My name is Bre. I took two years of small engine repair at the local college. When I left school, I fell into a wonderful job at a local small engine shop where I worked the counter for a couple years. In 2010 my husband and I opened up our own small engine shop in central Arkansas where I am able to work alongside my family and best friends. I was a diesel mechanic for many years.. After I retired I went to work for a family dairy farm.. As the mechanic. The firm probably had at least thirty or forty different two stroke motors.. Running all kinds of small equipment. One thing the owner did a long time ago... Was to buy aviation gas... He thought it was well worth the money.. Just because of the problems you are describing.. I thought the machines ran better and faster.. Not many less Pull rope issues.. Of course you cannot run alcohol gas in airplane.

I learned my lesson when Bre had her first video on the expensive premix gas. Took a craftsman weed eater that would not work and stored for several years. I put new plug and I mixed my own gas and been running ever since. Chickanic is the bomb
Never had issues with Aspen, these fuels have their place, like for storage. Always runs great, always starts easy. My dad had a trimmer with Aspen gas left in it for 4 years. Started on the 4th pull.

I personally wonder about VP canned stuff for “storage fuel,” as there’s a place a few miles away that has non-alcoholic fuel - both 92 octane, and (twice as expensive!) 110 leaded race fuel.
Want storage fuel for an emergency *generator.*

I use the pink stuff from the big box stores because it doesn’t have ethanol and I don’t use it frequently enough to avoid stale gas. It doesn’t appear to do any damage if you’re able to fix any issues by switching to oil/gas to fix any problems. It’s mostly a trade off for people like myself.
@@TheFreedom4you I have used both Tru Fuel and VP. I think Tru Fuel is a bit better as my stuff runs better on it. It's possible that doing a gas/oil mix on my own is better but, as I mentioned, it would go stale since I don't use it all the time.
@@corvettetexan You can buy ethanol free gas at a few stations, add stabil to E10, or keep it in a sealed container away from sunlight. I mix my own fuel and I only run through maybe a gallon or two a year. I don't have any problems using pump gas with no stabilizer in a sealed can that sits in my garage.
I just buy non ethanol gas for small engines.
I run tru fuel 50:1 never had an issue with any of my echo products. And run the 4 stroke in my mower,snow blower and gennys no problems. Its the only way to get non ethanol fuel by me. Pricey but no headaches for years.
Used canned for years maintaining properties 1 day a week. Never had a problem. Once I started burning though them, switched back to mixing. Never would have guessed it was why backpack blower seemed to run better as it aged... Interesting... Thank you!

I'll back you up on this one Bre, 100%. I commented on a previous video of yours too concerning the canned pre-mix. I have been a certified OPE technician for 30 years, and I can't count the number of Stihl units that have come into my shop that won't even start with this crappy fuel in them. Get rid of the pink garbage (or whatever else they might be using in there), replace it with the good stuff and voila, vroom vroom, Bob's your uncle. Spot on! And if the manufacturer of the canned pre-mix doesn't like you criticizing their product, then I believe the onus is on THEM to make a better product!

@@sethwheeler3531I have been a regular user of VP SEF 50/1 and Echo Red Armor 2 cycle oil mixed with Ethanol free fuel and have trouble free performance. I don't profess to be an expert, just my experience. Some of my saws , trimmers and blowers are 30+ yo and still serve me without fail. Best Wishes!

😂 I'm glad you got the fuel distributor's attention! All they have to do to get you off their back is to make some fuel that actually burns.
All you have to do is go but gas from the gas station and make your own mix instead of spending $10 a gallon for that crap which I have never bought or used in my life and never will.
And that does NOT have ethanol in it.

@@MFKR696 funny thing is there is not a problem to fix ,, the problem is idiots not knowing they need to adjust their carburetor to compensate for the slower burning higher octane fuel ,,i've been dealing with this problem for a decade ever since canned fuel came out ,,she is trying to convince people there's a problem and passing off partially true unproven information ,,the fact of the matter is , there is nothing wrong with canned fuel ,, just a few things the manufacturer will not tell you ,, #1 is what i already stated ,,it burns different ,, #2 is piece of shit worn out equipment does not like canned fuel ,and manufacturers of canned fuel need to know this
Great video. Last time I started to buy a gallon of pre mixed fuel at Lowes and Home Depot the price was $25.00 a gallon. Where I live gas is now going at about $3.25 a gallon. Pre mixed fuel is ridiculously over priced, not real tough to mix your own.
i use vp canned fuel mostly for storage over winter. Burn the tank off in spring and mix my own until storage time.
Canned fuel is advertised as being able to be stored 2-3 years with no issues.
One complaint with your analysis is the you should use ethanol free fuel. I expect it will be slightly more than $3.25/gal but yes it is less expensive.

Premixed fuel in Sweden is about $15 a gallon. ( just doing some math as well we of course don't use gallons or $ )
While from a tap it would be $10 for gas.

You got me onto the Red Armor, and I run it across the board. I use the canned pre-mixed for all my 50:1 engines, and I mix it at 32:1 with 87 octane Sinclair for my ancient Lawn-Boy which now starts on the first pull.
I ALWAYS mix my own using pure gas (no ethanol) with the oil!
That's the BEST way to do it!
Where do you find pure gas now a days?
The local farmer’s coop has a dedicated pump. The OnCue quick shop also carries it
@@joeblow5154Premium fuel typically doesn't have ethanol added (at least in Canada anyway) its only 87 and 89 that it's added to. 91 is ethanol free.

I sent my spouse after some Red Armor. It's been working in my equipment flawlessly for years. She was trying to save some money and brought me Tru-Fuel. The stuff stinks and all of my equipment is running like crap. I put Red Armor back in and wow what a difference. Never again.
First time watching your videos. I believe you solved the problem I've had with my weed wacker for quite a while. It does the same thing as the blower; revs up but then the *RPM* drops off even though the throttle is pulled all the way.

adjust your carburetor ,, if you are using canned fuel it needs the mixture adjusted to compensate for the higher octane slower burning canned fuel
@wildcoyote34, bullshite! You obviously don’t know anything about octane. Octane has zero effect on air/fuel ratio. Now compared to E10, there’s a slight change, but it’s minimal. Higher octane could allow the timing to be advanced a skosh, but it’s certainly not required. The compression on these engines don’t require high octane, but adding oil does lower octane and fuel that sits loses octane. Given that the big sell on the canned fuel is storage, that’s likely the reason it’s high octane, to allow for an octane drop while the fuel is sitting.
@@donrichter3523 i know plenty about octane ,, having been building boosted engines for almost 30 years ,and also repairing small engines ,,, higher octane fuel in a chainsaw causes it to run rich because the fuel burns slower ,,the canned fuel burns slower than gasoline and it causes exactly what was happening with that blower ,,in a 2 stroke you can't change the timing ,, you adjust the fuel slightly ,, turning in the high speed screw effectively changes the AFR slightly to compensate for the fuel ,,i've done it to thousands of 2 stroke engines over the last decade ,,,there's also multiple other benefits to using canned fuel ,, you never have to worry about getting crap out of a dirty fuel can ,,it'll never have water in it either ,,,I got a laugh out of watching her pull and pull and pull on that worn out stihl chainsaw ,, i went out to my shed and picked up my husqvarna 455 rancher ,, primed it , pushed the compression release ,, pulled 2 times it fired and the 3rd pull it was running ,,that saw has not been ran since last october ,, 11 months ,, it would never have started if it had gasoline in it because gasoline turns to varnish ,, synthetic fuel does not
@@wildcoyote34 "i know plenty about octane" High octane fuel doesn't always burn slower. Some actually burn faster in order to get across a larger diameter piston bore quickly.
Please explain how higher octane, slow burning canned fuel causes an engine to run rich? You basically said it twice so I would hope that know how it works. But from where I'm sitting there is the same amount to fuel and air in the engine as there would be as if you were using gasoline. So I don't see how it can be richer.
Now if you had said that canned fuel had a stoichiometric ratio of 16 or 17:1 I could see how that could make it rich. But that was not your claim. In fact, you claimed that high octane fuel in general would cause this rich condition. Wouldn't that mean, according to you, that the hundreds of millions of times that people put premium gas in their carbureted cars that didn't call for it, they were running rich? It's odd that I never heard anyone say not to do that because it will make your car run rich and you will get worse MPG.
Also the manufacturer is claiming that it is a direct replacement for gas so the stoichiometric ratio would have to be the same or very close to gasoline. I have some Truefuel and it doesn't say anything about needing to adjust the carb on the can. Are you aware of anything on their packaging or website? If there is not and , according to you, this needs to be done to make the equipment run correctly, it's a HUGE oversight. And alot of equipment requires a special screwdriver to adjust the carb. Are you saying that the consumer has to go out and buy a screwdriver so they can use this fuel or any high octane fuel because it burn slower and therefore, richer?
I know there is a lot so if it's too much please focus on explaining how fuel burning slower makes the Air Fuel ratio richer.

@@ToddKingI couldn't help but notice a couple of points he mentioned that you seem to either be glossing over or simply didn't catch.
He specifically used the word *_effectively_* when mentioning AFR. He also mentioned that the synthetic fuel burns slower.
If your engine is tuned to run on pump gas, for example, which burns at a particular rate, the engine will (barring other problems) run as intended. Let's say that a given cylinder volume and compression ratio is going to burn one milliliter of fuel per cycle. So your carb is delivering that amount because that's optimal for that engine, given its setup. The same quantity of a fuel that burns _faster_ (alcohol, nitro, etc.) will be completely burnt away sooner than the standard fuel. At peak efficiency, a cylinder should be given as much fuel as it can completely burn in a cycle. If the fuel burns off faster, there is time left in the cycle for more combustion, which won't happen unless the amount of fuel to the cylinder is increased. This, *_EFFECTIVELY_* will cause a lean condition. The remedy for a lean condition is to increase fuel supply to the cylinder.
On the same token, a fuel that burns slower may not burn off completely by the end of a cycle. Of course, as the knowledgeable individual you seem to be, you know that exhausting unburnt fuel is a sign of a rich condition - more fuel than the engine can burn. If you have a slower burning fuel in a setup for faster-burning fuel, the same rich condition can easily be achieved. The remedy for a rich condition is to reduce the fuel supply to the cylinder.
So, dude isn't wrong. I think you're just missing the point he's trying to make about it. Either that, or (hope not) you're some kind of know-it-all keyboard warrior who's just feeling a bit combative and trying to look superior. I'm gonna err on the side of caution for now and believe you simply misunderstood what he was getting at.
it says something that the canned fuel company is showing the videos to their advertising department instead of their quality control department.
They now have a statement on their website which basically implies that if it doesn't run well in your engine it is because of previous fouling from regular gas. Nice! The marketing person who thought of that nonsense probably got a trip to the Caribbean out of it. Oh I miss Sales where I got to say stuff like that.

Wow. This makes so much sense. I run my eskimo ice auger a few weeks in the winter and was using this product, with the same results. I thought the 15 year old carb was having issues. I will have to try some non ethanol pump gas a try.

Went back to mixing my own fuel after seeing one of your previous fuel videos. Since then I've had no issues.
Great video, as a general mechanic I miss out on a a lot of the small engine intricacies. For all my gas ( Here in OZ we call it petrol ) engines I use pump gas plus fuel stabiliser, works a treat and never fill a 2 stroke with someone else's mix.

What kind of fuel do you use? What octane? I just had my Stihl serviced because it wouldn’t start. It probably only had 2 to 3 hours on the saw. They said someone messed with the carburetor, however it has never been out of my possession. They replaced the carburetor under warranty. They said to use the canned fuel. I bought a can and was shocked at the price. Although it was about $10 cheaper than Stihl fuel. I have been using a chainsaw for probably 60 years and this was the first, and last can of premixed fuel I will buy. Great video.

My neighbor was complaining about how it was hard to start her brush cutter so I handed her a can of my mix and told her the gas was probably bad. She told me it worked great and so I asked her what ratio she was using and she told me she bought it in a can at the store. I told her not to use that crap because it doesn't burn well. I only know this because every time I have used it in my equipment it makes it run like crap. Good to see someone with a voice calling this crap out.

I use 40:1 in ALL my saw! Ran 32:1 before because i had snowmobile mix on hand and no issues also
I only use Stihl premium (silver bottle) and do it by the instructions which is 50:1. Never had a fuel issue.
Oh, and only ethanol free gas with Sta-bil, in case I don't use it for a while.

I have a cheap Poulan saw that's been a bear to start since brand new. It may need valves adjusted as the compression is huge to overcome. I do use mid-grade ethanol fuel because ethanol-free fuels are no longer available in my area. I do use Echo fuel oil mixed with my Echo 210 weedeater that's about 15 yrs old and always starts on the 2nd or 3rd pull. Now it needs new fuel lines and the tank grommet replaced. Yes, I cringe when I see Bre working on chainsaws with her flip-flops. I can't work without my safety boots because I've conditioned myself to be scared without them on, but Bre is a lot more experienced than me.

Hi Bre! I have learned so much from your videos! Watching your one from a year ago about bar oil leaks, I noticed you poured the bar oil in the traditional method, "Tip her up and let it rip". But I may be able to help[ with a neat trick about pouring oil (or antifreeze) from a plastic bottle. A full bottle will do the glug, glug of burping out the liquid and often some misses the target. Instead of holding the bottle in the "normal" or intuitive position turn it around backwards. When you pour with the opening back near the webbing of your thumb and index finger air easily gets into the jug which allows the fluid to flow smoothly. Aim carefully and you will have much less spillage. Readers, this does NOT apply to gas cans. Love your program Bre!

On a similar topic, my friend is a farmer, they have a bulk gasoline tank filled on farm by their supplier once or twice a year. Since the removal of leaded gasoline, he has noticed that after about 3 months, the gasoline used in his vehicles makes them run poorly, motorbikes wont even start. Fresh fuel is always best, preferably no ethanol.
I love this video, I am a small engine mechanic in north Louisiana. I have customers that use premixed fuels, when they bring me their equipment because its not running right or just not running. First thing I do is pour out their fuel, I am a Red Armor fan, I have proved to myself its the best oil you can buy, its pricey though. My experience in this issue I will pour their fuel out in front of them and fill their unit with my premix Red Armor, and most of the time I don't make any money from that customer, but they will return or refer me someone. I am a very limited shop and will not work on just anything simply because its not worth taking your money, and next year you bring it back to me and be upset because it doesn't run right. Mostly most of my customers problems are fuel issues and spark arrestor screens in exhaust and Mud Dobber nests in the exhaust in a lot of Stihl blowers. I haven't watched all your videos but what I have seen, you are a awesome mechanic, keep the videos going. Thanks Mike

Same here. I’ve had the exact same gas can for a couple decades. I have been using Walmart Hypertech 2-stroke oil and decent 91 octane gasoline. If it is late in the season, I add the recommended amount of Sea Foam to stabilize the gas. So far, no problems with my 50:1 ratio tools, even Stihl, after several years. So far this season, I haven’t needed to change any spark plugs. I’m definitely not going to touch that pink stuff.
Why is everyone having trouble with the new gas cans? They're so simple to use.
I've avoided fuel related issues by just stabilizing all my small engine gasoline. It takes forever to go through a gallon of mixed gas. I know there would be issues if I didn't stabilize it.
@@karlrovey I finally found a plastic gas can branded Briggs & Stratton which appears to have a reasonable finger trigger on the spout. I just got it, so I haven’t put fuel in it yet.
The other stupid new gas can I had required pressing down on the lip of the fuel inlet of the equipment in question to press a trigger. It was nearly unavoidable to get fuel all over the place trying to fill my hedge clipper and backpack blower due to their slanted inlets. I’m glad I hung on to my old gas can which is the go-to for my 50:1 fuel for now.
@@wtmayhew I haven't had issues with the Midwest cans (aside from an older one with a broken spout that was a victim of deffered replacement). I know everyone hates them.
Anytime you want to make something bad or worse, easiest way is to get government involved.
If it's not broke, it will be. if it's a bad situation, make it worse.

I bought 2 cans of this fuel early this summer to try in my saw. The first can seemed fine and the saw ran normally, however when I got to the second can (same brand, purchased at the same time) the saw was difficult to start and wouldn't rev properly. I finally emptied the tank and replaced the fuel with 100% gas/oil mix and the saw ran fine again. That was enough evidence for me.

I know NOTHING about small engines (or any engines for that matter). However I'm learning what NOT to do by watching your channel. I've never used canned fuel, but now I know to stay away from it. :)
It's simple. 1 bottle of 2 cycle oil Per gallon of unleaded gas, mixed into the same gas container. No premixed box store stuff. .. make me it yourself

I've actually never tried the cans stuff because I found it very easy to make my own. however you should not just say it's simple one bottle to 1 gallon of gasoline, as you can buy larger quantities than a standard small size bottle. I did find a handy measurement device though that tells you how many fluid ounces to put in based on how many gallons of gas, relative to the ratio you need for your device.

I remember using premix during my two cycle boating days and how bad it always was. The only feature canned gas has going is convenience. I buy premium gas at a high volume gas station to avoid ethanol as much as possible (always pump a gallon or two in my car first to clear gas lines) and use Stihl synthetic oil. My two cycle chain saw, blower and trimmer runs like new all year long.
Let me post a theory, if I may, about one possible cause of the issue. In opening the latest, and bad, can, I noticed a little play in te plastic top with the screw lid. This is a plastic unit which is pressed into the can, as opposed to having an all metal can with full sealing in its construction. Perhaps long-term exposure to air or water vapor over time and handling causes the fuel to go bad. (And for those of you in the fuel company, reading this, please tell the "Suits" that saving 0.17 cents per can by doing it the cheap way is no saving if the product goes rancid before use and your customers abandon you. Like I am doing).
First off, if you use a good mix such as from Stihl it has Stabil in it. A fuel stabilizer is very important for storage. Secondly, I RELIGIOUSLY put SeaFoam in my mixed fuel in the spring to clean up the fuel system of anything that might have collected in it. Thirdly, STAY AWAY from any ethanol based fuels as it will ruin the hoses and gaskets in the fuel system-they are not made to use that garbage!
I'm thinking it's freshness related too.... By the time it's made, canned, shipped, sits on the shelf, etc... it's proly 6months old when it's cracked open, and I doubt they are using any extra stabil or oil since those cost more than the gas itself. Old gas, plus minimal additives.... but the profit margin is awesome!
@@tshackelton I think the theory behind these fuels is that they are mostly those compounds which are more stable and less prone to degradation over time. I have had marvelous success with them, till I suddenly didn't, which is indicative of either batch defect or sample defect. Noting the design of the can, it is quite possible that some cans are less well sealed against long term water and oxygen incursion than others. Hence, the spotty nature of the problem. You can get people lined up on both sides of the line swearing it is great or it is junk. It may just depend on storage time and can integrity.

Great demo on what NOT to do... A video on the "correct" fuel to use would be really nice, as well as a "good enough" alternate or two. I use E10 auto gas here in SoCal in my 4-stroke engines and they seem to run OK on it. I have a Tecumseh mower from 1980 that starts on the first pull every time. I also have a vertical shaft B&S engine on a Sears edger (a gift) that needs a squirt of ether every time too, unless perhaps the tank is FULL. Magic touch on that would be nice. I wonder if it might be the fuel...
Really? lol Its a simple matter. Buy NON-ETHANOL fuel for small engines. Use high quality 2 stroke oil, mix as that brand states (sometimes they recommend 50:1 when a unit usually says 40:1 ; like amsoil). Ethanol solidifies over time and plugs up carbs. Mixed fuel lasts less than 6 months to begin with; now your in a can with unknown age. I buy my ethanol free fuel whereever I can but usually at the marina.
Try adding Lucas to your gas. Helps a lot.

watch your videos back in the spring. took your advice, ordered all new carbs for my stihl weedeaters and chain saw. took them apart, put back together and used red armour fuel mix. they all run perfect now. went to stihl dealer and told them they could kiss my xxx! i was taking my stuff in constantly for carb problems. stopped using their canned fuel they said it would void my warrenty. i laughed and said what warrenty, and they pulled my service sheets. said i must be doing something wrong. i said yes, put your canned fuel in it, walked out not been back.... thanks so much.... saving me hundreds of dollars.
When I bought my Husqvarna chainsaw they had a promotion of buying 3 of their small cans of fuel to extend the warranty time period. I went for it and the chainsaw and my string trimmer ran fine with it. But with the cost of that fuel I am now using pump gas and the Husqvarna 2 cycle oil instead.
This is exactly why I buy Non Oxy 91 out of a dedicated pump and mix Red Armor oil. Never had these problems.
I live on the far East End of Long Island N.Y. and I haven't found anywhere to buy non Ethanol Fuel. Cheapest Regular gas here is $3.49 a gallon.

Same reason I don't run any equipment with ethanol based fuels. That crap goes sour after a month or two and gums up the whole works. Thanks for sharing, I would have never known!

For the love of G! I brought that canned stuff because I seldom use my chain saw. Went to use it with the canned stuff would not start. Used my small electric saw.

I have 3 chainsaws & 30 yrs. experience in use, newest is an MS271. Cut ONE medium tree with that one, put away 6 months, now won't start. Guess which fuel i put in it thinking i was making ownership/storage simple. Now i know to purge that junk and go with some good gas!

Geez 2 years ago I pulled my Lady Stil out from under the bench and opened the case just to try it after 11 years... MAYBE 6 pulls and it was running. Only used it once since I moved to the SW from the NE to back drop an almost dead tree that was leaning over my garage. Cleaned it, greased it, checked the chain & teeth then filled the bar oil & fuel an stuck it back in it's case. Fuel is in a 2 gal can with 2 stroke Sta-Bil & 100:1 synthetic oil. MS250-C Easy2Start.... still on original spark plug but 3rd air filter. If it can't breathe, it ain't gonna run.
I have seized three saw engines using tru fuel . I have also had high idle problems using it. A lot of the time however it runs good. I use the 40:1 in everything.
I had to laugh at the prices for the canned fuel, and the old timers told me that stuff was crap. So I have never bought it, and now I glad I saved my money. I have enough problems in life, and I don't need to add to it with my small engines. If you see a problem over and over again, it isn't you going crazy, and it isn't a conspiracy theory. Sometimes the best truths are the hardest to take, and some people can't handle it, especially when it threatens their profit margins.
I found it interesting that the blower went to four stroking as if rich, I use the term bogging out for lean conditions. We check every customers fuel, we find just about everything in the tank, pretty fuel, stinky rotten ethanol fuel, water, dirt and of course no dye at all in the gas which always begs the question, do you want us to put a new top end on your saw? BTW the 025 typically has the old set screw tank vent which will usually seep some fuel when its tilted over.
My grandfather used to own a small saw shop in SW Washington state many many years ago. He had lost his leg on Omaha Beach in WW2 and the saw shop was one if the ways he supported his family. He was also a logger for many many years. I dont have a whole lot left of what was his other than a few old tools. My step father passed roughly 2 years ago now and i just got his saws. I have his favorite Johnsered and a newer Husqvarna that he purchased a couple years before he passed. Over the years we made a few hundred cords of wood together. It is nice seeing someone who maintains these machines. All of the saws growing up including my old 044 and 032 went to the shop every year for their tune-up. My 32 is long gone now but i still have my 44 and it is fully rebuilt and ready to run. I have enjoyed the videos. Please keep making them. I cannot cut wood anymore due to my military injuries but i will never get rid of my saws. I also have 2 old Poulan saws but they are cheap saws and we wont talk about them.

My mother went and purchased a new Husq chain saw this weekend from a local saw shop. They told her if she didn’t buy their fuel for the saw it will void the 3 year warning. SMH.
I only use high quality ethanol-free fuel with high quality 2-cycle oil I don't use that stuff and it can to me it's a big rip-off and waste of money glad you expose these frauds
My wife couldn't get her Stihl trimmer to start (I also pulled it a few times). She has always used non-ethanol pump gas with Stihl Platinum oil. I can't tell you how many times Iv'e cleaned the spark arrestor on it🤬
LSS I emptied her tank, cleaned the spark plug, pulled with the spark plug out about 10 times, grabbed my MotoMix, filled it, primed it and it started on the 3rd pull. Funny, It reved better too
Many people in this area swear on the "light pink canned fuel sold at the big box stores" even though I haven't used it I surely did learn something today
The Sthil dealer told me to use for winter storage as it wont gell up.Very expensive, and my 700 series blower didn't like it, the MS 251 didn't either...switched back to 93 octane real fuel and they both run great!

And as you say and shown the petrol to oil mix is a part of the failures.
IV got one in now....needs a full fuel system rebuild/replacement......it's was red fuel......
It's was red diesel!!!!!!!
And the same costume complained after using a newly serviced machine...... stopped working.
He had mixed red power steering fluid in....
Said it looked red so was ok....
Sometimes I feel guilty charging him.....but IV to remember I'm not the one at fault.
This is why in all of my lawn equipment I use non-ethanol premium gas.
I want to Buy Made in America Products but have had Plenty of issues with a Blower and Weed Trimmer over the years. Saying Disappointed, an Understatement.
I have always mixed my own fuel for this reason. I also run my equipment at the end of every season. I’ve never had an issue.
I’ve been struggling with a chain saw that bogs and is hard to start, tried everything. This is exactly what it is doing on canned gas.
To my ear it sounded like the chainsaws were running rougher at idle and you can definitely hear the bog down full throttle.
Companies spend a lot of money promoting their products and if there's a large profit margin for the store that sell it. Unless customer stop buying the product.
From what I have learned is that companies can keep on promoting their products but eventually catches up to them, especially in this modern day of the internet.
I was worked for a company call mobility electronics. They hired a new head engineer who didn't have experience with the type of electronics we manufactured. I tried to warn the president of the company what was going to happen. I was let go. What I warned about happened and the company lost so much market share that it was bought out at least what littles was left of it.
I've also had a similar problem with using different 2 cycle fuel oils. Using the red Echo oil caused the same issue and I had to re-adjust carbs to compensate. I suggest you find a good combination and stick with it.
I’ve been using Motomix in all my 2 strokes for about 10 years now. Never any issues other than the cost.

A long time ago when I had purchased a new saw, the dealer recommended I burn premium fuel. This was before fuel with ethanol, his reason was the tank is located next to the engine block and because of the heat the fuel actually boils. So start with a fuel that has higher octane. He also recommended mixing my gas in the correct oil ratio. He said if the oil is 50:1 then mix 50:1, if it 40:1 then mix 40:1. I use Amsoil 100:1 two cycle oil and have been mixing in that ratio since I bought that saw. FYI, I checked the compression about a year ago and it is 150 psig. Now you no longer can get the same premium fuel so I use 91 non oxgenated. I dismantled the saw at that time for an other issue, and inspected the jug and piston. There were minor scratches on both but both were in serviceable condition. I reassembled the saw and it still is in service today.
I use the same oil fuel ratio on all my 2 cycle equipment and also in my 4 cycle engines to winterize them.

Canned fuel is great for storage. I run a carb thru my stuff in winter because it doesn't gel up. It's a different AFR however and my machines don't run as well unless re-tuned/jetted for it. Use it for it's purpose and its fine, but it's not a replacement for regular fuel.
What could possibly go wrong here, hmmmm, bare feet, flip flops and trying to start chain saw.. OHSA freaking out!
I have never used the caned fuels but all my small equipment is in need of new carb because of the crappy pump gas in washington state. Finding non-alcohol gas here is nearly impossible.

Usually the moment I see something that says "they" don't want you to know this or they hate, etc. etc. I scroll on because it is some bogus ad. I knew it would not be the case with you. I did not realize that this was such an issue. You'd think at the price they charge and it being engineered, your get a clean fuel with built in Stabil. Obviously not.
My brother in law is always buying those cans in 40 or 50 to 1. I’m old fashioned and mix my own, premium non-ethanol fuel mixed at 32:1 with Klotz Techniplate. It’s not cheap oil, but it reminds me of the motocross tracks of my youth. Bad for 32:1 in these newer engines? I just do it that way because of easy math, 4oz to a gallon.
Another painfuel story. Neighbor called very concerned that a new $ears lawn mower was blowing white smoke. The story was it worked when it was dropped off and ran fine until it was out of gas. They added can-fuel and the engine started smoking. I said let's just replace the gas with No Ethanol gas that had on hand. I used a HF gas/siphon pump, which cleared it out fast. With the No E gas, 2 pulls, the engine started and smoke disappeared quickly.
He assured me that he bought the 4 cycle canned-fuel. I reminded him to check the oil level every gas fill up (just in case)

I very seldom use the premix from the box stores. I call it "problem solver" gas. It's a solvent -- you can smell the xylene in it. Run a quart through to clean the engine, then resume ordinary pump gas with any good quality 2-stroke oil. I've had the same old Stihl 034AV Super for 28 years.
This is crazy. I thought everybody bought non ethanol high grade fuel and mix their own I did not know they bought fuel from the store to run in a two-stroke. I didn't even know there was such a thing.

There are basically two kinds of companies.. ones that take criticism as fix the problem and those that woudl rather attack or defame the critic. If they are smart they ally with you and use you and people like you with logic documented methods as independent off-site testing. Testing in lab machines is a good start, but true calibartion comes ofr IRL experience. Same goes with the equipment guys. Happens to us in IT.. whether it works for the end user, customer is what it's about and that is all when it comes to sales. Of course if you get home users that don't know better to replace it every other year they are probably good with that too. I really appreciate your approach.. and learning.. mostly watching gives guys like me the confidence to try.. Thank you

I'm so glad you tested your own fuel. I'm sharing this with a 😝 friend because today I told him not to use canned meat or canned fuel unless you don't want to actually work. That crap is horrible. (That's right, Vienna Sausages. I'm talking about you - at least the fuel claims to have 40:1 odds that it's real.)
