Dude don’t sweat the comments, no one is perfect and honestly everything in some way shape or form is carcinogenic or bad for you in high amounts. A few sips in the hammock with a good book sounds fantastic on a cold camp night
Yeah, youtube comments are not to be taken seriously. I imagine most of the negative ones just have no joy in their lives, so they look to bring others down with them. I guess, I really don't know. This dude is nothing but cool and genuine. Why anyone would be so offended by any of his stuff is asinine lol
A master class in filmmaking. Story, recurring themes, angles, editing, lighting, location, no insincerity, no fake drama, just the glory of the Canadian Shield country and a deep appreciation for nature. Kudos. I could smell the damp leaf mould among the tiny birches, and the fresh wind on the return journey down the lake in a headwind. ❤
Nothing wrong with enjoying a little scotch Jon. I'm from Wisconsin where drinking is practically an olympic sport. The way you partake is done responsibly and I think totally appropriate. I always bring a few ounces of whiskey along when I head out into the wilderness. There's nothing quite like being alone in the peace and quiet of nature and having a little sip of the old fire water! Cheers buddy!
This has got to be one of the best channels on this website. What beautiful scenery and remote vastness of water and land! The beard puns and chip addiction story line throughout the video were the REAL cherry. Keep up the great work brother! I will be waiting for the next masterpiece!
Your videos help keep me sane in a currently insane world. One is reminded of the greater, natural world, who's beauty is always available. All we need is to go to it.
Literally said this out loud last night after I cried for the umteenth (it's a thing) time, while watching the absolute BEAUTY of what is shared; White Otter Castle video, the most incredible unpredicted boreal light show, the Momma and her calf Moose while brushing your teeth, the bears with Erin, in the first camping trip back out after the major injury. It was so dark where I was, too. But I am out there now, thrashing about, leaving early to work to stop at the river, stop at the campsites on the way back home. Nature is the Real Deal...I can handle the matrix now while planning for the campsite. As Bryan Ferry said, "Don't Stop the Dance". Sending Best, Magdalena
Great camera work. Love the low angle shots and straight down views of leaves stream beds and forest floor. Autumn colors, reflection on water and red lichens stunning. Your love of the wilderness shines through. Thanks for taking us along.
You are one with the land, the lakes, and the rivers. Your footprint is absent, yet you share your wanderlust and the beauty you see with us. We should all thank you for that. I thank you. 👏🏼 ❤
Absolutely mind blowing trip dude. The sense of serenity that must come while being so deep in the woods on a mysterious lake, would be deeply humbling. Glad this trip worked out. Thanks for the Thursday evening movie.
Thank you, Jon. Your consistent attitude of gratitude, humility, playful humour mixed with thoughtful commentary, and sharing of “how to ” ideas combined with beautiful film making make your videos so very rich. The addition in this one of your approach to dealing with a long portage just added another layer to my viewing experience. Thanks again and congratulations to you and Erin on your nuptials
Thank you for feeding my (healthy) addiction to Lost Lakes videos Jon 😎. This was “nature porn” at it’s best! The hills, golden leaves, wildlife, shimmering water, storm, and perfect campsite were exquisite. Loved the analogy of the burned forest and the beard 🧔. Wishing you and Erin a happy wedding and a long lifetime full of adventure together.
Minnesota native living in Florida for the last 20 years. Watching your videos brings me back to the days of canoeing up north at the lake cabin, camping, shore lunch and the sounds of the loons. I miss it a lot! (palms trees do get old after a while!) Thank you for all the time you put into documenting your journeys to share with the world. It means a lot. Cheers!
What an incredible trip and absolutely stunning autumn colours. Thank you as always for sharing your adventures and appreciate the time and effort you put into your cinematography and editing. You really are a master of your craft.👏👏👏👏
I enjoy each Video. You are so blessed to live in that area and are able to explore it to the fullest. Thanks for taking us along. Takes me way back in time and makes me want to get out and about.
We were so enthralled with your trip on the lakes. The music you play with the different scenes really made us feel like we were there with you. Thank you for this very special time, so we in our 70's can pretend we are there paddling and camping along with you.
Loving the flavour of this one Jon. Your filmmaking instincts are spectacular and every new creation you make is evidence that you continue to hone your instrument. Endlessly inspiring, I feel like I'll spend the looming winter planning my first solo crown land excursion. May you be blessed with a 60L barrel of the finest arriba chips. Jontario for the order of Canada!
beautiful area, fantastic lake, well done. Sorry your Bluejays didn't make it to far into the playoff's.. Keep drinking your scotch and enjoying your trips the way you want them to be, thanks for sharing,,,, Bob
Lots of Love from Lithuania. When i see these breath taking nature shots i try to imagine what it feels like to escape buzzing city into such beautiful wild alone. Keep it up atleast i can see all of this because of you.
Your best yet from all angles ( perhaps light on fishing!). I am in awe of how your love of nature, the environment and your ability to capture all that in film, script and music brings it together I am particularly impressed by your ability to not fear but welcome the solitude and danger of the solo experience most likely because the faith of the love of a good woman who shares many of your interests, your courage and your passion and the prospect of life together. All the best going forth.
Your videos are masterful, educational, and help those of us with wanderlust into the vast expanse of the wilderness with you when we cannot go ourselves. Thank you for these amazing adventures that help us forget about our daily routines and brings us in a small way to the places we dream of going but are unable to.
John, I know exactly how you feel about the "wunderlust" when one is in the bush. In my 70's now, I long ago came to a point where the fishing didn't matter any more and just being there in the solitude means more than anything. While my legs and knees no longer allow me the luxury of long exploration trips on foot and I won't use an ATV, when people ask me why I still go for my 3 weeks every summer, my answer is just like Sir Edmund Hillary's was when they asked him why he climbed Everest. "Why because it's there ."
Easily my favourite channel, I really appreciate your love and respect for nature, I do envy you (just not when you're getting eaten alive by mosquitoes and doing those massive portages). I said before It's nice to see someone who cooks so many vegetarian meals, and that you shoot the wildlife with a camera instead of a gun. ( I think culturally us Brits have a different view of hunting from North Americans, though I understand people who create this kind of content include it, it's not for me) Sadly my health means I can't do what you do, but watching does allow me to escape for a few hours and for what it's worth has inspired me to set up a little shelter and campfire in my garden, so I can have some isolation and enjoy what little wildlife I get here in the city (Wonderful hedgehogs, birds and the occasional bat) When i get the money I'll be sure to buy you a "Coffee" Diolch o Cymru!
Happy US Thanksgiving Jon & Erin! Another terrific trip and kudos for that bag of chips making it all the way 😉💪🏻 Jon, just do YOU! Man, it's your taste in classical music and my love for BWCA trips that makes your content the perfect "background noise" whilst working. I continually find myself repeating your videos at least a half dozen times each. Congratulations, Sir.

okay, so my 4th time watching this video that I believe cant help but inspire everyone who watches to get out there and explore a far less travelled path, or better, where there is NO path. 4th time watching Jon, I had no choice but to do it with a big bag of Arriba :)
Another wonderful video Jon. You are really selling me on that stick stove. I never take my bush buddy because it's so much work to keep feeding it. I like how you can feed yours with longer and larger sticks. You should design and market your own! I'd buy one from you. Cheers!
These are without doubt the best videos of exploration on the internet. Well done. I just can't get enough of your photography, your perfect narration and the cool camping detail. Keep up the excellent work. And... if they don't like the scotch, just tell them to move on and plague someone else.

What a beautiful lake, especially with those colours! The joy you have out there is palpable...thanks for taking us along. Also, the fact that you take time to film yourself looking longingly at a bag of chips just kills me! Love your channel. Keep it up
I can pass any salty chip snacks EXCEPT Nacho Chips. And now I can’t have salt, due toHBP. When I can take it no longer, I’ll have one of those little snack size bags! 😅😅😅😅

❤ hello john, what an incredibly beautiful video, thank you, God is good, I would never have seen something so beautiful in the Netherlands, you are privileged to live in such a beautiful country❤ God bless from the netherlands 👍
OMG. Those are the best chips ever!!! I grew up in North Western Ontario and those chips were always available. I now live in the Niagara Region, and that brand and flavour are SOOOOO hard to find. What a great surprise to see on your most excellent video.
Looks like a great solo, and what a scenic lake! Beautiful camera work as always... and always getting better. Glad to see your knee is holding up to the work.
Being a Leafs fan is much like being a Canucks fan. Lots of excitement through the season, only for it to all fall apart at the end. If you're English, it's just like watching England in the World Cup. Great highs followed by the guaranteed flop at crunch time. But still we watch in hope.😁
With what you share with us a little sip at the end of an Awesome day is WELL DESERVED Please don't take to heart of what some Frickin BOO HOO says. The way you put these together it tugs at the Soul and the romance and longing scenes with the Old Dutch are so cool. I hope they sponsor you. Thank You So Much !!!
What a great film! Fantastic work John. I really appreciate the work you must put into the photography. Oh and just so you know, I’m not offended by a guy taking a couple of swigs of whisky now and again!
Thank you! Yeah pretty good...a little heavy on the folklore which I like a little of but it was whole chapters sometimes and I prefer the focus on wilderness living and tripping
Thanks for bringing us along, John. Really beautiful. I read all of Farley's work when I was young. Great stuff. Thanks again for giving this old man a chance to get out!
I was fully expecting for you to have some rehydrated chili with those chips (walking taco style), perhaps as a Day 6 evening meal to end your trip. Might also add incentive to not dive into them if they are a part of planned meal. Or you'd just eat them on day 1 have the chili on top of garlic toast per the norm. 😂
Just watched this on the big screen 78 inches....so beautiful this trip. And have to compliment you on your videography...its always great but this one was especially well done with the drone footage. I was wondering how your injury worked out for you. Glad to see you didn't suffer permanent damage. I read a lot of Farley Mowat's books as well and they do fit right in with your adventures. Don't know how long you take to edit but you must be a hubby by now. Congrats. Many happy adventures to you both!!! Ps been watching your videos for a long time now....haven't seen them ALL but certainly the majority. GREAT STUFF.
Thank you so much! It's by Level 6. Mine is entry level (kronos model) and I wish I had gone for a better one. The fit isn't great and I've already had to send it in for 3 repairs
This is my Favorite video you've done yet. So chilled, such calm relaxing scenery and videography. Nothing wrong with a swig of wolf juice after a day of paddling and filming.
Didn’t think you’d surpass the last trip video with something even better, but here it is. You set the bar high then find ways to set it higher. So now there are those of us who wait until the next one is uploaded, and find a quiet afternoon to immerse ourselves in it. Watch the whole thing. End to end. When we could be doing something else. Something better? Doubt it. Thanks again for these. You’ve filled a need in this older paddler’s day. I need some chips now.
Jon, hi.. I’m watching from Australia.. I have to say that I have no interest in canoeing.. but I find your videos very soothing and relaxing to watch. I too love the wilderness of the Australian outback to which I love my gold prospecting , camping and photography. I’ve watched a few of your videos now and love the content and your voice is very relaxing. Keep up the awesome work. 🌸
Another great one Jon. Always a pleasure to watch. The sky and land scenes together are gorgeous. Your right, the adventure of getting to a place is just as exciting as being at that destination.
Another amazing video. My guess is the hours of post production is a 1:1 ratio with the amount of hours spent in the canoe. Also, kudos on the sound. Excellent picture is much easier to pull off than excellent sound. Most don't give sound the attention it deserves.
Dude don’t sweat the comments, no one is perfect and honestly everything in some way shape or form is carcinogenic or bad for you in high amounts. A few sips in the hammock with a good book sounds fantastic on a cold camp night

Wow.....Simply one of your best films yet!!!
You're respect for nature is amazing. You and Erin remind me there are still good humans ❤
💚
What a great film! Fantastic work John. I really appreciate the work you must put into the photography. Oh and just so you know, I’m not offended by a guy taking a couple of swigs of whisky now and again!
Thank you! 🥃
Great vid! Did you enjoy the book? I read it on my last backpacking trip. Really liked it!
Thank you! Yeah pretty good...a little heavy on the folklore which I like a little of but it was whole chapters sometimes and I prefer the focus on wilderness living and tripping
@@LostLakes yes that’s true for sure. Thanks for the reply and keep up the great content!
Perfection! Scenery, Music, Activities and Companionship. Stress gone, thanks Jon.
Amazing and inspiring video. Being disabled your videos inspire me to keep trying as much as I can . Thank you.
qatching it for a second time - even more impacting the IMAGES!!!
Thanks again Jon.
You set a Haigh bar for those that seek to make their best dreams come true. Thanks for sharing your dreams. Grubstake
😜
That transition at 50:30 was jarringly glorious. It really captured those fleeting moments before darkness falls.
Thanks so much Nancy! Just returned from our wedding trip so thank you :)
Definitely the best Channel on TH-cam 👍👍what brand and model of Dry suits do you use
Thank you so much! It's by Level 6. Mine is entry level (kronos model) and I wish I had gone for a better one. The fit isn't great and I've already had to send it in for 3 repairs
Oh it must be my birthday! Working six days a week i dont get to go to nature as much as I like so happily I get to travel with you:)
Everything in moderation buddy. A nice trip and thanks for taking us along. Good luck with the wedding.
Loved video. Good self control with the nacho chips.
Wow, what a find! That’s my kind of Lake👍
Love the guitar music too. Argentinian?
Not sure of the origin but it's Marcelo Nami - Estudio en Mi Menor
This is my Favorite video you've done yet. So chilled, such calm relaxing scenery and videography. Nothing wrong with a swig of wolf juice after a day of paddling and filming.
Much appreciated!
Many thanks Rod!
I hope you plan on doing a trip to this lake and explore some of the others with your new Wife someday in the next spring.
My husband and me wish all the best for Erin and you. What a great trip. How surreal the drone shots were.
You keep getting better Jon! Great camera work and storytelling.
Thank you so much! 👋
Really appreciate that :)
Good video, I get a bit of wander-lust satisfaction through your videos. Only disappointment was that you didn't check out that island lake!
