so basically Kobe faced far greater competition, in just 3 years from 08-10 Kobe beat more 50 win teams than magic his entire career. Defending on the perimeter does not impact the game that much. Magic ran an offensive team both in transition and half court, he made everybodies lives easier, and there was a lot of times where all you had to do was catch and finish a wide open lane. Kobe is a better player but his impact isn’t bigger then magic

@@marlowstanfield6815 throughout most of the 2000s (even the Shaq led ones) the lakers ranged from just barely in the top 10 to the worst defense up until 2008. So it wasn’t that contagious.
And yea magic played off, but he played a position where it didn’t matter as much, point guards weren’t these 25 ppg scorers, and even off guards didn’t hit 20s mostly. So whether you hid magic or you would have used Kobe to hound a guard, a guard scoring 10-14 points isn’t going to impact the game. They aren’t facing jordan and Drexler 82 times and even if they did neither are stoping either one of the two.
Kobe is a better player and your reasons is one of the reasons why I have him as the better player but the impact, no magic impacted the game that allowed people to do so little on the offensive end but still produce like monsters.
Also he’s a point guard it’s kinda in the job description that he impacts the game more. And Kobe isn’t a position less guard

Kobe had Shaq, who was Finals MVP for all three titles when they were together. Kobe did not even make the playoffs after Shaq was gone. Yes, the team was worse, but, (and this is why Kobe is not better than LeBron in my eyes) if you are the impactful many claim you to be, you get there with whatever. It was not until Kobe had Phil Jackson back and Pau Gasol and perfectly arranged pieces that he won again. People overlook Magic winning as a rookie, subbing for an injured Kareem. While I agree Kobe dominated throughout the 2001 playoffs and certain other series, he had other series during his time with Shaq that weren't impactful. Even after Shaq, he had playoff series where he struggled or was blown out in elimination games. His supporting cast for most of his career was underrated. He came into the NBA playing with 3 all stars and veteran role players. During his stint with Gasol, he had the best front court in the league and multiple players who were borderline all stars or all stars. Although Magic was the main reason for the Lakers success and made his teammates better, I think he gets credit at the expense of his teammates for his first title. I think in the 80s the lakers were not less than top 4 in the standings ever. And they went to eight finals and won 5. Having said that, kobe played 20 years for the lakers. Magic played only 12 in total. Kobe and shaq were together for 8 years; 7 of which kobe only had shaq. In 1 in 2004 kobe had gp and karl malone making it 3 top 75 teammates. played 12 years without another top 75 teammate. On the other hand for multiple seasons magic had 3 top 75 teammates. And played 0 of those 12 seasons without another top 75 teammate. Magic was definitely the star/best player of those teams however kobe did close to the same with less help. Aside from the top 75 teammates magic was surrounded with multiple hall of famers and all time supporting cast. Kobe help the lakers win as many titles as magic did. Besides kobe was a better individual talent than magic who could take over a game on its own. Magic definable has the best argument the thing is if kobe would have had more help during his career who knows how many more finals appearances and championships he would have had.

It's difficult to compare Magic and Kobe. Because, honestly, as great as Kobe was he picked fruit from trees that were planted and watered by Magic.
There really is no modern NBA without Earvin Magic Johnson. Not only is he easily was one of its greatest players. He was it's greatest, marketer, showman, ambassador.
Magic made it fashionable to PASS the ball. He proved that you did not have to be the highest scorer to be the best, most important player on team. Magic proved that generosity was a WINNING formula.
Most of the reason WHY you would want to even play for the Lakers is because of SHOWTIME created by Magic and the late great Jerry Buss.
Magic played in NINE Finals in 12 seasons. Won five of them. And even his losses were to many of the 20 greatest players of all time. MJ, Bird, Moses, Dr. J, Isiah.
Magic was so great that only 2 seasons after Kareem retired he had the Lakers in an NBA Finals, with a flickin Vladi Divac and Elden Campbell playing center!
And he did all of that in spite of losing 4 - 6 extra seasons because of the virus.

I have to give the slight edge to Kobe for 2 reasons: He was a killer on both sides of the ball, he won rings WITHOUT Hall of Famers, and he lost fewer finals games.
Magic had two HOFERs for most of his rings and only won 3 finals MVPs. But even with that help, he still lost 4 finals and got swept in 2 of them. Kobe had Shaq and that was enough to win 3 rings straight. But with just Pau Gasol and Lamar Odom, he made the finals 3 straight times and won 2 back to back.

What is this guy talking about Orlando didn't value Shaq? Someone needs to explain to this young guy how the 90's NBA worked. The salary cap was new. I believe it was around 25 million dollars per team at the time Shaq was a free agent but it was broken. It had no cap on player salaries. So you had one guy on some teams eating almost all of the cap to himself. This is why the 90's had so many one star teams. Because you could earn a tone more as the lone star. Problem was Orlando drafted Penny one year after Shaq and that meant they'd have another superstar to pay a year later. So they wanted Shaq to take less so they they could pay Penny too. Stockton and Malone did this. Payton and Kemp did this. Shaq was like nah I want what Ewing is getting. So they tried to call his bluff and once LA got involved they actually relented and offered him everything he wanted but it was too late. This was a 24 year old who was already on the 50th anniversary list and an unrestricted free agent. Any team in the league would have taken him but 90% of them couldn't. The only teams who could afford him were the teams that didn't have any superstars. LA traded Divac to Charlotte for Kobe and then they could afford to pay Shaq. That's what happened. It had nothing to do with Orlando not valuing Shaq 🤣

Magic did not win without Kareem.
Kobe won without Shaq ( 2x times three straight finals)
Shaq won without Kobe (1time. Never made it back to the finals)
If you make the argument "Kobe played with Shaq" then by default you have to make the argument Magic played with Kareem
