Here's a story about petroleum jelly. Years ago I went trekking through the Himalayas, during a phase in my life when everything had to be "natural" skin care. My main protection against the high altitude wind was a balm that included all natural ingredients - it was meant to be something like a natural Vaseline alternative. Well, by the second half of the trek, my cheeks and nose were totally wind burnt, and this balm I was using did absolutely nothing to help me - the wind burn just got worse and worse. We finally reached a small town, and I found the local chemist which sold limited products, but they sold good old Vaseline, and Vaseline Intensive Care lotion (the one in the yellow bottle). I slathered the lotion all over my face, topped it off with pure Vaseline, and finally found some relief. I actually quite like natural skincare products and even used to work in the industry 20 years ago - but I'm not devoted to natural skincare in a cultish way. That trip to the Himalayas taught me that petroleum jelly is damn good stuff, and you're better off using the product that does the job, whether it's natural or not.

I’ve been watching your videos and I am blown away! Thank you for all that you do, I am so so grateful for your insights, tips and knowledge. I feel excited to return the stuff I just bought from Sephora, and I’m going to invest in products that will save me money and be more beneficial for my skin! This particular video on Vaseline/petroleum jelly DEFINITELY changed my mind about it. Like a lot of other people, I believed the lies that it was super harmful to our bodies and could cause cancer! It upsets me that there is so much misinformation out there about skincare that will lead us astray from good products! Tallis In Wonderland Hello:) you’re basically right! It’s a rewards program, there are 3 tiers. Each dollar you spend there equals one point (until you start leveling up, then they give you more of a point for each dollar, you can use your points to exchange them for trial sized products they offer). To become a Rouge means you’ve spent at least $1,000 in a year at Sephora 😬 It goes: Beauty Insider, VIB, then Rouge.

Thanks so much for this video. I am always hearing lately that Vaseline is bad for your skin. I appreciate how you explain everything. All I can think of right now is my grandma.... she was so funny. She told me she could not live without Pepto Bismol for her stomach and Vaseline for her skin... lol. She lived to 102 years old, so I have no right to laugh at her! She also always looked younger than her age. I miss her.... she was my best friend.

I'm 20 and have been using Vaseline on my lips and cheek as a sleeping mask since at least 8 years. I've never got acne BECAUSE of it like all other skincare channels on TH-cam say that you get. I just don't get why it's so hated, whenever I use it I always wake up with glowing, soft skin. otherwise I ALWAYS wake up with a dry, itchy face. The only other substitute that even comes close is almond kernel/avocado/argan facial oil.
tl:dr - Vaseline is great for nighttime moisturizing.
