fence-collection-invisible-meshless-ts2-compatibe-fence-2-sided-fences-hybrid-fences-postful-or-postless-fences.html
      I think so too, it's so easy to get wrapped up in the planning and I think a lot of us who still play ts2 are more or less perfectionists. So it's an easy trap to fall into - I don't know how many custom hoods I have dropped for this reason in the past.
      Thank you ❤ Ah cool! It really is a cheerful color.
      Omg I've got to admit that I'm scared 😂 Don't know if you've noticed, but there's one build in Pleasantview that I have yet to renovate because it intimidates me so much: 210 Wright Way. The House of Fallen Trees is that house's evil twin sister on crack 😂

      @@AniBats Thank you for the link to the fence! I'm going to add it to my game this morning so it's just DONE. The other one really is far too expensive!
      Haha I've never noticed that you hadn't renovated the Doll House in Pleasantview, that one is fun! House of Fallen trees scares me too though. I think I might have looked at it once?
