I think this song is a beautiful example of why Benmont Trench may well be the single greatest piano player in rock n roll. He plays way less than he knows he's able to here, giving the emotionality of the song room to breathe. Just the sparsest notes and yet they are so well chosen, so lyrical and melodic that they somehow carry all the emotional weight of one of Tom's songs without ever obtruding on or overwhelming anything else thats going on here. I don't know anyone else who ever did this so well
It looks like even the crowd, obviously Tom Petty fans don’t know what’s about to be played. One of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard in my life! Very happy to have found it! Thanks for posting it!
It is, but if most things you worry about never happen, shouldn't we worry about everything, every worst case scenario, if that will never happen if you worry about it?
@@gonzostrangelove6107 Not my whole life but most of it. I still miss and love him. Rest in Peace Tom Petty. You will always be rembered and loved ❤✌️🌼
honestly, I don't understand how anyone could give this a thumbs down.... this is one beautiful masterpiece from the masters of American music. God Bless TP and THB
You aren't alone, it just grabs your heart & soul and doesn't let go. Much like alot of his music from 1993-1999, his darker days when divorce, heroin, and depression ruled his life. He didn't like playing the music live, but did on a few occasions like this one.
The Wildflowers album is indeed a Masterpiece of unforgetable and beautifully written Songs. I love to listen to Crawling back to you, Wildflowers' song or Honey Bee ...
years later agreeing with you; I spent a year and a butt load of money in the front row of many a show that last tour. Crawling back to you was something he did for himself each show- so hauntingly beautiful and intense. More talent on that stage than one can comprehend
can't fathom why he rarely played it live. maybe because it's so damn intimate. gets all the way through to me and i don't even know if I could tell you why.
when my mom was pregnant my dad left her and she had to raise me all on her own. she told me about how she danced to this song with me as a baby in her arms in her small flat. listening to this song gives me chills every time.
Rest in Peace Tom... you were one of a kind brother... may you sleep with the heavenly angels up above, may your melodies be the gifts you leave behind for generations to hear your spirit last beyond the hands of time...
I knew of him and his music but never really listened... till he passed. My god, I can’t believe his music was this dam good. His xm channel is now my #1 designated channel. Tom Petty u were a master musical talent. God seems to always take the good ones early.
this is the same with me. i never really listened till these past few months and it honestly brings tears to listen to his music. the lyrics just make me feel like there’s someone that understands me and is here for me. i’m so sad that i never got to see him when he was alive.
Same with me! I never took the time to listen to any albums until Covid. He was the best ever and love the band! I can’t believe I never went to a concert. I missed out on so much. Sounds like he was such a nice person, too. Makes me sad.
Thank God for Tom Petty. He could say the most with the fewest words. Like lightening in a bottle he was the purest master to create music magic. Miss you so much, Tom!
Tom had a wonderful way of letting us see his Humanity and ours he was such a genuine caring kind man brilliant songwriter and much much more he is sorely missed, I'm still heartbroken
I am extremely glad that I found this genius in the best years. I was born in 1975 in Ukraine, but since 1989 this is my one of my favorite rock artists. Real rock inlelegent
My husband and I fell in love to Wildflowers 20 years ago and this song is so special to me. He left me in July. Tom's death is like a second leaving and I can barely bear it, but I'm grateful for the music he left us. RIP.
Gwen, don't be sad, here’s a story for you: I had a rock band in Ukraine 1992-2002 and we played The Beatles & Rolling Stones, we made up our songs, but I always asked the guys: Can I sing two or three songs by Tom Petty? And it was such a pleasure to perform Learnin ’To Fly, Free Fallin’ and Crawlin ’back to you;)
My favourite Tom Petty song. Always reminds me of trips I took in the '90's to American SW & California. Saw Tom at Hyde Park in 2017 and it made my day to see him & Stevie perform on stage. Then hearing this was the icing on the cake.
Petty’s Wildflowers album is definitely my favorite out of all his masterpieces. So many on it are, in my opinion, his greatest works. Yet, we never hear so many of the, if any, on the radio. This songs is among my top 5 favorite songs, just another stroke of genius. Rest In Peace
Noticed what a good friend Mike is to Tom. Makes your heart feel warm to see the caring when he pats his back like great job on an emotional song during or after a hard time in his life!
I noticed this too! He went right to Tom and rubbed his hand on his shoulder. Touched my heart! Thank you Tom, for your music that brought warmth and joy to this world. God Bless you Tom Petty.
This is Tom's addiction song. Very painful to sing, I bet. That's why they seldom play it. I love the tune myself. But yes, I saw Mike give Tom a pat on the back. Brothers till the end!!
@Carol LaMontagne Still devastated - saw some concert video on TV from his last show and there was my husband in the footage right up front- all so happy - then Tom dropped within days - and my Tom did too and is half paralyzed. Sweet & sour as they say in Jamaica
I was surprised at how hard it hit me. I generally think most celebrities are scum, but Tom Petty always seemed like a regular guy, with amazing talent.
The best concert I ever saw, wildflowers at The Jiffy Lube Theater in Virginia. It was like a All-sing group karaoke. Hard to imagine something like that now. RIP
This is the song I've "warn out" the most off of the Wildflowers album. It's another one of those special songs to me that I hold in high regard. Listening with reverence and respect for the piece.
My two favorite songwriters.....though I will say Jackson has had a few not so good ones, TP is more prolific and I can't think of any of his songs that are bad...
You should listen to Jackson Browne's cover of "The Waiting." It's Jackson's tribute to Tom, a beautiful cover of one of Tom Petty's finest and most loved songs!
This is my favorite piece in of music in the last thirty years I regret I never saw it live as many times as I saw them I love you Tom Petty thank you for everything you did for me what a blessing you are and forever will be to this beautiful rock we call mother peace and love to all
This song is so beautiful, a big favorite in my family. Wildflowers was one of the first Tom Petty and the heartbreakers CDs I listened to. I would definitely recommend

Brilliantly said
Sometimes less is more and he understood the assignment
"Most things I worried about never happened anyway" This lyric helps me every day
Yes so true, so strong!
"Life isn't as serious as the mind makes it out to be." -Eckhart Tolle
"Nothing in life is as important as you think it is when you were thinking about it."
I read that he got it from his sister. Magical.
That line is so effin true in life!
It looks like even the crowd, obviously Tom Petty fans don’t know what’s about to be played. One of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard in my life! Very happy to have found it! Thanks for posting it!
I absolutely love this song. It's one of my favorites from Tom Petty.
I'm so tired of being tired
Sure as the night will follow day
Most things I worry about
Never happen anyway
one of the best lyrics ever...
Totally agree. Beautiful song with fantastic lyrics... "He was drunk and I was sick..."
I could not agree more. great tune, great record, and a legend of a man with the perfect band.
One of the best lyrics ever written
It is, but if most things you worry about never happen, shouldn't we worry about everything, every worst case scenario, if that will never happen if you worry about it?
Wonderful enlightened lyrics. Rest in Peace Mr. Tom.
He has the audience completely mesmerized. Amazing.
He never left . We still have his masterpieces to sing out loud in the car ❤️
Never mind us. His family must miss him terribly. RIP our dear Tom.
i agree,........saw him several times,.........he was a master of his craft,...no one like him.
My whole life, there was always a Tom Petty song. When he died, I couldn't believe there wouldn't be any more.
RIP.

Miss you Tom, more than words can say.
I miss him so much. Three years on it still stings. He was such a creative visionary. Nobody could do what he did. Such a great lyricist and musician.
It will always sting. But. . . .
He is with Christ now.
One of the most beautiful intros ever written. It's perfection.
On the studio cut there's that wonderful flute sounding instrument, give it a listen it's way back in the mix.
Five years ago today, Oct. 2, 2017 the rock world lost the one and only Tom Petty. His music and videos will live on and on for us to enjoy.
Not just the rock world. The whole world. R.I.P. Mr Petty. You are missed more than you know.
Tom Petty lives on through his art❤
honestly, I don't understand how anyone could give this a thumbs down.... this is one beautiful masterpiece from the masters of American music. God Bless TP and THB
This has always been my favorite song. I have no idea why, it just moves in a way that I can't explain.
You aren't alone, it just grabs your heart & soul and doesn't let go. Much like alot of his music from 1993-1999, his darker days when divorce, heroin, and depression ruled his life. He didn't like playing the music live, but did on a few occasions like this one.
My favorite as well
Something haunting about this song…
I feel the same. Such a tearjerker for me
Is it abnormal to listen to this song on repeat for 3 hours? This song never gets tired for me.
This whole album is a masterpiece. Crawling Back to You still remains one of my favorite songs of all time.
It's in my top 3 of theirs. I am a huge fan of this album.
song from WIldflowers

This. Is. A. Masterpiece. Period. 🎩🎸💔
One of their most underrated songs in my opinion
totally concur!
My favorite of his for sure!!
No doubt..........
Absolutely!!
Yes Ma'am
can't fathom why he rarely played it live. maybe because it's so damn intimate. gets all the way through to me and i don't even know if I could tell you why.
I suppose the more you play it, the more it loses its value...
It was an allusion to his addiction apparently so his reluctance to play it would be understandable.
My favorite of Tom’s ❤
when my mom was pregnant my dad left her and she had to raise me all on her own. she told me about how she danced to this song with me as a baby in her arms in her small flat. listening to this song gives me chills every time.
Bittersweet story.
2024. Still brilliant.
RIP. Unforgettable.

So good its sickening...one of the greatest poets there is
Beautiful man💋
It's almost unbearably hard to cope with his passing, I seen him live exactly four months before he passed and he played this, it was beautiful 💔

Music transcedns life. I hear your pain but he lives on in the music you both loved. My fondest condolences.
I seriously cry, everytime I hear this..
A fabulous song, beautifully performed. I cannot understand why Tom does not play it more often, it's up there with his very best
Agree 100%. One of my top 4 or 5 Petty songs of all time. Maybe 2 or 3....
sometimes I wake up, and before I even open my eyes, im singing, crawling back to you. rip Jenn.
one of the many underrated underplayed songs of his

Songs about his heroin addiction
This is Tom's addiction song. Very painful to sing, I bet. That's why they seldom play it. I love the tune myself. But yes, I saw Mike give Tom a pat on the back.

Love that! Such a good friend!! Looks like he said something too! So heartwarming! It is 2022 and still miss him so!

Like so many of his songs, this makes me cry. What an incredible songwriting. Speaks to me.

It's a crime you never hear this on the radio. It's been one of my top 3-4 Petty songs for as long as I can remember.

I feel this is probably one of TPs best songs....the lyrics are something unlike anything else I have heard.....hope to hear it live this tour!
Agree with you, this song, captivated me when I first heard it and still does. Hauntingly beautiful yet sorrowful.

I agree wholeheartedly!

It's another one of those special songs to me that I hold in high regard. Listening with reverence and respect for the piece.
Crawling Back to You is my favorite Tom Petty/Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers song.
Tom Petty is like Jackson Browne to me, neither has really written a bad song and I can listen to them all day as background music.
My two favorite songwriters.....though I will say Jackson has had a few not so good ones, TP is more prolific and I can't think of any of his songs that are bad...

Voice was strong to the end. Shout to Mike C! Love you both
Never tire of listening to TP. Saw him twice; once at 24 while living in Germany, and once in Philly at 43.
You are so loved and so missed. Thank you for the music.
Thanks for this song. Thank you for everything.
Another outstanding song from WIldflowers. This one should have gotten some air play with its pop sound.
Wildflowers in it's entirety is under rated. Petty has always done it his way. Love this song. So does my little honeybee
Brilliant. God I miss him.
You will be so very missed. One the first to really hit home! 🎼" most things I worry about never happen anyway"🌿💙
Still brings a tear...😢
I miss him even more than I thought I would.
You don't know what you had until you miss it.........
