This was the first single off the first album. They used to open their live shows with this. This was the first thing I ever heard from Tom Petty and the heartbreakers.
One of the best from TP&HB. Insync and sounding very fresh. 1977 the pinnacle in Rock and Roll History. It seems that 1978 started the directional change for what we called "Rock Music" . The music we had released to us in 77, and Prior, is the Real History of Rock. The roots had the Blues and Rockabilly styles from The Big Bopper, and Elvis, past the Beatles, and Stones, on through Aerosmith, Bowie, Nazareth, Nugent, & Rush, on to Z Z Top, we had the best written and recorded Jamms. The late 70's into the 80's styles changed rock by others (Record Labels) altered rock music's core. Long Live the Greats, as we still rock to them, Many from our Rocking Chairs now.
Love this live intro… so glad I got to see the band live a few times in the UK. Tom Petty will live forever ❤️⭐️
My favourite Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers song. Great guitar, hook and snarling angry lyrics by TP.

I'm almost 71 and all that I've seen and heard, TP&tHBs are the best!!!
Three cheers for German television and the Rockpalast program.

A true classic I like it
The B sides of tom petty early music were among the best out there....few rivaled his repertoire......and mike can sure play guitar.
AMAZING
wow I love this!!
Always preferred this live performance to the studio version - B-side to one of their first 12" singles.
How did I not hear this 37 years ago?
I hear ya. I'm the same with many other songs/bands of that era.
Tom may not like it, but I do. Thx, boys.
