I like the job you did on the level. It came out really nice. I like the color and the accent on the lettering really makes it pop. I like Japanning and would like to try it myself sometime but the way you did the level, it looks better and you can see the lettering and model number so much easier not to mention the color is much nicer.
Thanks Kid! Ya Brother you got exactly what I was thinking and wanted to portray in my video. I've done japanning before and maybe I'll do it again on something but the process is very time consuming for me. I know it's a solid finish and that's why Stanley used it but the black really shadowed the lettering so I wanted to bring them up a notch.
WOW that level is as old as my knees feel!! LOL That was a super restoration!! I have had some luck with an acetone bath for removing japanning. Back when even the paint was meant to last several lifetimes! Have a super week!!
Thanks Patrick! That japanning is some tough stuff that's for sure. Wish my knees were made out of it. .LOL. Take care Brother. 3 days down 2 to go until the weekend!
Very cool level. It's fun to mix it up every now and then paint something like that. I think it looks great and I'm glad the little rusty set screws didn't beat you! Excellent job my friend.
Awesome job brother. The sage green looks so much better than the japanning. I hope I look that good when I’m over 100 years. Take care buddy. Look after that lovely wife of yours too.
Thanks My Brother from Down Under! I thought the japanning was hiding the details too much. I'm sure you'll be just as good looking then as you are now. Just keep drinking that good beer. Take care love to the family. Hope all is well.
Very nice job. The lighter color makes that level pop. Thanks for saving this still useful, rare tool. Your dedicated motors for wire wheeling, and buffing, and your nicely organized shop are enviable
Thank you Pat! I thought the black was too muted and shadowed to see the lettering. Putting my buffer and wire wheels separate is a real time saver for me and my shop has two looks organised or complete chaos. LOL!
Good Morning John, I'm always up early. And I go to bed way too early. Have you ever seen a small off set screw driver for getting in those tight places like on this level? It's a pain to try and remove those set screws.
That level turned out beautifully! Amazing work as always. It’s awesome that it survived for so long and now it hopefully has many more years ahead thanks to you!
Great resto George. Those are some unique looking bunch of set screws. Nice choice in the color. I was thinking, will he go for an industrial grey maybe? But that was a nice surprise choice of green. Offset with the black letters it really looks nice. 👍🏻Thumbs up brother!
Mike,Mike,Mike! I thought the green and black would really make it pop. The japanning was so bland it really hid the lettering and those screws were funky alright. Thank you Brother and I hope you are doing well.
Awesome job George. A very cool piece. In my mind I was thinking you might go with Stanley yellow. The color choice is great. Great video. Take care brother.
Thank You Mr. Dale! Oh the Yellow would have been pretty cool! That's one color I don't have in the shop. I'll have to look for some next time I buy shop supplies. Take care Brother!
Good I see you did t have to break out the 1/2 impact on the. Screws..😁 time and patients prevails again. Green and white details like the SK stuff... That came out really nice the name pops again, I bet better that originally...
Thanks Brother! Time and Patience was right. Not usually my strong suit. I was begining to think I might have to put this one back in the drawer for a while...but we got it and that black finish wasn't doing anything for this little stunner. Take care Brother!
Thanks Mike! The deox-c is safe. I haven't had any issues with it neither has Chrissy and she's kinda sensitive to cleaners and stuff. . If you want you can find more info through the link.
Hey George 👋🏻. Nice colour, part of me was hoping for an orange but guess thats just me. Dont hear the term Japaning used much nowadays, its an interesting process, by all accounts, im probably not patient enough to have a go yet.
Hey Alex! Oh orange that would have been sweet. I've done the japanning before and yep it's time consuming that's why I haven't done it in a while..but I think I might do it on another project one day.
Maybe the earliest ones didn't have the 63G designation? Sold that model with and without the groove according to the 1949 Stanley catalog. My 24" #63 has no groove, and just says 63.
Hey! been catching up on the older videos, got to one where you mentioned Time Team. I looked at my wife and she said " Yes! he said Time Team" I have watched every episode. But she spotted you writing with your left hand...........Ha! your not identical twins, paternal maybe. :-) Happy Canadian Thanksgiving George and family.
Hey Don! Happy Canadian Thanksgiving to you hope you are enjoying the Holiday. Yes we have seen every episode and I have a couple of signed photos of Sir Tony Robinson that Jim from @handtoolrestoration sent me and a limited DVD. Let your wife know I'm actually ambidextrous..I use my left hand so folks can tell us apart.. Take care Buddy..
Hey Matt, no those screws aren't fun at all.I like this green a lot I'm starting to use it on more and more projects. . Starrett..That's a nice one! Take it easy Buddy! Catch up with ya later.
( ....nobody is around....be honest...Do you ever take some of these restored tools inside the house? I will carry ratchets around in my pocket...just cause. Shhhhh....people are coming back..talk about the weather )

That's a great job and a fantastic tool thanks as always for sharing your time and skill thanks George 🍺🍺👍👍
Thanks Brian! I appreciate it! 🍺🍺🍻 I thought you'd like that sage green.
Outstanding restoration on that Stanley level. Man vs. Japaning is always entertaining.
Thank You Mr. John! You know it's a fight that's going the distance! All 12 rounds! 😁💪
Turned out beautiful. Thanks for sharing!
Thank You Todd! I really appreciate you taking your time to watch and leave me a nice comment.
Definitely something worth restoring. Thanks again, George
Indeed! These old tools need to be restored so they can be around a lot longer. Thanks for checking in Brother.
Frickin sweet, George! I love that color and the highlighting of the lettering.
Thanks Brother! That japanning was just hiding the lettering so I wanted to make it pop.
George, ain’t it funny that we know when we are having a good day when we pop a set screw loose! Love those small levels. You made her look new!
Hey John thank you Brother. , There are a few things that make us happier than that sweet sound and feel of a set screw coming loose.
Very nice job again George, that looks great
Thank You Robert! I hope all is well and your projects are going your way.
Nice level that was a nice restoration that is good for another 100 years
Thank You Dan! It will out last any thing made today that's for sure.
Nice job George! Great color choice.
Thank You Scott! I wanted to really make this one pop.
Nicely done I like the looks of it before and aft, gonna keep my eyes peeled for one of those, Cheers George!
Hey Mike! Thank You. Happy hunting Hope you bag one.
More to that than I expected. Turned out mint!
Thank you Guy! Appreciate that Man!

Ahhhh! Sage green! My favorite color for antique tools! Nicely done Super George!
Funny, my dentist asked me if that was my favorite color.

George that Stanley level came out great.
Thank you Stephen! I hope all is well with you.

Thank You Fred G! I thought it would be cool to do a little something different with this one and thank you for the awesome level.
Special Congrats on getting those screws out! I've heard that Stanley sometimes used proprietary threads. You break one, you no findum replacement.
@@larrydye6374 Lucky for me they didn't break. I have another that is missing a screw so I haven't restored it yet.
Looks great George. I had no idea that little level was that old. Well done!
Thank You Mr. Bill! I was surprised too. Stanley is an old company and it's amazing how many of their tools are still around.
George, awesome job!
Thank You John!

Very nice level…….these are like pieces of art, and it needs an artist to restore them….🍻🍻looks great ……nice one 🇬🇧🇺🇸🍻
Thanks Ant! They took pride in making these tools back then. Nothing made today compares. Take it easy Buddy! 🍻
Lookin' good!
Thanks Man!
That level turned out beautifully! Amazing work as always. It’s awesome that it survived for so long and now it hopefully has many more years ahead thanks to you!
Thanks Brotha! Stanley made tools to last. You can still find quite a few of their old tools today and they come back beautifully.
Very good job thank you for the video
Thank You! I really appreciate you checking it out and taking your time to leave me a nice comment.
Very neat piece! Turned out great!
Thanks Man. I appreciate it Brother!
Turned out really nice. Like the colour 👍
Thanks Thunder from Down Under! I thought the japanning was too dull it was shadowing the lettering.
Very nice resto, I have one also and use it all the time, the little guy is bullet proof.
Thanks! This little thing is built solid. Probably why they have lasted so long.
@@Uwannawatch I agree, and men back in the day were strong enough to carry all those tools lol
Beautiful restoration George. That's a nice piece of history. Thanks for sharing your expertise. Love the color
Thank You Michael! I appreciate you always checking out what I'm up to and for all your encouragement.
Great job I've never seen one like that before so it must be rare due to age
Thanks Larry! I'm sure there are some on Ebay but I haven't seen any others in the wild.
Hey !George très belle restauration de ce petit niveau. La couleur est superbe, et le nom et numéro rehausser de noir, ça le fait. ❤
Thank You Patrick, I thought it would be a nice color combination to highlight it's details.
Great resto George. Those are some unique looking bunch of set screws. Nice choice in the color. I was thinking, will he go for an industrial grey maybe? But that was a nice surprise choice of green. Offset with the black letters it really looks nice. 👍🏻Thumbs up brother!

I thought levels were invented in 1976. Until I was ten years old my father would just smack the back of my head and say straighten up.
🤣🤣🤣🤣 Your Dad too Huh? Oh those were the days...

Thanks Mike! The deox-c is safe. I haven't had any issues with it neither has Chrissy and she's kinda sensitive to cleaners and stuff. . If you want you can find more info through the link.
Nice job…how did you paint the raised letters and numbers?
Thanks Joe, I used a paint pen for the letters and numbers. I use them on most of the projects I do that require highlighting..

With a groove on the bottom surface, the model number should be 63G
