      @@misterrichardc Do we really HAVE to insert politics into EVERY discussion these days?

    • @TonyM1961
      @TonyM1961 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@misterrichardc While a comparison between blue and red states may have been your intent, you never said so. You only rattled off states by name and noted whether each had home inspection licensure laws. No mention of politics in any manner. So excuse me if I am not a mind reader as to your intent. Go ahead... go back and read your original post that I responded to. I just did and there's no mention of politics. None, zip, zero, nada. So unless you have it in your brain that somehow we are supposed to automatically jump from the topic of home inspections to politics, my premise holds. You see, not everybody in the world is so brain fogged that they automatically filter everything through a political lens. Cool your jets. TRY to forget about politics for awhile (It will do your brain and your heart a whole lot of good). It IS possible to discuss a situation without bringing in identity politics. Yes, a political solution IS called for in order to get educated, knowledgeable, professional inspectors into the market in order to protect we the people, BUT this should be a non-partisan issue because these people are victimizing everybody. Black, white, Asian, Democrats, Republicans, liberals and conservatives, young and old. They don't care about anything but the green so it's way past time for us to set aside our petty (and let's be honest, most of them ARE petty) differences and band together for protection from these criminal predators. It's really just that simple

      I totally saw that coming. He's telling Damon early in the video that they won't be gutting it. I'm thinking right then that Mike was kidding himself. Just from the problems that he found thus far we knew there were major structural problems and the wiring had to be redone. The main plot twist was the asbestos everywhere. They usually just have some wrapping a few pipes. And then we have the basement wall collapsing on top of everything else. This house was an exercise in Murphy's law.

    Every single show that I see when Holmes is involved, his lead supervisor Bennet plus the super crew that function so well with each other. I think I am jealous of the loyalty that they have to Mike and Damon, I think that a lot of contractors would love to see the same thing BUT some of them turn greedy by either doing the job wrong, doing it cheap with inadequate materials, and mostly without permits. That should be a very big NO NO!! Be wise people and beware of those rogues who initially started the disaster where Mike and his crew, Do it Right! Good job guys,

Of course if you going to buy a house with an open consept design " 1) find out if that was built that way OR it the house was renovated to give it the open concept design !

    It's weird to me that in Canada and the US, people use roofing materials which we in the UK would only use on a shed. We use actual real tiles on houses. My house is 63 years old and still has the same roof it was built with, and it'll never need replacing.

    • @jjjacer
      @jjjacer ปีที่แล้ว +1

      its partially cost and need, shingles usually last 10-20years , which heck many people dont even stay living in the same house that long. my 1000sqft house+300sqft garage cost about 9-10,000$ to redo the roof. although might have been cheaper as my uncle's company did the work so had a little discount.
      But it also might do with weather, in my area its tons of snow in winter, with temperatures down to -40c, and strong storms in the summers with 60+mph winds and hail. with temperatures at or above 40c, tile might handle the temps but the roof weight might be too much when you add the snow load, and not sure how well the tile handles high winds and hail as well.
      But then again i can see most of our homes are built for speed and cost, so at least with newer homes some things just dont last as long.

    one of the biggest things to learn and remember from this show:
    Always get an INDEPENDENT home inspector with proper credentials. Do not ever, EVER rely on a home inspector recommended or partly paid for by sellers. That by itself is a huge red flag to me after watching this show. If you're paying, the inspector is more certainly inspecting to protect you. if the seller is paying even part of it, the inspector is likely trying to maintain a relationship with seller or realtor, and won't be brought in again if he scares a buyer away from buying a house. So will more likely gloss over and not mention things that are important.

    This is another déjà bad house. The seller sold the house for a profit. Before buyers buy houses, they should sit down and watch all the old Mike Holmes' videos, to learn the pitfalls, and ask the questions. If the seller hedges on the questions, they could be hiding something. Buyers should hire a professional inspectors/contractors to inspect the property. It is better to get constructive (...no pun intended) input, than none at all. Mike said the repairs will cost $300K. Where did the couple get all that money for the repairs?

    I have always enjoyed your show. And you pointed out all the things people down wrong and you make them correct I think that is just phenomenal. But I grew up in flooring carpet vinyl tile wood. And I’ve seen where you’ve replaced a lot of wood floors and what you’ve tore out parquet floors and you’ve made things right. But never once and I mean never once have I seen anyone install carpet correctly on your show. The other put the tack strip too far from the wall. Tax trip which was originally named tactless strip(that’s another story) is not designed for the nails in the tack strip to hold all of the weight of the carpet if it’s installed correctly. Carpet is not to be installed with the knee kicker. My knee kicker is designed to be used crossways and hallways are in small closets. You were to use a power stretcher to install carpet properly how tight do you stretch carpet you stretch it right up to the tearing point and not beyond. The tighter the carpet the longer it will last. I notice you love to use reborn pad. Yeah it’s cheaper and it’s lightweight and the guys can grab it and just move it around real easy glue it down staple it down all they’re happy and they throw the carpet on it and he kick it in and run that’s throwing carpet in that’s not installing it. Roberts actually makes a foamed rubber pad that is guaranteed for the life of the house reborn pad is not the foamed rubber pad or what a lot of people like to call waffle pad actually allows your vacuum cleaner to work properly. Because it allows air to flow through the carpet. Enough ragging about the carpet because I do like your show but one of the other things I seen that drives me nuts because for the last 25 years I’ve been a fire alarm technician. And I noticed you guys put in smoke and carbon monoxide detectors and install them on the ceiling. Cover monoxide is heavier than air End it settles to the floor. A carbon monoxide detector should be installed no higher than a plug outletit and smoke detectors should be replaced every 10 years because there is a lifespan so if they sit on the shelf for five years that means they’re only good for five years installed. There’s a few other things but most of what you do is good it’ll be great to see the rest of the things done right. And yes there should be a smoke detector in every bedroom and in the corridor hallways point of egress and it’s best if you have the ones with the lights that shine down on the floor so that the children can find their way out of the house in the advent I have an alarm, a faults or real fire. Could not find a number to call you and I really didn’t like putting this out so everybody can see it but I do like to show you do good things and like you said you can’t know it all. So I thought I would share some information with you. Mike I hope you actually get to read this. God bless

      I realize that your comment is a year old, but FYI Mike got injured right around the time of this episode. He wasn't physically able to do as much anymore.

      @@voisindo I watched the older series and the subsequent series and suspected that Mike had some medical issues that limited his on-hands approach.
