Good video! I have a few recommendations. Always place your shims on top of your screws, just so the shim won’t crack and fall when fastening I work for a well known door manufacturer, and I am certified door installer, most door manufacturers require to use either a elastomeric or polyurethane sealant over silicone, there are so many different wood species and composites that silicone will not adhere to. Keep in mind when placing screws behind the weatherstrip , you are fastening thru the thinnest part of the jamb. Door manufacturers recommend fastening thru The thickest part of the jamb, ( could be problematic for warranty purposes ) understand doing so would mean the installer would need to take extra steps in covering the screw holes and paint to match. Never ever only fasten through the brick mould. Always use the long screws supplied for the hinges and secure through the jamb. A well sealed and secured door will last for many years.
@@venegasenmerida6307 when you set your long fastening screws thru the door frame and hinges don’t fully tighten. Make sure when using your wood or composite shims place them above/ top of your screws. Don’t screw thru the shims. Hope that helps

You want to be either pulling the old nails on trim through from the back, or cutting with a grinder. Knocking them back through the face usually causes breakout or at best even more nail holes. Nice job 👍🏻
Thanks for your rant about spray foam. I was going to consider using it but after hearing your complaints about it I'll probably go with insulation or something else.
So at 18:32, when putting the Protecto Wrap on (sounds kinda like a super hero?) the corner, would it make sense to put the corner patch on first so the longer piece of PW would shed water over the patch instead of hitting at the seam? Not sure I explained that right...
Very good. To save yourself the trouble of having to fill in a ton of nail holes, pull the nails out from the back with a pair of pliers, using leverage. Less to worry about that way.
And...at about 27:44, you adjust the reveal in the Lowe right corner. Can you explain how you did that? It looks like the shims are between the lower hinge and the door but I don’t get how that would close one gap without opening the opposite gap.
Just watched two front door vids. First was Lowes produced and second was yours. I feel better about tomorrow's job after seeing much more careful detail in both videography and explanation in this production. The sill tape and silicone caulking I liked much better than the tedious sill tray assembly promoted by Lowes. All your close up's with the shimming and centering the door are extremely helpful. Which one of you guys handles the edits, or do you do them together? Seamless job. Can't beat that prefinished fiberglass door for a very classy upgrade!
Man I appreciate this video, your explanation was more than great, I know you're a man who knows what you have to do, but why do people always wear safety glasses and gloves to handle fiberglass and you just handle it like nothing??? Was it the amount you used or the way you used it?? Thanks for another lesson!
There wasn’t too much insulation so I wasn’t too careful. When I insulate a room or even use a few full pieces I always at least wear a mask. Thanks for watching! Hope the video helps out!

Thank's ! I have this Job coming up soon on my house , And with storm door .
Great job! Very informative video...I think I’ll try to tackle myself. I’m sure I’ll have to watch a few times!
Hey, Robert! Happy to hear you enjoyed the video. I hope it helps out!
Awesome job!!! Great explanations and humor!! Good job
Thank you for sharing! Great tips and installation insight. Well done!
Thanks. Now I can't wait to get home and see if either one of my caulk guns has a built in tip cutter like that.
very well explained thank you I'm changing my rear outside door tommorrow
Great job on the video, nice and thorough too.
And...at about 27:44, you adjust the reveal in the Lowe right corner. Can you explain how you did that? It looks like the shims are between the lower hinge and the door but I don’t get how that would close one gap without opening the opposite gap.
Done nice and relaxed...Pretty much any issue can be felled if you remain calm and work the issue/problem.
Very clear presentation. I learned a lot. Thank you! Subscribed and liked.
Excellent job! Always enjoyed your videos. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you!
Wow! You did amazing job 😯👌❤️
Really well done
Became a fan today.
Thanks, I can now replace my door after the FBI kicked down my door! :)
Also thanks for the video the best I've seen personally.
Yes a saws all would be best I have done quite a few replacement doors an I cut all nails for removing trim and jams also cut jams in half for ez remove but only if your not planning to reuse . Good job
All doors are not that easy, but you did well covering the basics. I always bring a shop vac especially on hardwood and a thick drop cloth if a tool is dropped
Great job explaining everything! 💯
