      Or... Non-Peacocks hate Peacocks ability to throw away money - either proving the Peacocks point, or proving the superiority of the non-Peacock in being able to garner attention without throwing away money.
      Part of the paradox of the Hublot peacock phenomenon is that only a watch nerd would know what a Hublot costs, and how much it should probably cost instead.
      Or in other words, only watch nerds recognize it as a peacock at all - the great irony is that both the watch nerd and the general public is going to be more impressed by a similarly priced Rolex or Omega than they are by the Hublot... It's almost a Schroedinger's Peacock situation.

    I really appreciate your no BS approach to watches. Your content is always well documented, researched and you let your audience make their own decision. As a collector of $5k to $10k watches I tend to value brand history, design and movement quality in this particular order. Hence owning a Speedy, 300 Pro Diver NTD, Portuguese, Luminor GMT, Tag Monza and Targa F Fangio limited edition, Baume & M Hampton, Cartier Pasha, Squale 1521. I never paid retail for any of these pieces, negotiating hard with ADs when buying new or buying quality second hand (always meeting the owner in person beforehand). The research and “hunt” aspect of the entire process makes the day of the purchase feel even more special. Thank you for guiding watch lovers like me make better decision. I have my sights on a Polaris chrono. Will wait a couple of month to buy secondhand: as much as I like the brand story, the Polaris design and the movement, JLC price positioning is indeed nonsense.

    I disagree with your assessment of Cartier regarding them being a fashion brand. They are more of a jewelry company, and I believe that they are legitimate watch company. They have created some of the most iconic pieces of jewelry and watches. It's worth noting that Louis Cartier was a watch maker.

    • @Mike.thiswatchthatwatch
      @Mike.thiswatchthatwatch  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      Fair enough. For me the starting point for jewellery and fashion is the same. Aesthetics first. Quality second. The technical aspect to watchmaking is something neither inherently have a skill at. Some can though - Cartier, Bulgari sometimes, Hermes on occasion. I do however believe you need to be more "vigilant" when buying from a non watchmaker 😀

      @Mike.thiswatchthatwatch I see your point in a way. For me, when I think of fashion, I think of things that are here today, gone tomorrow. Cartier is not a fashion brand! It’s a jewelry brand like Chopard or Bulgari and therefore it gets more appreciation than a fashion brand like Louis Vuitton. In addition to that Cartier invented the wrist watch. So I think it is too easy to label it as a fashion brand. But great video! I like your perspectives!

EDC is a garmin Instinct solar as it does what I want and the Casio version, just doesnt come close......and i really wanted the new version. Next watch.......Garmin Epix, when they release the new one in 2024. Rugged, does what I want, and well priced. I would love another 'luxury' watch, but i will never wear that Longiness Hydroconquest, Omega or Rolex. But actually....I'll buy the Marathon GSAR or Victorinox pro diver. Uhh, I think your missing some other Casio's that aren't just the usual G-Shocks, calculators, databank, or squares. I mean, Bill Gates is well known for wearing his Casio "Duro" Dive watch for example...It's a basic, no frills analog quartz based movement that is housed in a fairly well built, not to mention durable watch that is a real deal dive watch. Okay, perhaps it is not quite "G-Shock "durable, but you also don't get that G-Shock appearance either. It appearance also is not another Rolex Submariner knock off (though you can tell it's design is based on function and is akin to a Submariner). It's very affordable watch for the masses, and as it is a mass market affordable watch, it's likely never going to be worth anything to a collector. So saying that, if somehow they don't have a G-Shock, calculator, databank, or square for you, it's still highly likely they have something else altogether, and it may actually have a little more clout behind it then one realizes behind what ever Casio they pick up, and it will very likely be well built. I know you said too many module lines, but I think they truly do have too many product lines altogether, never mind the modules.

    Big fan of JLc but I feel every single watch in its current catalogue was designed with the watch enthusiast in mind, one who understands and appreciates the brand’s heritage. That’s a very small community and one that’s also very much aware of other options available in the market with similar if not only slightly less brand caché and significantly lower price tag. They don’t have options that appeal to the masses and are seen as an elite if not elitist brand more so than other more expensive brands and unfortunately that isn’t a compliment in this day and age.

    Nico wants to appeal to the everyman, which is why he calls Casio "God Tier" and he enjoys shaming the CEO of Rolex. But at the end of the day, he buys and sells elite watches and has an expensive lifestyle. There is a necessary cult of personality thing going on there. It's the politics of dancing. I'm not judging...
    Meanwhile, Casio has no business being called "God Tier" in watch enthusiast conversations, because they are an electronics company first and foremost. Go ahead and look: Has Casio ever made a mechanical watch? That's not what they do. And as far as I'm concerned, an electronics company is unremarkable and exchangeable for any other electronics company, at least when it comes to race-to-the-bottom competition. So watch enthusiasts praise the F91W but secretly despise what is lacking.
