      Research research research! Dig around for what others have done, and if you don’t find anything, look at similar size and shape lights on more commonly modified cars.
      Rarely is any of this easy and straight forward, and very few people are interested in helping others figure it out.

    Hi, this is Jim from Easy Performance Products, LLC
    We really appreciate your candid review of our taillight panels from our Datsun 240Z taillight kit. You did a nice job of touching on some of the highlights of our taillight kits. We would like to add some additional information that might resolve some confusion or questions that the review may leave.
    The price of ~$300 is for LED panels for both sides of the vehicle (i.e. the customer gets 4 LED panels for the ~$300).
    Here at Easy Performance Products, we strive to develop LED taillight kits that provided the greatest measure of safety for the customer’s cars. For individuals who have spent a lot of money in restorations and customization of their vehicle, the last thing they want is for someone to crash into the back of their car because they didn’t notice the stop lights. To meet this goal, we make our LED panels to be the brightest in the market. Something you already commented on. We also develop our kits to illuminate as much, if not all, of the area available in the taillight lens. This often includes the non-illuminated reflector sections. To extend this safety goal, we want our LED panels to achieve the greatest change in contrast from brake lights Off to brake lights On. While the LEDs are bright when they are On, we want the Red taillight lenses to be dark as possible with the lights Off. This can be achieved by choosing a LED panel color that darkens the Red lens. The complementary color of Red is Green. So, we purposely use Green LED panels rather than Red to achieve a darker Red lens than would be achieved with a Red or White color panels. This really makes a difference when the taillights are observed on a bright sunny day with the sun shining off the back of the vehicle. The brake lights are even more noticeable.
    Thanks again for the honest review and if there are any questions we can answer, please let us know.

    I am just looking to supplement the existing bulbs within the OEM housing, so thank you for also including the link for the strips. I am pretty sure that for my annual safety inspections, "modifications", such as LED replacements past just an insert-able LED bulb are a no go. I may need to wire it in with a switch so that it can be shut off and just used for the "show field". I was initially just thinking the LED would light up instantly while the incandescent would be delayed by a second giving a wink and blink effect, but simple sequencing would be a nice added touch. Nice job on the comparison, but I would have liked to see that 240Z with the lights installed and in use! Those multiple sequencing options were very enticing. I might still contact that manufacturer for pricing on custom work...but it's more about the ease of me being able to cut and customize the product for my needs with the strips vs the cost of a custom 1 off. Thanks for sharing the info.

    You got the point, however, it depends. Like me, i dont want to speed like $600 but a serious tailight or headlight mod. While the $300 will replace for a completely taillight, the led strip is just make the tailight have a led line which look more modern. So i think 2 of those have different purpose....

    I I was thinking about trying to build a insert panel like that, using reflective tape covering the PCB, I really have a thing for the black reflective tape, however red and/or white/silver would probably be the better choice, possibly black for new model clear red lenses, I'm thinking 2010 avenger tail lights, convert the reverse section to sequential turn signals, keeping the reverse function, use 3watt LEDs for backup, about 5-6 of then with 30° lenses, cool white , maybe use IR LEDs for the backup camera, having basically the same function as the inserts you are showing, also I thought about building a 3rd. Brake light, with similar function, maybe do the nightrider thing, use 1watt LEDs with 90° or 120° lense with diffuser, maybe more smaller LEDs, with reflective tape on the PCB, I really like building things myself,

    What is your opinion on making tail lights with the WS2815 led strips? I mean every single led there is programmable, i guess you can get close results to these led patterns, am I right or wrong?

    • @flyryde
      @flyryde  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If it was dark outside 24/7, they’d be a pretty smart way to go. However, real life has sunshine, and reflection, and all sorts of things that make a set of tail lights on a car, a completely different beast than inside a computer.
      My stance is, don’t REPLACE any function of the existing lights with addressable, but rather, add the addressable LED function that can activate on command when the time is right. Does that make sense?

    • @k0lendasolutions705

  • @keith38able
    @keith38able 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    some of us simply can't afford those prices, I tend to find a happy medium if possible. It's when you can and you still chose the crap product, then its valid to say wtf-really. Price doesn't always equal quality either. Always do a thorough study of all you buy-don't just throw $. And also depends what your going for, LED's and such are sweet but for me that extra $ would go to something powertrain or chassis related and then I have 2 instead of one "checked of the list" build wise. Just saying. Keep those videos coming have learned some things from them that helped me do my 350z lights, thank you for the info and congrats on the channel success.

    • @flyryde

      I can put a bulb kit together, but something vehicle specific like sequential parts really does need a decent demand to make producing and marketing it worth the effort for a business. For a random Mazda 3 guy however, the investment of time in research and development makes waaaay more sense. Especially when you group up a few buddies with the same car to fund your efforts as early adopters 👌

    • @flyryde

      I wouldn’t say affordable aren’t worth it. I think affordable just gets more attention and love, because it’s so easy to buy a set, make a dumb video that tricks people into thinking you know what you’re talking about, thus pushing more sales of the affordable product.
      This plays well into my point about not being able to buy awesome vehicle specific Sequential LED boards. They might be better, but the info about them is so scarce, and the sales are so low, they basically stand no chance at becoming a trend.
