Clear as mud....Wish they would just set out a clear set of guidelines....and how are you supposed to open a Thai bank account if you are abroad?

You can't get an account from overseas, only locally in Thailand by what I understand, the process is you get a visa, either O or OA from the Thai embassy in your country, or if you traveled to Thailand on a tourist visa get it exchanged at Thai immigration for a O or OA visa (I don't know if any bank that will give you an account on a tourist visa). It's usually a 90 temp O/OA visa given, giving you enough time to then go to a bank in Thailand and setup an account (If you got the visa in your home country you get up to 90 days I think it is to enter Thailand, once you do the 90 day visa is activated). You will need to show proof of your address in Thailand and usually you will need that doc certified by your embassy in Thailand. Then with your passport/visa, certified address you go to a Thai bank and open an account. Usually takes about 40-60 minutes. PS you will also now need to include your countries Tax ID. For immigration the 800K baht deposit must sit in your account for 60 days before you can turn that 90 temp visa into a full 1 year retirement visa. This is why you get a 90 day temp visa, plenty of time to do the process.

Simple. Come here and get 30 day tourist visa which you can extend for another 30 which will give you enough time to find a good place for you to live. Then go to an agent, give them 20,000 or 30,000 baht and let the professionals do it for you. It may take a month but worth it. Most, if not all agents will open a bank account for you, some will even lodge the 800,000 baht necessary, for a fee of course. For me the process took about 3 weeks. Next thing is get your drivers licence and again there are agents that will help you through this process.
Or get a Thai girlfriend. 😉

@@ronniew3229 some will even lodge the 800,000 baht necessary???? if you mean the agent covers that money long enough to get past immigration (because you don't have the funds needed) what you are basically suggesting is defrauding immigration, get caught and you get deported.

The insurance ends up being part of the Visa cost when I looked at it some years back as many of the Thai insurance policies say you have to be in Thailand 6 months of the previous 12 months. Which may or not be the case, especially if new to Thailand, and using it's multi feature often.
Or have tjey fixed that? 😊

A little confused. Are you referring to year 1 of OA issuance with regards to multiple re-entry or are you saying if I have an OA EXTENSION with valid insurance I have no need to get a re-entry permit to come and go?

No. In the second year you need to get re-entry permits to come and go from Thailand.

That’s what I thought. Glad I haven’t been wasting time and money. Thank you.

I will get an AO visa with the duration of my health insurance (12 months insurance = 12 month visa). Do I need to carry my health insurance documents when I will re-entry the country in order to show the immigration officer that my visa is still valid ?

No. Your insurance details are already noted on the Thai immigration system.
