I spent 2 weeks at the York Park Inn back in 2021, my experience was completely different! The room felt clean, the headboard was leather with multicolour LEDs surrounding it, felt modern and a lovely bed.
I stayed in the Park Inn by Radisson Palace, in Southend-on-Sea, a few years ago (2018) and it was superb, but then recommended the hotel to friends who stayed last year, and it could not have been more disappointing. I know the entire world has a labour shortage (or so it seems) and especially in the hospitality industry, but simple housekeeping seemed to be an afterthought.
I’ve stayed here twice before. Once when it first opened & I had my work do there. The second time was last year. Both times my room was great, clean, tidy & very comfortable.
This is in my home town . I always wondered what park Inn was like . After seeing this don't think I stop there .. There is one hotel you should try is the bull Hotel.
My daughter had a holiday job as a cleaner ( chamber maid) in a budget hotel whilst at university, one thing she told me was to NEVER DRINK FROM THE GLASSES OR CUPS in hotel rooms until you have washed them thoroughly yourelf. She explained that the cleaners were constrained by time limits and HAD to get a certain number of rooms cleaned within a certain time frame. The time allowed was way too short to be able to clean properly and one of they ways that the cleaners saved time was to use the same cloth to clean everything and I mean everything...ew..yes. It is the management who pay minimum wage and then expect cleaners to work within a ridiclous time frame that causes the most problems - in my opinion.
Not unusual at all for the room cleaner to have a certain number of rooms assigned to them. Some guest leave impossible messes, and it has to be reported to the manager so they can extra charge for damage. I remember staying in a hotel and next door I swear the guest partied most of the night. The next morning I heard the maid say "oh my god" when she opened to door to that room.
There was a show in the US that had hidden cameras in the hotels and showed just this, so ever since just washed everything myself. Caught on camera was just that, they washed the toilet/sink areas, then the cups with the same rag.
I remember reading this somewhere before and always think about it when staying in hotels. Also saw a video once where they did swabs and the remote rarely gets cleaned and had the most germs on it, worse than the toilet 🤮
What frustrates me about this hotel - they spend so much on "freebies" like cookies, popcorn, biscuits, tea, coffee + a nice TV, iron, slippers, dressing gown etc yet can't spend it on cleaning. I would rather have a clean room over any of that. For a more budget hotel they need to get their priorities straight
I've always said that I prefer two-star or even no-star no-frills hotels where everything is clean and works over some that are in theory four star because of the appointments like room safe, TV etc. but where these things are often not well maintained or outright broken; lots of possible issues that simply can't happen if you don't have those often superfluous things - these days, who really needs a TV in the room anyway, when most people have their entertainment and information on tablets or smartphones, including movies etc.?
I think the problem is that some people are exactly the other way around. They don't check around much for cleanliness but woe betide if there's no free mint on the pillow. Generally hotels aren't charities, so they spend on what gives them the biggest return. High quality and presentable freebies instead of cleaning suggests to me that they get more high star reviews and less complaints with the freebies than they get for a clean room that's lacking them. That or they're two different teams and they're heavily understaffing/paying the cleaners. Seen that more times than I'd care to admit, too.

I always stay at Premier Inn(or occasionally Travelodge if I'm feeling cheap) when travelling in the UK, never had a complaint with either. Watching this I think I'll stick to them.
Last time I stayed at Premier (a long time ago) I paid well over the odds as it was a Saturday night. The bed was so hard I didn't sleep a wink, the staff just said 'oh' when I told them I hadn't slept (despite the money-back guarantee) and for the price the budget aspects made the experience very disappointing. It was clean, at least, but I'll never stay at a Premier again.
I worked for 2 years on maintenance in a local Park Inn. Looking at the state of the shower enclosure made me heave ! As a general rule, the cleanliness of hotel bedrooms and bathrooms is a " wipe over" and on to the next. Until you have worked behind the scenes in one of these places, then you have no idea how filthy they actually are. The beds are a health hazard in their own right. Every kind of body fluid you can imagine spills onto those mattresses and at best they are turned over. Don't give them your custom.
When you pulled that cushion out of the sofa I nearly gagged and the stains on the bottom of the beds are just vile. I couldn't have slept there after discovering this so you and Gaby are braver than me! The reception area was nice but that doesn't make up for the fact that the rooms were absolutely filthy. Good review again Tim.

@@WalkWithMeTim Because that's the part everyone sees and the image of the hotel, the rooms are second to them as if you're coming to check in or make an in-person booking, that's the bit you see.

White bits in the corner of the bedroom, when you moved the chair, could be from moth or beetle, such as clothes moth or carpet beetle, both feed on fibres in fabrics. This usually starts in corners or areas not commonly walked on, also explains why the carpet may have been lifted before to allow for insecticide treatment

Those little black spots are dry blood spots from bed bugs. and the reason why they covered that, is probably because they try to put a bed bug cover that is obviously not working. Enjoy your new bed bugs at home.
Great video Tim. Love your channel keep up the fantastic work! I think you were right to ask for the room swap. A lot of hotels seem to forget the little ones. That carpet looked scratchy and rotten in parts, must be 10+ years old..... not ideal for toddlers to be walking and crawling around on.
My wife used to work as a chamber maid years ago and she never uses the cups/mugs in a room. She remembers how they used to washed them in the bathroom sink 😮
I should add that this particular hotel did not have a restaurant. Also, some of the other staff would just rinse the glassware/mugs. Or wipe it down with the same cleaning cloth used on other things.
Absolutely disgusting!!! I wouldn't of let my granddaughters crawl around on that carpet. Looked like someone had a very very bad stomach, but they didn't throw it away. That is so bad, I am surprised they get away with that bed. Thanks Tim xx
I'm staying at a Travelodge for a few weeks because our flat is having major work done, and it's not to bad. The rooms clean, the included breakfast is okay. And the bed is comfortable.
In serious need of refurbishment, not only that but some attention to detail in the housekeeping. The shower slip mat can easily be replaced with stick on grip strips, I used them in my shower at home and in hotels that I have worked in.

Usually when I go away i stay at Premier Inn as i know they're reliable. I went London once overnight with my sister and niece. My sister booked a room in an independent hotel. It was terrible. Creeky floors, dirty bathroom, terrible beds, no kettle, and when my niece opened the wardrobe door it fell off it's hinges almost onto her (she was only 5) but luckily my sister saw it happening and grabbed the door before it hit her. As a resident of the City, I've heard many stories of that particular hotel and I certainly wouldn't stay there... One thing said is that it housed immigrants for a while, I don't know how long for. It doesn't excuse the state of it regardless. X
Hi Tim I worked for park Inn for 5 years a lot of the hotels are still waiting on room refits while I was at Manchester park Inn they had there's the beds got replaced and mood lighting head boards new bath rooms with the rainbow theme new equipment in all rooms new park Inn carpets in all rooms and floors new mugs with logo and the cookies have been replaced with fruit and welcome plate for members with a chocolate brownie all made fresh each day Hopefully you stay in one that has had the updated Refurb so you can compare
Never stayed in a park Inn. There is one near to where I live. We had staff parties in the hotel but never stayed over. Food wasn't great to be honest. I don't think I would stay in one. A very fair visit Tim. Another good video. Lovely to see little Casper.
Hiya Tim,I thought hotel reception was good, but rooms have let hotel down, but you can see that they are try to refurbish,I use to be a chamber maid in premier Inn many years ago as I know you have a small amount time per room but we made sure that room was cleaned and checked by housekeeper before any customer went in,I think a lot of hotel companies are cutting back with time to clean and make sure rooms are checked and also not make sure rooms are decorated and kept up to standards,I think some hotels are struggling, thanks for vlog and have a good wkend 👍
Thanks for this one. I travel to Peterborough for work quite a lot and I’ve debated staying here a few times. Think I’ll stick to the Premier Inn round the corner!
I've stayed at a couple of Park Inns at Bescot and West Brom, both were fine, so surprised at this. Might be OCD but I go over all the touch points with wet wipes, plus head board and horizontal surfaces. My daughter had a hotel cleaning job when at Uni, she told me that every horizontal surface in a hotel room would have had a used condom on it sometime.
I've stayed in the Park Inn in Bedford. I seem to recall Alfa use them as their hotels. Had no grumbles other than nearly ending up in The Great Ouse. Can't beat all those stains...let's just assume the nights start in the Loveseat and action takes its course🫣
It seems like they not only repurposed the building, but the phone, beds and glasses (from school)! You should give them another try without the family, maybe in year! Have you every been to Hartland Quay? Stunning place, very awesome.
I'm honestly shocked by your experience! I've only stayed at the Park Inn by Radisson in York but it was for my partner and I's anniversary and we both loved it! Staff was very friendly and accommodating, super clean modern room, and great location. When we go back to York I'd definitely stay at that particular location again. I guess maybe we got lucky or that location is above par from the rest because wow! What a difference
The york one is in amazing location and its decent but Radisson should gut it or knock it down and rebuild as something really high end and charge a fortune for it. Half the rooms are literally right over the river so they'd still fill it.
Leicester has a Premier Inn plus, which was a BT building, at 1 St Georges Way, you can't miss it is 16 or 17 floors high. You do get great views of Leicestershire at the top. Worked there for a couple of months. However getting a fire drill when you are on the 15th floor is no joke when you can't use the lifts.
Woa that's a shame that one. But can't blame hotel totally if the cleaners are not fully committed. I hope they find proper ones fast. Get it ship shape in no time. Tim honest and on point once again great stuff 👏
I was shocked, Tim, to see one of those mobile phone masts on top of the building! It shows on the introduction part of your video. It seems a bit slap happy in the rooms, where there's various stains and dust about in certain places. Those biscuits didn't look over-welcome, either. But, it's been good of you to produce this video, thank you.
Don’t think you’ve done a Point A. Stayed at the one by Kings Cross. Strange feeling in the room, disco lights but very clean & modern. Walls were quite thin. Did hear the couple next door ‘enjoy’ their morning haha. Some rooms don’t have windows but mine did all be it was small.
Did you say it was an ex-BT office building? It still looks like it😄. I know - I've worked in quite a few! A bit grim but not the worst. Those sofas and carpet look like original fittings😁! And those bed bases...? Cheers, Tim and Gaby and Casper!
Oh dear Tim, well that was a bit of a let down, looked pretty okay as you went in, the entrance was nice and fresh, then things got worse. The cleaniness of the rooms was like Pontins all over again, unlucky to get a dirty room no, both you had were not great, maybe they need new cleaning staff. I remember when I used to clean at Haven in Caister I would of got sacked if I cleaned like that lol. Thankyou as always Tim, certainly an eye opener that one x
Great videoTim. One thing I hate is when a place has a really nice reception area and then filthy rooms. I'd rather it the other way around. I'm not sleeping in the reception area.
That did not look like a nice room especially for the price! Can understand your concern especially with little Casper! Glad the staff were helpful at least!
Impressed by the reception area but then let down by the rooms. The glasses in the bathroom were the type you had at school, as did I; and I'm about thirty years older than you!!!
Another great review, to me the rooms just lacked any sound. Got a very empty and basic vibe coming g through on the video and in parts cleaning standards would be what I would expect from Britania hotels.
Travel lodge is the same, our cleaning company had the contract and cleaners was allowed 7minutes to clean and change linen in 1 room, they are never deep cleaned, and a quick wipe over everything, the mattress well don't look.
Some branches of Travelodge is even better standard but Premier Inn is much nicer. I didnt realise that Park Inn was that bad either. Thank you for viewing this hotel so we know what to expect.
Based on this video, it seems to me that Park Inn in the UK has more issues than its American counterpart (I am American). I stayed at Park Inn once in January 2022 in Salt Lake City & the room was excellent. Everything was very clean & I got not one but two TV's in my suite. I also got a free breakfast which tasted great. The two bad things about my stay there was that the coffee with the free breakfast tasted absolutely terrible & the in room temperature control system wasn't working properly which meant the room temperature was at 80 degrees for the whole stay making it difficult to sleep.
I live in Peterborough about 10 mins away from the hotel and always wanted to stay, just for a chilled evening to my self but I might pass now. Looks nice when you go past it 😅
I'm quite shocked by your experience with Park Inn, I used to stay in a lot of them for work and never had any problems. They always seemed clean and tidy but maybe I wasn't looking for filth 🤔 Great video as ever, keep up the good work. PS loved the livestream from Bournemouth.
Sure you'll read your comment section once in a while and hope this question gets answered.. Tim, why the heck do you not own a UV light? The amount of hotels you stay at you could really do the review business some justice just by showing us really how clean these hotel room beds are.. Thanks Tim love ya content and great video as always! Love from media & corporate family
i was confused at first when you first walked in thought the only bed was a sofa bed lol 😂😂 it seems that if they just got new carpets beds and cleaned up it would be pretty nice, reminds me of the suits you get at Britannia hotels your paying more for space but everything in it is dirty and shaby,
After all of the nice hotels you've been to lately, ie clean and in good condition, this one was abit of a shocker lol. Another great video Tim, and certainly would be a place I'd avoid.
Oh dear, Park Inn. Id love you to pop in to our Travelodge at Alwalton in Peterborough if you ever get the chance. We are on the outer edge of the City though :(
Funny you mention travelodge they can have odd one or 2 not so good hotels The aberdeen city centre one is spotless my first visit too it February and returned April speaks for itself As for park inn not been in one yet but got one booked in June so find out then yes like you I shocked Tim thanks for video upload
I remember booking in to a hotel the next morning I heard running it was the cleaners running from room to room because they only had a certain amount a time to clean the rooms if they didn't do it they had to stay behind and finish them without extra pay
Tim have you been to Premier Inn in Peterborough. It’s not far along from where you are now. It’s fairly new Hotel in lovely grounds and joins on to Paul Pryer Pub, which is a table to table pub., which is lovely
would love to see your review of a radisson blu hotel, i used to go to the one at Manchester airport before every holiday but the prices are astronomical these days
Raddison is an upmarket chain sort of equal to Holiday Inn and Novotel but obviously they don't put as much care into their economy hotels but I suppose compared with Britannia PLC it's luxury!I bet that they don't have a 10hr checkout like Britannia PLC do either?!
Yes you spoke to staff and they seemed understanding but I would send the video of the furniture, carpet and especially that shower and the cracked walls to the head office of the company. I understand it is a budget hotel but still you want to make sure it is safe especially with a little one. Just a thought.
Very icky. What the hell are they thinking? Good on you for complaining. Maybe that other room hadn’t been cleaned at all as that fold out bed was made up which seemed odd. Better luck next hotel
I've stayed at a premier inn, it was great, but unfortunately the mattress smelled, I couldn't get away from it as the hotel was fully booked, so just had to put up with it and have the sheets changed.
The first room lounge remind me a bit like a games room hub with the sofa. I actually thought that was were you going to sleep at first, before I saw the bedroom. Oh my, they really need to get new carpet and do more DIY to the rooms.
The dust is brown down the sides of the sofa in both rooms, it looks like plaster dust which would kind of make sense if the rooms had been redone but they patently haven't, ordinary room dust doesn't come in that colour, as for the bed base, just euuuw, I think its the after effects of damp, I expect to see a lot of this in the next few years because the hotels with no guests over lockdown didn't bother to heat the rooms to save money but as we all know, no heat means damp and mould.
None related to this video but reminded me of a premier I stayed at in Jan Stockport central. it was a right mess, there was kids running around who were not even guests at the hotel. The bed moved in the nighr so the pillow kept falling down the back the bed. The shower screen was not present so they had a curtain up and the water just went everywhere. room felt very dirty. Luckily I managed to get a full refund. Maybe this might be one to try in the future. the breakfast well for what I paid was stockily poor. stale bread etc not nice.
I've stayed in 2 Park Inn's. Volgograd in Russia was the best one, it was brand new and built for the World Cup. I stayed in 2016 unfornatley due to world events cant see me going back there anytime soon! Which is a shame because it was a great place and the people were very nice. The other was Alexanderplatz in Berlin. Which was real good for location and I cant remember a vast amount about it other than that! What happens in Berlin stays in Berlin!! Then I met the wife and have to stay in Raddison's now!
I think that fact the second room, which they were more proud to offer you, may imply the standard is abysmal throughout, but the cleanliness level is a total lottery, though clearly never of a good enough standard!
Having worked at the first Hyatt Regency in Minneapolis, Minnesota (USA), in housekeeping, I would've been fired if my rooms weren't cleaned proper which includes dusting. ...very sand that the first room was so dirty ☹️
Have you stayed at Park Inn? Was I just unlucky?

@@nevzy619 Omg I just made a comment on this same video about this hotel. I didn’t last an hour in my room at Wembley International, it was disgusting.
@@thequalitydan ah mate I never complain but this was horrendous loved London itself just that hotel was abysmal at best dirty laundry from rooms in the lifts that we were using people smoking in the higher floors to.
As a resident of the City, I've heard many stories of that particular hotel and I certainly wouldn't stay there... One thing said is that it housed immigrants for a while, I don't know how long for.
It doesn't excuse the state of it regardless. X
Hi Tim I worked for park Inn for 5 years a lot of the hotels are still waiting on room refits while I was at Manchester park Inn they had there's the beds got replaced and mood lighting head boards new bath rooms with the rainbow theme new equipment in all rooms new park Inn carpets in all rooms and floors new mugs with logo and the cookies have been replaced with fruit and welcome plate for members with a chocolate brownie all made fresh each day
Hopefully you stay in one that has had the updated Refurb so you can compare
Sounds good
Never stayed in a park Inn. There is one near to where I live. We had staff parties in the hotel but never stayed over. Food wasn't great to be honest. I don't think I would stay in one. A very fair visit Tim. Another good video. Lovely to see little Casper.
It looks more like an unclean dormitory at uni than a hotel room 😂
Half the rooms are literally right over the river so they'd still fill it.
maybe it was just a bad room/hotel
Tim that room looked rank. Love your videos. Informative and down to earth. Keep up the great videos 👍👍👍
An interesting and real review Tim. Looks very dodgy and also it's very dangerous to leave Fire doors open or a jar 😍😍😍
Hey Tim, just wondering if you've ever been to the Orkney Islands? Lovely place in the north of Scotland with unique culture and food!
What hotel would you recommend ?
@@paddypower8430 Try the Albert in Kirkwall. Just came back from there.
Not yet 😉
@@paddypower8430 Ayre Hotel is good and nice restaurant with harbour views
The lady from “The Hotel Inspector”program would have had a field at this hotel , “not to be speak of Four in a Bed”.
Did you say it was an ex-BT office building? It still looks like it😄. I know - I've worked in quite a few! A bit grim but not the worst. Those sofas and carpet look like original fittings😁! And those bed bases...? Cheers, Tim and Gaby and Casper!
Tim that room looked rank. Love your videos informative and down to earth. Keep up the great videos 👍👍👍
I'm not sleeping in the reception area.
been watching intermittently for a few years, cool to see you staying somewhere in my home city.
That did not look like a nice room especially for the price! Can understand your concern especially with little Casper! Glad the staff were helpful at least!
Thanks Tim. Loved the video. I'm always put off hotels when they're not clean. And note to self.....don't watch while you're eating your dinner! 😄
It was a very good travel blog today of you chilling out and staying in park inn Peterborough tim
Ooh Saturday arvo..9 Stella's
.having a nana nap and get this!! Thankyou 🎉
Hi Tim. I wouldn't stay in that park Inn but another one maybe better or worst. Lovely entrance though but the rooms definitely need a good clean.
Ah that was the problem. You were staying in Peterborough! :-) You need to head to Huntingdon (down the road).
9:54 ah no even for Caspar I don’t think a sheet hiding the mess cuts it. Pity it’s so generally dirty 😮
Impressed by the reception area but then let down by the rooms. The glasses in the bathroom were the type you had at school, as did I; and I'm about thirty years older than you!!!
So cute!!! I didn't know he was walking now.
Running at times lol
Looks nice when you go past it 😅
Looks like the sort of place where they discovered penicillin! Glad you all made it out alive.
I'm quite shocked by your experience with Park Inn, I used to stay in a lot of them for work and never had any problems. They always seemed clean and tidy but maybe I wasn't looking for filth 🤔
Great video as ever, keep up the good work.
PS loved the livestream from Bournemouth.
Thanks Alasdair
I've been binging the channel today, I think this is the earliest I’ve ever been to a video 😅
:-)
Never mind about the dust and dirt - at least they folded the bogroll😂
Lol I know right
Sure you'll read your comment section once in a while and hope this question gets answered.. Tim, why the heck do you not own a UV light? The amount of hotels you stay at you could really do the review business some justice just by showing us really how clean these hotel room beds are.. Thanks Tim love ya content and great video as always!
Love from media & corporate family
tbh I would rather not know!
i was confused at first when you first walked in thought the only bed was a sofa bed lol 😂😂 it seems that if they just got new carpets beds and cleaned up it would be pretty nice, reminds me of the suits you get at Britannia hotels your paying more for space but everything in it is dirty and shaby,
After all of the nice hotels you've been to lately, ie clean and in good condition, this one was abit of a shocker lol. Another great video Tim, and certainly would be a place I'd avoid.
Oh dear, Park Inn. Id love you to pop in to our Travelodge at Alwalton in Peterborough if you ever get the chance. We are on the outer edge of the City though :(
A bit of a mismatch between the reception area which looked fine and the disappointing rooms.
OMG !!! Thought that was one big window 😮you were very brave staying 😂 I've stayed at a few hotels but I always remember the worst 😅
Funny you mention travelodge they can have odd one or 2 not so good hotels The aberdeen city centre one is spotless my first visit too it February and returned April speaks for itself As for park inn not been in one yet but got one booked in June so find out then yes like you I shocked Tim thanks for video upload
yes I have stayed in a few bad ones
Oh wow I've never heard of a park inn
I remember booking in to a hotel the next morning I heard running it was the cleaners running from room to room because they only had a certain amount a time to clean the rooms if they didn't do it they had to stay behind and finish them without extra pay
Tim have you been to Premier Inn in Peterborough. It’s not far along from where you are now. It’s fairly new Hotel in lovely grounds and joins on to Paul Pryer Pub, which is a table to table pub., which is lovely
Apologies for repeating my comments. I didn’t think the first one had been entered
Love the videos any chance you can do a Minehead Butlins as looking to go but heard lots have been closed?
Was the main city BT Exchange, operator callcentre, sales office, admin.
If you want to find a really grotty hotel you need to visit Alexandra House in Swindon. I have to stay there when I work away and it is grim 🤢
would love to see your review of a radisson blu hotel, i used to go to the one at Manchester airport before every holiday but the prices are astronomical these days
Raddison is an upmarket chain sort of equal to Holiday Inn and Novotel but obviously they don't put as much care into their economy hotels but I suppose compared with Britannia PLC it's luxury!I bet that they don't have a 10hr checkout like Britannia PLC do either?!
Radisson Blu hotels are the best!
The ironing board looks like someone is standing there. I would hate to wake up at night and see that.
I've stayed at a premier inn, it was great, but unfortunately the mattress smelled, I couldn't get away from it as the hotel was fully booked, so just had to put up with it and have the sheets changed.
This is the type of review we love!❤
I live just down the road from here, and every time I drive past this place it honestly smells like they've ditched a dead body in the drains too.
Those biscuits should have been wrapped up. My guess for the ironing board is people iron in the bedroom. For £155 that's a big no.
Casper is sooooo cute! Aww!
The furniture definitely looks like it's from freecycle/marketplace type places, carpet looks like it was possibly original BT office carpet.
