Me too, including any space-saving tips! I have 6 cabinet and 4 drawers. My pantry is a tall particle board Rubbermaid storage shelf with doors, and it's where my refrigerator goes because the space is too small for my new refrigerator which I have in the dining room (which is basically still a part of the kitchen, but 5 feet to the left). My kitchen is a galley kitchen, so there's no room for any kind of an island. I have nowhere to hang anything either, as all available was space is cabinets.
I had to laugh at "putting dishes and glasses above the dishwasher." I tried that and found... I'm too short. I can't reach to put them away when the dishwasher is open. 🤣
Yep, that is where my 6'4" husband put them when we set up the kitchen... I can't reach it. He can. It is now his job to unload the dishwasher..... ever since he insisted the go there and I am way too short. LOL
I evaluated the location of my kitchen items and decided for the most part they were pretty good. The one thing I have to disagree with Cas is what goes above the dishwasher. I can stack and carry plates and bowls to put them away, but glasses require more individual attention. Above the dishwasher is the most efficient place for glasses in my opinion.
The bonus of organizing this way is that it's intuitive for anyone else who may occasionally cook or prepare things in your kitchen! When my mom, sisters, or friends are over I usually hear "Where is your... ope, found it," in the first cabinet/drawer they open.
I put a stainless steel hook with double sided tape right side (I’m right handed) on oven door. When there is a tee towel then there can be oven mitts.
Get a small pack of magnetic hooks and stick them on the side of the fridge, super easy access for oven mitts and it doesn't take up extra space plus if you don't want the oven mitts to quickly become stained and discolored from food, get the ones that are half fabric on top and half silicone on the bottom, so if you accidentally dip a part of it in a dish you can just rinse it off.
My kitchen is so small I couldn't "run across it" if I wanted to! LOL But this does make complete sense. Unfortunately, I HAVE to use very high shelves with a step stool :( but of course I do put the least used stuff there! The secret for us "small kitchen girls" is to have only what we truly need so we can still keep it pretty and tidy :) We can do it ladies!! 💗 💙 💛
Mine too, moved recently and this kitchen is ridiculously small with almost no cupboard space, so I've bought old drawer units and hutches etc, tarted them up so they look great and modern in the living room. I've made one whole wall in the living room, right next to the kitchen, with all drawers & units. Majority of my kitchen stuff is now in my living room. Works for me. Pain in the bum, but better than nothing, and I have SO MUCH cabinet and drawer space now.
We stayed in a short term rental recently and they had labels on all the kitchen drawers and cabinets. It looked a bit gash, but it certainly helped to find things.
My son hasn’t lived here in 7 years (outside a stint in 2020) and he still gets thrown by me moving things from where they were as a kid! Luckily it’s a tongue in cheek reaction but it would really throw him for a curve to do this! And I would need to leave the post it’s for a while. Luckily I already zoned the kitchen when we renovated without realizing that’s what I did.
My only critique would be that I would want tea towels by the sink and not the stove. Also, many people might use the pasta strainer once a week but my hubby and I might only use it a few times a year. So top shelf makes sense!
Makes sense! Doing this this weekend! That strainer😂😂 Just a tip....spices should not go near a heat source as you may get pests in your spices plus possibly moisture. So i have a deep drawer next to oven.had them above the stove where heat and moisture crawls in.and ive had to throw out spices soooo often until i read that heat is the death of spices!
Yup! I was going to mention that heat and moisture are the worst for spices (think of a big pot of water boiling for pasta) so you have to balance that with convenience.
I JUST decluttered my Kitchen YESTERDAY. Very timely. I kind of naturally did this, and when my kids were little, I moved the dishes , silverware and even some unbreakable glassware to pull-out drawers under the counter so that they could learn to set the table, wash dishes, and put away dishes, in a height that as waist-level for them.
Girl! You are so amazing! I have lived in my home for almost 25 years, and I just watched your video on organizing your kitchen. I consider myself to be a really good organizer, but you have me a new idea! I just switched out two different cabinets in my kitchen and I’m so excited on how much better it is going to work for me!!! Thank you so very much!!!💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
So funny, her messy bedroom is my version of pretty neat! She is so lucky to have you organize her bedroom AND kitchen! Her kitchen and home are so beautiful! Loved seeing your team, Cas! Can you imagine coming home from vacation to find a newly organized kitchen? I’m a magnet hoarder. I can’t help it 😂. Too many notes. I need to stop.
My biggest tip in the kitchen is only using 1-2 sizes of tupperware. Ideally, if you can stack 2 smaller ones on top of the larger one. This means using rectangular shape vs round. It is easier to stack and uses all the space in the fridge. Also, it makes matching the tops and bottoms super quick!
Id love to see you give some organizing ideas fore a small kitchen as well, maybe 10 cupboards and no drawers. I'd love some ideas for organization but a modern look, I don't want to see alot of things. I have followed your rules for zoning so I have that down, I just don't have a place for the things i use regularly, like small appliances. Help!!
Your comment prompted me to count…mine’s only 7 plus 3 drawers! 😂I’ve always felt as though I had a ton of space! 🤗 I have a separate pantry area though which is essentially where I keep 90% of everything I own…even tools (no garage, loft or basement).
Just a thought: how many cleaning supplies are under your sink? I had a TON of duplicates and once I got rid of those and sorted stuff into stackable bins I had enough space for the toaster, and a couple other small appliances. The appliances I don't use DAILY (!) I store either on a shelf in the garage, or my under-the-stairs coat closet (I added wrap-around-the corner shelves in there). I was forced to think 'outside the box' but it all works great.
Yes, we have a 1938 Galley kitchen, no pantry or nearby area for adding a cabinet or anything like that. So we have 2 out of our 5 cupboards used for food. No space for anything extra but somehow we make it work 😃
10 cupboards would be the height of luxury for me! 😂 I have 1 double, 2 single and a narrow single cupboard. One section of 3 drawers. I WISH I could find a way to organise that with no pantry.
The process is not different. You need to declutter more, or add shelving to your cabinets and put things on top so you have more room. I for sure have less than 10 and I have room to spare.
I primarily drink water or water based beverages like tea and coffee so my cups and glasses are in a narrow cupboard by the sink! They fit well in this space and not many others do. They r close to the water. My kitchen is from the very early 1900’s. It basically works well. I have always used work zones. Glad you reinforced that concept. At 83, I am re evaluating the placement of most used items. It is of primary concern now and has changed over time. I no longer cook in as large of quantities. My large stockpots are seldom used now. I no longer need a multitude of 9x 13”pans at one time. I need to re prioritize them and the space they consume. Thanks for inspiring me to re examine my use of space. At my age I could not deal with remodeling my kitchen but I can re-prioritize how I use it. This might be a good subject for an additional video.
Most clutter makes me twitchy, but I love my fridge "decorations." This includes souvenir magnets, helpful info (air fryer cheat sheet), and funny cartoons that make me laugh.
My 2 yr old, 2nd grandson plays with our alphabet & fish magnets 🧲... the same ones his 13 yr old cousin used, & his Dad/my 3 kids used! I love the fact all my kids & grandkids are using a piece of history! Sure, they were put away in a jar for several years, but I kept them for the next generation, along with the hot wheels, Tonka Trucks, & other toys!
@@leahrowe847 Yep We are the generation that regarded everything as precious. I still wear my grandmother's nightgown. I love that we looked after everything
After watching this i cant wait to redo my kitchen!! Most kitchens dont have near enough drawers!! So I have post it notes all over my kitchen. My daughter came over last night and went in the kitchen and said "Are you having trouble remembering things?" 😂😂😂
My mom was/is self-proclaimed lazy. Her kitchen was always properly zoned. I think she learned it from her mom. I learned it from her (my mom). Now my adult son zones his kitchen using the same principles.
i am a BIG magnet on fridge girly!!! ive rearranged the magnets on the fridge since childhood!!! Its my job! 😇😇 I do realize its a fine line between fun and clutter
I spent ages doing this when I got my new kitchen then I lived with it a month and made adjustments. It’s about efficiency, being efficient with your movements and having things to hand as much as it’s possible. During Covid I had a really good kitchen clear out and declutter. I had over 70 mugs!! WTH who needs 70 mugs!! I reorganised the Tupperware cupboard and I’m pleased to say it’s still neat and tidy as everything has its proper place. I redid it last summer and it was a fairly quick job. Counting containers and making sure that every lid had a partner and getting rid of the odd ones was oddly satisfying.
I so agree. I have tried to organize my kitchen - actually my home - utilizing "point of use" storage. Basically, just put it where you use it! I have found that this has had to change a few times over the years as kids grew up and moved out (no lunch packing station needed) and as my husband & I retired and are both home and in the kitchen more. I know Krista will love her newly organized kitchen.
I love this! The only thing I'm not sure about is the dishes above the dishwasher. In my house, at least, if the dishes are above the dishwasher, then I cannot get to the cupboard when the dishwasher is open! That means an extra step, as I have to set them on the counter and then put them away after I'm done with the rest of the dishwasher. I think my cupboard is set back a little, though. Perhaps that makes a difference.
Great ideas and I do this even in my tiny galley kitchen. She is so lucky to have all that space for you to work with. I laughed at the drawer with storage containers though……once I know they all have a lid, they come apart and get stacked. That drawer would gave been less than 1/3 filled that way. I keep mine stacked in a plastic shoe box.😂
You are teaching about *”store closest to point of use” that I learned in my equipment class at GSU as a Family & Consumer Sciences major! (aka, Home Economics). I have attempted to pass this along to my girls❤ It seems so common sense, but I know it is NOT🥴 I almost forgot to include this … *”when possible!”
We just got a nice new fridge today. I have decided we do not need magnets on the front, to spoil the look! Instead, we will put them on the side, where they do not clutter up the front.
I just finished resetting my pantry… inspired by you. Got rid of four bags of expired foods, empty containers and repurposed, empty storage containers. Why, why, why did I think I could use them? My pantry looks so good and organized, I keep opening the door to admire it! I vowed not to buy items for recipes that look good, but never use, then expire and throw out. Vicious fantasy cycle. I realize I’m empty nested, don’t entertain, and have dietary restrictions. I have a menu rotation that I like, don’t actually enjoy cooking, so the new redone pantry is just what I need. Key is need vs fantasy! My small kitchen is arranged by point of use method. I joke that I can reach everything without moving my feet! Don’t worry, it is zoned. 😊
Zoning makes so much sense and is very efficient. Love the "container" concept. Moving my plates, bowls and cups above the dishwasher has saved me a lot of time. Using Post-It notes is such a great idea!
I've always been good at putting spices near the stove and dishes near the dishwasher, but you took it a step further and I love it. Zoning the lunch making supplies never occurred to me. And paper products. Etc. Thanks, Cas!
Cass, I found this video so informative that I watched it twice. I am in desperate need of organizing my own kitchen, as well as tackling my mom’s. She just moved into a new house because she’s newly paralyzed, & it’s been a challenge for sure.
So glad to see you posting again! I'm having to relearn organizing skills because of a loved one's memory issues. I'm hoping to learn from your videos. Thank you!
Fully agree with you on most. Only thing I would challenge is dishes by stove instead of above dishwasher. But maybe that’s because I serve myself from the stove instead of setting g the table…
it depends on your own personal challenges. i will use every dish from the dishwasher instead of putting it away if they aren't all right there together, but some people are better at putting things away and would like that cabinet space for their coffee mugs to be right next to the coffee machine.
The directly above the dishwasher is annoying because you have to stretch over the dishwasher front to put the dishes away. I'd ideally put the most used in the next cabinet over and the lesser used or handwash only on the one above the washer.
No matter what size kitchen I lived in the last few years your advice on zoning is the best advice ever ❤❤I also go and help my relatives to zone their kitchens too ❤❤❤thanks kass
Fabulous! Krista trusting you to go into her home while she is on holiday is wonderful and shows how awesome you and Emily are! How excited I'd be to return home to this brilliance!🤍🖤💎
I *do* have fridge magnets despite ladybug tendencies! But I think of them as art. I have cute or pretty or memorable ones that make me happy. Weirdly, I don't use them to stick stuff to the fridge. MAYBE something I need to deal with in a timely manner... because I know it will bug me into dealing with it. And if I didn't have the trivets and oven mitts in the top right, I would burn myself so hard, coffee station is near the sink or water dispenser, and my storage is way too limited to separate my pantry to that degree... but your point stands. Zone for how YOU use your kitchen!
I have a small kitchen so "real estate" is precious! I have WAY to much in my kitchen & there's no where to put what I use constantly 😔 Plus, my stove houses pans and cookies sheets😅😅
The post-its are genius! One of the reasons I have yet to reorganize the kitchen more efficiently is because it throws off my husband so badly when I do shift things around. BUT if I leave the post-it’s for a time that would help his (and my) habit/muscle-memory.
Commenting from my husband's account...Thank you, Cas! I keep putting off working on my kitchen because I'm so overwhelmed just thinking about tackling the clutter! I need to just put my butt in gear and do it! Also, you look fabulous! Love your outfit, and you just radiate energy and positivity. It's infectious!
I love this concept. I heard it from you like 2 years ago, along with the thing with shared spaces between different types of organizers (the visual one “wins” over the one who prefers everything enclosed). I ended reorganizing, installing two open shelves for my 🦋 hubby, I put the things there HE uses the most… and since then it’s easier to put things away. Of course I decluttered first 😂
So true, I've been thinking about putting my toaster in one of the kitchen cupboards because, realistically, it only gets used a couple times a year if that!
If your space is limited, a pan or the oven work especially if it's only twice a year. I have the tiniest of kitchens in a studio. No room for a toaster. I use the broiler when I have toast.
Perfect timing for me. My new kitchen is a few days away from being finished so I am thinking about where to put things when I start to put things back in. I have pull it kidney corner shelves that I was thinking for gadgets but being next to the sink and draining board I am now thinking plates, pasta bowls and the like should go there.
You've inspired me to reorg our kitchen! Definitely could switch the plates location and remove my daughter's colouring from the kitchen all together! Huge project and totally worth it!
My favorite organization for pots and pans is the pot rack that my husband built for me, it's anchored into the ceiling. For me, drinkware belongs next to the fridge; that's where it makes the most sense, always has and always will
If you split the utensils into cooking vs mix/prepare. You put the cooking ones by stove and the others with the mixing bowls etc (in this case the island)
I have been "zoning" for years, even in my whole house and garage. I even have drawer dividers in my fridge door shelves to zone my condiments 😂 It's definitely the way to go, and more people need to know about it! Great video!
I've never been a magnetic on the fridge person! Even when my kids were little! I would throw them out or try to make a family calender area inside the pantry.I think you should of decanted the rice and lentils. Also, most of the other stuff, too. I like my kitchen ultra organized, and I think it looks beautiful!😍
What a huge kitchen with tons of storage place! I wish mine had that many options of where to put stuff. However, if it were my kitchen (after I pinched myself to make sure I wasn't dreaming), I would push the fridge over toward the right and install one of those tall skinny pull out cabinets for storing spices, oils, sauces, vinegars, etc., on the left between the fridge and the cabinet next to the stove. Super convenient, and you can see everything at a glance unlike a deeper cabinet.
Love this, I’ve been watching you so long that I feel like organising like this is second nature now. Gotta say that outfit on you is gorgeous. If you ever quit being a decluttering expert maybe you could have a career as a stylist. ❤
I have some silver magnitic chip clips on the fridge - so nice because I don't have to root through a drawer to find them and they tend to get tangled up anyway. And they blend in since the fridge is silver too! Easy/Lazy access 100%
Beautiful kitchen and beautifully organized. When we bought our house my SIL told me to keep my dishes above the dishwasher. But with me being so short and having a tiny kitchen it didn’t work for me. So sorry to say my dishes are across from the dishwasher….which isn’t even a full step from the dishwasher 😂😂😂
Love love love this video!! It is so nice to see the process in someone's real life kitchen. The way you zoned and placed everything made SO much sense. I don't know how or why people don't all do it this way but I would bet she was able to function in her kitchen 100x better. Thank you for another great video. I really enjoyed it! 💜
What a great video! I wouldn't put my dishes there because with the dishwasher open I feel like it would be hard to reach around the cabinet door and the dishwasher to put things away. But that one over the sink was pretty high. Like you said, no space is perfect. Also I'm a huge fridge decorator haha. It is like the cork board of my middle school heart with kids art, Christmas cards, family pictures etc.
I have my items close to my needs. So coffee cups above my coffee maker, spices above my stove, pots and pans under my cooktop, and utensils in the drawer by my stove and my everyday flatware on top drawer directly under my cabinet of everyday dishes. It helps to do zones. 😊
I'm a magnet on the fridge person, I even have small magnetic holders which are so handy to put receipts in as I am coming inside. But I keep the front uncluttered. It's easier to clean that way.
You are so right about zoning your kitchen. I put a lot of thought into where I put things in my kitchen. For example my kitchen cabinets form a big L shape. The cooking area, refrigerator, sink and dishwasher are located in the corner area of the “L” making a triangle. The dining table is located at the top part of the “L” so basically the furthest point from the cooking area. While I’m cooking I set the table and I’m usually in a hurry. Therefore I want the dishes and eating utensils near the table. I don’t mind a few extra steps to put them away after they come out of the dishwasher because I’m usually not in a hurry unloading the dishwasher. At the same time my glasses and mugs are located above the dishwasher and right next to the sink. (In the cooking triangle area.) That way I can quickly grab milk, juice etc. from the refrigerator or water from the sink. For some people having the dishes & utensils in one place and the glassware in a different area would drive them nuts but this system works for us. Quick access where and when I need it.
I just moved and spent all day yesterday and most of today unpacking and setting up the kitchen. Yikes. I think I zoned fairly well. This is helpful in case I need to move things around.
I also heard that it's a good idea to re-evaluate your kitchen every couple years. So many people load their kitchen when thy move in, then never change it.
I would love to see you redo a small screened in porch. We have a small screened in porch that we share with our kitties who are indoor only. It has a litter box out there too. Sometimes a struggle to make it functional but also comfortable and fun.
My kitchen Reno starts in a few weeks so I will be starting with a blank slate. I have already been thinking about a lot of this stuff you have talked about from watching all your other videos. Thanks this video reassured my thinking of changing my placement of things. I can’t wait to my kitchen done and organized.
I'm saving up for a kitchen reno and Cas has already saved me money because I realised wall cabinets don't work for us so we're having everything in lower drawers (no cabinets) and a couple of open shelves for my visual husband's spices/oils
I would love to see you organize a small kitchen. Mine is maybe 10 cabinets at the most.
Yes please, and I don’t have a pantry. 😊
I have cabinets, but only 3 drawers.

I'm glad I read this before rearranging. I'm short too.

I am the same !!
When she says it has to go I just look over at my pretty and colorful photos and handmade magnets and am like, nope! Not ready for that step yet!
Yep! If it's stuck to the fridge, it's not clutter. It's either important, fun or art.
@@leahrowe847
Yep
We are the generation that regarded everything as precious.
Moving soon so I absolutely need to do this when I'm unpacking!
My mom was/is self-proclaimed lazy. Her kitchen was always properly zoned. I think she learned it from her mom. I learned it from her (my mom). Now my adult son zones his kitchen using the same principles.
This is the reason why you are my FAVORITE TH-camR!🏆🏆🏆
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
i am a BIG magnet on fridge girly!!! ive rearranged the magnets on the fridge since childhood!!!
Same
If you have enough cabinets to dedicate one to “breakfast”, you are not me 😂 Also, hands off my fridge decor, cute crazy lady!
Love your VERY sensible approach to organizing. I also LOVE YOUR HAIR! SO pretty!
Awesome I haven't unpacked for my new house now I know where to put everything ❤❤❤❤
Yay! One less thing you have to worry about! Happy moving!
Definitely a magnet on the fridge person! If I don't see it I can't remember the 'safe' place I put it 😊
Great ideas and I do this even in my tiny galley kitchen. She is so lucky to have all that space for you to work with. I laughed at the drawer with storage containers though……once I know they all have a lid, they come apart and get stacked. That drawer would gave been less than 1/3 filled that way. I keep mine stacked in a plastic shoe box.😂
I love you dearly, Cas. You do not have to stand the way they tell you in youtube-land. Thanks for inspiring us to declutter!
You are teaching about
*”store closest to point of use” that I learned in my equipment class at GSU as a Family & Consumer Sciences major! (aka, Home Economics). I have attempted to pass this along to my girls❤ It seems so common sense, but I know it is NOT🥴
I almost forgot to include this … *”when possible!”
Her kitchen is so beautiful!
Looks amazing!! I'm a magnet on the fridge person😊
This was so awesome 😎👍
No matter what size kitchen I lived in the last few years your advice on zoning is the best advice ever ❤❤I also go and help my relatives to zone their kitchens too ❤❤❤thanks kass
Thanks for saying that - appreciate it! And your relatives are lucky to have you help them with zoning!
I have WAY to much in my kitchen & there's no where to put what I use constantly 😔
Plus, my stove houses pans and cookies sheets😅😅
same here
This popped up just as I was going to put on one of your videos to watch while I clean the kitchen ... great timing! 😆
100%
We used to have tons of magnets on our fridge. I purged a lot of them, and put up just a few pretty ones that make me smile.😊
That is awesome!
The post-its are genius! One of the reasons I have yet to reorganize the kitchen more efficiently is because it throws off my husband so badly when I do shift things around. BUT if I leave the post-it’s for a time that would help his (and my) habit/muscle-memory.
Great job at putting everything in its right place. Now it makes sense.
Love the post-it idea! Great to do if moving into a new house and trying to figure out how to organize it.
I got a new pantry and it freed up my existing kitchen cabinets and this video helped me reorganize the freed up space!
😂OMG!!! Your videos are very useful and hilarious at times! I wish I had a friend like you! 😂😂😂Keep up the great work!
Of course I decluttered first 😂
Kitchen reorganization is so satisfying!
It really is!
Cass, you are such a BABE today 💁🏻♀️💁🏻♀️👏👏👏
You've inspired me to reorg our kitchen! Definitely could switch the plates location and remove my daughter's colouring from the kitchen all together! Huge project and totally worth it!
My favorite organization for pots and pans is the pot rack that my husband built for me, it's anchored into the ceiling.
For me, drinkware belongs next to the fridge; that's where it makes the most sense, always has and always will
I am seriously considering a pot rack. It would place them at a more accessible level.
Love these type of videos when you do them, I hope more lucky people let you do this so we can see more examples, especially of small kitchens.
If you split the utensils into cooking vs mix/prepare. You put the cooking ones by stove and the others with the mixing bowls etc (in this case the island)
I have been "zoning" for years, even in my whole house and garage. I even have drawer dividers in my fridge door shelves to zone my condiments 😂
It's definitely the way to go, and more people need to know about it! Great video!
Thanks! Sounds like you're a true zoning pro! 😊 Love it!
My kitchen was renovated this fall & reorganizing cupboards was more of a chore than I thought it would be.
I just renoed my kitchen, and I’ve been obsessing about where to put stuff. Your video really helped me feel confident!
Krista's a lucky lady! I would have put the toaster in the breakfast cupboard since there was plenty of room, but then, I'm a ladybug.
I agree, but it was just a bit too large! I couldn't close the door properly
I love the snooping success, so great to see your joy in helping ❤
Love this, I’ve been watching you so long that I feel like organising like this is second nature now. Gotta say that outfit on you is gorgeous. If you ever quit being a decluttering expert maybe you could have a career as a stylist. ❤
I love a good magnet on the fridge. Emphasis on GOOD.
I think it makes more sense to have dishes by stove not dishwasher
Agree! Stuff in the dishwasher is going to go to all areas of the kitchen, and you can’t put everything next to the dishwasher.
I have my dishes between the dishwasher and the table. That way, I can easily put them away, and also set the table.
Girl I love your outfit today!!
Thanks!
How do you know I started a binge of kitchen organizing videos yesterday??? This is hilarious! 😅
Such cool ideas! Looks so organized. She’ll love it. Need you come my house!!
Love your videos especially story telling way. My all kids including 6 years old love watching your video.😊
That is awesome!😁
My kitchen Reno starts in a few weeks so I will be starting with a blank slate. I have already been thinking about a lot of this stuff you have talked about from watching all your other videos. Thanks this video reassured my thinking of changing my placement of things. I can’t wait to my kitchen done and organized.
I'm saving up for a kitchen reno and Cas has already saved me money because I realised wall cabinets don't work for us so we're having everything in lower drawers (no cabinets) and a couple of open shelves for my visual husband's spices/oils
I’m going on vacation in March. I would love to come home to an organized kitchen! 😊
Your hair and outfit be slaying!
