Navigate the islands and channels of the Eastern part of Lake of the Woods while travelling back in time in this second installment with host Sean Kavanagh.
Beautifully done im frum Thief River Falls Home of Arctic Cat snowmobiles are father worked in the woods milling timber from the fifty all the way to the mid seventys we would spend picnics on the lake in the end of summer before school great videos love em thanks for sharing 👍
Thank you, the feel of these two documentaries had a timeless old school feel not often replicated by todays productions. It really took me back. Kind of a cross between a vintage national geographic, Dick Proenneke documentary, and an early Warren miller film, if that makes sense to anybody. It's pretty down here in Wisconsin, but nothing like what LOW looks like. Definitely on my short list of places to be.
What an amazing video. Best documentaries on lake of the woods. This part two was just as good as part one. Never a dull moment and very informative. O noticed at the beginning of this one of the untimely death of Greg Lowe. My heart weeps. Such amazing talent. You could see he must have been an amazing person to be around.
1977, I was on a canoe trip. 7 man canoes. We paddled from the mouth of the Rainy River all the way to Kenora, ON. Took us 2 full days, daytime paddling. We travelled predominantly on the west side of the lake.
Great video! TUSEN TAKK! Gives me many good memories from back to 1973 when I 15 years old came to Lake of the Woods all the way from Bergen, Norway. Many visits and stays with the Moens at New Moon Lodge made me love the people and the lake. Last time in 2016. Greetings from Arf & Co in Norway. "I'll be back!"
Just watched part one. Looking forward to this. The first one was the best documentary I've ever seen of lake of the woods. Better then national geographic. It's that good. You and your crew that put these videos together could become rich if you get back into making them. This is the time. Everyone looking for good content to watch.
Thank you very much Sean Kavanagh and the rest of the crew for a fascinating and wonderful 2 episodes of this special place. Like a whole universe in itself. Your enthusiasm hints at the magic to be found there.
I too remember when the turtle portage was called the canal. I have seen photos from the time when the channel was dug. The canal was changed to prevent the stained water from Sabaskong Bay from entering Whitefish Bay
I'm a little late here, having just discovered these videos, but ... how about Clearwater Bay/ Rush Bay, Echo Bay ? I now live far from the Lake, so would love to see that area I was lucky to explore in my youth.
the burning question is NOT ...'how did Nestor falls get it's name'...It is...when will the names that the indigineous people be returned? Obviously that would be a symbolic gesture...as much of the old forests were cut down and turned to profit long ago
Another incredible video! As cool as Turtle Portage is, why can't they simply dig that into a little water channel and get rid of the old winch system?
Ah yes, Long Bay where family owned and operated a 6 1/2 acre summer camp for some 50+ years. Having a small Southern Indiana General Aviation business, the Sioux Narrows airstrip gave our family and friends easy access to our God's Country destination.
Awesome tour! Where can I get information about lake of the woods? I want to do a boat trip on the lake in the future and I would like to find points of interest to see
I like this video I Ben wanted to take long boat from government dock of Morrison , white fish bay and up to kenaro Ontario and make my way to warroad Minnesota then back to the government dock of Morrison
why doesnt baudette have a military base on the USA border any more? There was alot of men from baudette in the air force and the area. It is a very important part of our country, right in the middle
I was stationed there in 1970. I was a radar operator. The base was a NORAD radar station and also a BNCC. Back up NORAD Control Center, 23rd NORAD REGION. I spent some time fishing and hunting the area. I live near Grand Rapids, MN. 140 miles south of Baudette. The base was closed due to the threat of ICBMs. 692nd Radar Squadron, SAGE, Air Defense Command. Very cold and long winters.
Good production but you continue to refer to the pictographs around the lake as petroglyphs!! They are not petroglyphs!!!!! Petroglyphs are carved in the stone!!! Pictographs are painted on with red ochre
One could spend a lifetime exploring the lake.
I might be 3 years late to the party but I enjoyed every minute of it
Excellent presentations, I watched both episdoes and you have captured Lake of the Woods very well. Thanks for posting this!

2nd video was as good as the first! Again, the history of the area is incredible.
I've been coming to this area since 1968--many times. Thanks for the video tour.

In the 1970’s we could drive all the way through Turtle Portage. Wonderful memories. Great video.

Lived here all my life but it’s a huge lake to explore thanks for sharing
Beautiful Place..I would like to go around lake
Thank you for this wonderful documentary
Amazing! I’ve watched both videos three times now with my parents. Any chance there will be a 3rd video showing Clearwater Bay and Shoal Lake?
I'm a little late here, having just discovered these videos, but ... how about Clearwater Bay/ Rush Bay, Echo Bay ? I now live far from the Lake, so would love to see that area I was lucky to explore in my youth.
Nice 👍😊. Video
..did some timber cruising off of Sabaskong Bay in 1990...very late in the year, had to bust the ice to get to the shore in Hay Bay...
Amazing

Jonathon (correct spelling) Morrisseau, was my (Sheryl Beckett) Great Great Grandfather. His son-in-law, Thomas Sweeney also was a lighthouse keeper.
From Kenora ON to Wheeler's Point, MN (mouth of Rainy River) measured distance=65miles.

That lake is a maze. Must be easy to get lost.
Greg Lowe did your sound track. He died way before his time. He was a great musician and great guy.

How cold is it? Looks freezing.
Oh look I work at the sport fishing center
How many hours to do this trip?
What about mosquitos in the summer?
There are many lakes called Lake of the Woods. Which state is this one in?
A small part of it is located in north western Minnesota and a small part is in Manitoba. The majority of the lake is located in Ontario.
