      And the Dutch cyclist gives way to nobody, regardless of the situation 😮😅 I'm a wheelchair user and one time in Amsterdam the pavement was blocked by building materials and I had to go partly onto the cycle path for a moment to navigate safely around, did it make any difference? Did it heckers like, I was shouted at by a random cyclist, even though they could see the whole situation.

      You are the epitome of a Good Sport. Camping indoors is as unappealing to me as all of Las Vegas, Dubai and any indoor claustrophobic hotel room....I want indoor/outdoor access....lots of glass windows and doors visible to nature or wildlife. I loathe anything glitzy faux gold, cute, cluttery or fal de ralish....lol....for that I can stay home....But I love watching all your videos....my favorites the treehouse, beach cottage, the safari place....These Amsterdam places were another side of hell/ Dubai and Vegas the other side....LOL

    Hi Tim, the mysterious orange thing in the kitchen is a paraffin oil burner. You put the oil in the bottom. The three things is where the three wicks are (ajustable with the round things). They are quite old fashioned. You put a pot on it and used to simmer (slow cook) stew or beef. Anything really. My mum has several which she still uses 😅 Yes, i'm Dutch 😂

    Hi Tim, we live in Amsterdam, just 2 streets from the bridge house you stayed in. We pass this place almost every day and we know it is a ‘hotel room’ now. But we never stayed in it so we are very happy with your video which gave us the opportunity to look inside. This part of Amsterdam has been build around 1925 and the interior of the bridge house is still authentic. Like the sink f.e. Where the orange stool is standing now, used to be the location for a coal stove. Greetings from Amsterdam, Ronald & Astrid

    I quite like the idea of the outside inn. I often travel solo but don't like sharing rooms with others in hostels and often find private hotel rooms to be quite expensive. It seems like a perfect middle ground for someone like me.
    Also fully understand the awkwardness of running to a bathroom in a shared space. Last time I stayed in a hostel I was wandering to the bathroom in my pyjamas at 2am and ended up in a conversation with a person wearing a suit 😂

    The item at 5:25 is called a Petroleumstel. A tyipicla Dutch stove.
    Works by burning kerosene stove and is ideally suited for simmering stew meat and stewed fruits.

    • @stevemurrell6167
      @stevemurrell6167 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I would not be putting kerosene in that thing (fumes in a small room)......I think the above comment mentioning paraffin is more accurate.

    • @MrsJolene-
      @MrsJolene- 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@stevemurrell6167It's in the name, petroleum is kerosine, it's what this appliance was made for. Kerosine is actually pretty clean when it burns, it releases a lot less smoke than diesel/petrol.
      My in laws still use a petroleum burner to heat their greenhouse, it's better for the plants than diesel.
      -Idk about paraffin though, I've always heard it's bad for my asthma to burn paraffin candles, as they do produce smoke and leave residue on furniture.-
      So I looked it up, and paraffin is the same as kerosene! It's not to be confused with paraffin wax, which I did. The candle stuff is different. So you're right, you put paraffin in it! Or kerosene or petroleum. It's all the same stuff with a different name! 🤯

    Best travel channel. Concise content, with focus on the accommodation experience, you make it easy for anyone to decide if they could stay there or not. Keep up the good work. Definitely quirky stays for the lone traveller or with a group but each person having their own space because I cannot imagine sharing that space with anyone else. A rowdy party in that camping area would lead to total and absolute chaos, I would stay away unless I was with a large party that booked it all up.

But it wasn't just loud; the whole house shook every time a bus or lorry drove by (mine was right next to a major bus stop). Wow that's fascinating! The bridge keeper's house looks so cute and they thought of everything! I suppose these things are no longer in use because the bridges are automated now?
    Not so keen on the indoor trailer park but it's a good idea for people who like that sort of thing.

    Enjoyed that Tim thank you. Would love to visit those caravans. I remember caravanning in my grandparents caravan in the 70s. But they had a nice big modern one that easily housed a family. Eight berth, 2 bedrooms (no bathroom back them, used site facilities lol), gas lighting, battery operated portable black and white TV. Many happy memories. I could stay in one of those little ones too lol.

    I loved both of these! Though, the bridge house was my favorite. I’d love to sit and just watch outside…. When you felt the bridge move, it made me smile. I’m in California, USA. We have a lot of earthquakes. And when ever the ground shakes, for what ever reason, we try to guess what the Earthquake Richter Scale would rate it…. My FIRST thought when you mentioned the shaking bridge, was I wonder where that would rate. I love seeing the world with you!

    Tim, you’re going to need to adjust the assessment of “people in the shower” measurement…I’m 6’3” 275lb’s and I require the whole shower 🚿 lol 😂! This is a great video and very informative. Btw, I’d be happy to take care of the chap that confronted you at the pub while you were in the crane room/mini-hotel. Safe travels 👍🏼

    9:35 Aldi? 9:45 Bikes rules the roads in the Netherlands.
    I would stay at the Gate house and Vintage caravan.

    Hi Tim. The little orange item you asked about is a little paraffin stove. You put the paraffin in the bottom, adjust your wicks and away you go. Little stew pot or whatever you wish. My mum used to cook her dutch meatballs in a traditional pan on top of this. I'm half Dutch, fond memories. Enjoy your vlogs. Pat and Andy Long Stratton, Norwich

    Loved this video, it is fascinating to see the labour of love put into these unique places. Would be awesome if you could include if a hotel has any access issues like the outside inn had as it isn't often obvious. Things like steps instead of ramps, disabled toilets if they have them etc. There are so few wheelchair or mobility aid focused travel content in the UK especially.

    The thing on your kitchen , the orange one , is a little vey old fashioned oven, a petrol stove. My grandma had one, you can heat boerenkool on it, or rode kool with appeltjes or spruitjes. Have fun 😄
