I love to see normal people fumble with the politics, I’m a polysci major so most of this stuff is just my regular ass lingo, so to see that most of this stuff goes over peoples heads is legitimately 1. Hilarious 2. Enlightening
I sided with the union initially, got the communism thing real early, decided to dial it back, and then had the game call me a centrist an hour later. 10/10, best political sim I've ever played. Also, to kinda spout off a bit, I think a common mistake a lot of people make with DE's internal politics is taking characters at their word, when none of them are perfect expressions of their systems. They're all unreliable narrators in their own way. The Deserter is a perfect example: he's not a mouthpiece for the devs, he's not justifying himself, he's an old man trapped in the past, so blinded by hate that he can't see there's no place for the world he envisions any more. He waited so long to kill a royalist that he'd built an intense parasocial relationship with that he died in his sleep without the Deserter even noticing. You're not *meant* to understand what he's on about, except that he's reciting propaganda by rote. He's the end stage of an extremist political system, a violent nobody trapped on a metaphorical, ideological and literal island, to whom the small gulf between his territory and the rest of the world is an impassable abyss. Of course he makes no goddamn sense.
@@Biscotum lol, i despised the union and the game told me that i was a centrist to later tell me i was a communist, at the end i think i made the game confused and i ended up a moralist (i blame the comfy blue pants)t, some of the dialogue is kinda exagerated in political believes in some part to show the absurdism that some people can go to defend their believes
mind you the term was made by Marx, who was a bourgeois himself (Rotchild) that unlike capitalists.. he didnt pay his own workers at all, dude did 10 times worse at everything he criticized others of
By the way, regarding the last clip, the game only rerolls when the roll modifiers change, hence why he kept failing the 97% roll. He should've changed his clothes, upgraded his character stats, done drugs, checked out the other dialogue options in order to get a new roll, or some combination of those, which almost definitely would have succeeded because of how high the percentage chance was. Edit: Oops, I got the explanation slightly wrong. The game rerolls whenever you do any game actions, not just those that affect modifiers, but because the game locks you into the dialogue once it starts the ways I mentioned are the only ways to force a reroll without restarting the entire dialogue sequence from the beginning.
Actually i am pretty certain the check is an automatic failure because he didn't cover himself in the phasmid pheromones, so regardless of how high the chances are, you fail the check if you don't do that quest line properly

About the three snake eyes in a row: I heard the game has some kind of seed system where in crucial checks it actually fixes the outcome after first try so people can't savescum and recognizes repetitive loads. It's not for nearly all checks, just a few red checks. He would've had to reset the seed by loading an earlier save and doing something before starting the encounter like talk to Kim
Woolie and Reggie's reaction to keeping the character in Justin Trudeau mode will forever be my favorite DE moment, next to PatStaresAt's reactions during the Tribunal.
Despite the awkwardness of some of the streamers discovering actual communist philosophy (and tripping over the pronunciation of "bourgeoisie"), before you get the urge to cringe, please consider this -- if not for this game, who knows if they would have encountered these ideas -- let alone engaged with them -- at all? While the story clearly gains a lot of value if you're already familiar with the theory, it's still remarkable to see a game that presents these ideas at all (largely unadulterated and only barely exaggerated, warts and all) get the attention that it does. Some people will bounce off it and get the wrong idea (or double down on wrong ideas they already had), and that's sad. But I think it's worth it just to see young and/or polticially naiive adults who are receptive to the ideas -- or at least previously unaware of them -- encounter them in such a highly visible (well, for this type of game), highly regarded video game and perhaps listen to what the game is saying about them. Maybe they're not ready for it now, but in a few years more of navigating the messed-up politics of our world, who knows? The Fortnite guy at the end exemplified it best. The lightbulb may only have flickered, but it finally came on, however briefly. A little bit of progress was made. (But probably too fast for the Moralists. Gotta dial it down a bit.)
@@Helda_Ilweranta I'm not jealous of them, I'm from the west and they disgust all of us that are actually globally aware. Most people in the west grapple with the guilt of their privilege in their teenage or early twenties, but I find that if it doesn't happen around that age, they tend to stay elitist and generally ignorant forever. I hope the best for all of us, but based on my experiences in my friend groups when I was that age, political beliefs are generational and only are broken if the child embodies something that the family politics reject, i.e a gay kid in a fundamentalist household will abandon fundamentalist thinking in order to survive, but that doesn't always happen, sometimes children take to the privilege and don't think twice about any of it for the rest of their lives.

Also, keep in mind Woolie got an actual back injury from laughing too hard at this game.
"Thanks." "You're welcome." Was so fucking good.
My favourite are the ones who's egos are very evidently bruised. They really wanted to go through the game like an action hero, and the game is only too happy to reassert the fact that they are not an action hero.
"This better not be political."

It's beyond parody. The skull of fans like this have a 255 mm thick bone. More lead then flesh too prolly.
Modern cyberpunk is absolutely not political, except as a demonstration of recuperation and Mark Fisher's thesis.
@mikewaters2126 it seems to me it's a scale. Only political dorks (or people vaguely familiar with Nietzsche/modern philosophy) like myself and yourself would be familiar with the concepts presented in Fisher's thesis. For the everyman there is a lot to be gained in Pondsmith's cyberpunk. And just as I think it's hogwash to say the shadow puppet display of power put on by corporations today is real- I think the world of cyberpunk pondsmoth presents could have an out. I reject the state of stasis you'd put the series in. And if you're talking about the genre itself- come on now.
@@mikewaters2126
All art is inherently political.
Modern Cyberpunk is absolutely Political, Mr Fisher literally wrote a book called 'Capitalist Realism'.
And the concept of 'Corperate Colonialism' is objectively political as is the Cyberpunk Genre as a whole.
@@NgaMarsters And modern cyberpunk is the best possible demonstration of capitalist realism you could ever ask for. It's only accidentally political.

9:24 to elaborate, as a teenager Bricky kicked a mexican child in a mall in Santa Ana (i think that's the spelling) in the face then ran away. Homie passed the Physical Instrument check and then also the Savoire Faire to run away. Funnily enough he recently played the demo for a game called hollywood animal and the devs addd him as an easter egg character, but they trolled him since in game you can blackmail him with a pedophilia accusation and the code to unlock him is something like "15 is the best".

All the kuno fails are really funny to me. Because I LOADED my detective with buffs to do the spining kick on Measure head. Soon as as that was done, I RUSHED to see Cuno cause I knew he was also a phys check. 29:34 "turn from the ruin. Turn and go forward. Do it for the for the working class." is one of my absolute favourite DE quotes for some reason. Thanks for putting it in. TalesOfLumin made the right choice here, despite being completely blind to the depth of this game and politics in general. A true moralist.
Is the person not being sarcastic? I read it as sarcasm
I love to see normal people fumble with the politics, I’m a polysci major so most of this stuff is just my regular ass lingo, so to see that most of this stuff goes over peoples heads is legitimately 1. Hilarious 2. Enlightening
My experience was quite similar. All the funnier when someone who has never heard of "communism" before admits that the game reeled her in
I sided with the union initially, got the communism thing real early, decided to dial it back, and then had the game call me a centrist an hour later.

Dying because I tried to grab a tie off of a ceiling fan and missed was the perfect way for me to be introduced to DE
Ooh that makes sense!

I'm so sad we will never get a sequel to this masterpiece. Wish I could wipe my memory and replay,
We will, but in a different setting. After all, they promised: "UN JOUR JE SERAI DE RETOUR PRÈS DE TOI"
I'm just jealous of westeners that can afford to be apolitical...
@@Helda_Ilweranta I'm Black. I literally am political just continuing to breathe. Believe me I don't have that privilege.
