      Get rid of everything that’s laying on the countertop in your kitchen too much cluttered not needed that’s why you have drawers or cabinets it just looks messy and unclean
      Those round bulbs were in style back in the 70s so ugly remind me of my mom’s house growing up

      I have a very small kitchen in a rental apartment. I love to have some appliances on display, like my coffeemachine, I made a cozy coffeecorner on an Ikea Ivar closet. You can invest in, or safe for, nice looking appliances that also can elevate your kitchen. Just try not to have unnecessary clutter on your countertop. And even in my small kitchen, I have art. It's all about balance. Choose your objects carefully.

    1:27 Upgrade the countertop essentials like spoon rest, soap dispensers and countertop appliances.
    3:02 Choose a honed finish for countertop.
    3:53 Have three types of lighting: integrated, task and mood lighting.
    5:24 Have two types of cabinets: long cabinets that go from backsplash to ceiling, and countertop cabinets that act as an appliance garage.
    7:30 Backsplash: get a slab backsplash
    8:51 Bring in decorative details into the kitchen
    9:46 You can go for bold design elements in the kitchen to make a statement.

Do people know what those things cost? And good luck finding this stuff on sales and clearance on a small or tight budget. Yes you are right. The bones of these kitchens where expensive to begin with.

    FYI The mats in front of stove and sink are for foot fatigue. That’s why people buy these. They make a difference for foot pain. I’d love to have something that looks better but they won’t handle the issues most people have with hardwood or tile floors.

    • @andreaambrose8857
      @andreaambrose8857 ปีที่แล้ว +21

      I recommend the runners and getting good house shoes. I have adidas slippers that are sooo cushiony - you can prevent foot fatigue all the time. Game changer! Of course you can get something more fashionable than my sporty looking ones. I personally don’t have runners but I think they look nicer than two mats also. Regardless - try having good house shoes- your feet and back will thank you

I work for an appliance company and the panels are heavy and may cause the doors to fall, damaging the hinges. Not to mention the humidity from the dishwasher damaging the panel. I have seen it. Just some helpful information to consider. Work with your designer and cabinet maker if you are using one. Love the paneled fridge tho'.

    10:18 The biggest problem with choosing bold finishes and colors is the cost of replacing them once the love affair with them dies. I love a soft sage green, for instance, and I absolutely LOVED the vid you made where you redesigned your family room with this gorgeous green paint. But, if I were to choose the color for the kitchen cabinets and one day get tired of the color, the work or cost involved with repainting or changing them would be astronomical.

    I enjoyed this video so much. I started renovating my kitchen (along with my entire home) in Feb. I got beautiful new countertops which I selected from a granite warehouse. My fabricator suggested the slab splash and it is beautiful. I also bought all new appliances and made sure I bought a stove with the knows above the oven so that my slab splash gets all of the attention. Today, I got an estimate for refacing my cabinets and I requested extending them to the top of the ceiling.

    I'm surprised you didn't mention changing cabinet pulls. I recently changed mine and was shocked at the difference it made in modernizing my kitchen! I was equally shocked at how little it cost to make the change. :)

    So many gorgeous kitchens. I liked your tip for the counter top. I was wondering if you go with a tiled backsplash should the tiles be shiny or matte?

    The runner and lamp in the kitchen is an American vibe. Don't see it in Australia.
    I imagine a runner in the kitchen will always be stained and a tripping hazard.
    Bold coloured kitchens are great in designer magazines which doesn't translate in a modest space. It would make a smaller kitchen too hectic.

    Awesome video! Love!!! Just a quick renovation question: I have seen that open shelving is out or near out. Will the backsplash stone shelf (usually small like 3") be out soon? or is it timeless in your opinion? Thanks for your great content!!! I appreciate it.

    Thank you Kristen. Would you also suggest the rug idea in the bathroom? We have 1 at each sink and another at the shower. Thanks.

    • @hissonshinegirl
      @hissonshinegirl ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, too many rugs scattered draws the eye to see clutter. The shower one can be laid down when ever used. But a runner along one counter with 2 sinks looks clean and attractive. 2 rugs breaks up the clean long line that out lines the cabinet.

    *Honed Stone and Panel Ready Appliances* . I'm a matte finish gal. Honed stone is gorgeous and forgiving. I would rather have a smaller foot-print kitchen and spend money on panel-ready appliances. The sight lines are much more appealing.

    Great vlog as always Kristen. We renovated our kitchen in n 2018. Did a lot of the things you have suggested. Went for slab backsplash. So practical and easy to maintain. Handless kitchen and a matt porcelain worktop which doesn’t show any marks and is really contemporary in a thin profile. You call it panel ready but in the UK we call
    It integrated appliances. These look
    So much better and give that sleek minimal look. We mixed 3 different units for upper , lower and island and they really compliment each other and make the space look more interesting.

      Perhaps you could let them know that you are very interested in getting a seamless backsplash for your kitchen. It is an extra large slab that will be used as a full slab backsplash.

    I am renovating 2 kitchens: in my primary home and in a family lake cabin. This video was so timely for me. I am in the planning process for the primary home kitchen right now, so you’ve given me lots to think about. I appreciate how you’ve covered, not just the large expensive items, but also showed ways to upgrade the kitchen without spending a lot of money. I would also love to see a video on various kitchen storage/organization options as well.

    Runners are great and I use them in different parts of the house, but my kitchen is asymmetrical so with its very distinct shape, a runner would not be practical. So I bought two smaller rugs that look great in front of my sink and one in front of my stove. I think a round rug may work even better, but for now this actually works for me....

    I personally, don't like back splashes of any kind. I usually "decorate" that wall area with art and rattan style hot pads and small bread baskets, sometimes I change out the baskets for a lovely piece of art. However, I did find your video helpful, I especially agree that, upper cabinets must go all the way up to the ceiling, if the budget allows.

    Any advice on how to warm up a stark white kitchen, I’m in the middle of renovations and the cabinets with gold hardware were recently installed last week, I’m having a hard time picking a countertop and backsplash to warm up the space , the cabinets were painted in Chantilly white . I tried to pick out a white and grey countertop love it but not sure what to do with the backsplash. ❤

    Question around floor runners...what if the space in your kitchen is a square...should you choose a rug/runner that takes up the majority of the space?

    • @RachelRhodesbud
      @RachelRhodesbud 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Runners are for "hallway" areas in a kitchen created by an island, or in a galley-type kitchen. In a square or U-shaped kitchen the runner idea doesn't work.

    • @AuraLifewithAsh
      @AuraLifewithAsh 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@RachelRhodesbud which is why I’m asking do you just buy a regular rug or forgo one all together? Assuming a full sized rug doesn’t make sense because of how messy kitchen are typically.

    Currently demolishing my kitchen! I have a gally kitchen, took off the uppers and wow opened it up with my 8' ceiling. Thinking about black lower cabinets with either black countertops or a white countertop, marble look, hones can't decide. Painting the walls and ceiling white. Thinking about leaving out upper cabinets and doing the long, tall cabinet garage on the ends. What do you think?

    Thank you for this video. I will be renovating my kitchen this winter however, I disagree with the paneled dishwasher.
