The Qatari trying to justify the 6,500 deaths is the most ridiculous thing in Gary Neville's "documentary". Whether the workers died on site or in the bunker with a heart attack, 6,500 dead people is still a mind-boggling amount. There's no spin you can put in it to make it sound better.

Gary Neville is out there, making bold political statements about society at large and football governance, rubbing shoulders with no less than Sir Keir Starmer and the rest of the Labour Party, of which he is now a member, then he jumps into BeIn Sports as a pundit, with no regard to his personal integrity.
He talks of wages of the average worker and of strikes for those who work in keeping our fragile national infrastructure together.
He's the exact same as the people he holds to account. If he had a shred of morality as he purports to have, he'd quietly leave this role.
    He won't.

So at what yearly income do you have to change your moral and political beliefs? This is just the same stupid “well if you don’t agree with everything in society then you should just not take part in it” argument, it doesn’t make sense
Neville is hardly a radical, but in his video I was impressed with the way he challenged the private companies that are exploiting the Qatari workers just the same way as the state is doing, that is raising a good point. That it’s just as much a problem with the Qatari government as it is with the corporations that exploit cheap labor everywhere around the world
Currently this is a very difficult place to be ethical in

Watching the World Cup certainly is up for debate and is the only thing that will make a real difference as it impacts fifas pockets directly.
It’s tough and I probably will watch it because I love football especially World Cup football where you see players from Central America Asia and Africa that you’ve never seen before and could get huge moves from it and everything else that comes with it.

It’s so nuanced to look at human rights in the Middle East and you’ve done an excellent job in under half an hour by stating that Muslims are not homogeneous and do try risk their lives by bringing up human rights abuses consistently over the years.
Plus again highlighting the stupidness of FIFA, Neville, and other apologists of obviously toeing the official Qatari line. It’s disgusting that there are still construction workers who are considered indentured servants despite the lip service paid to Human Rights and Workers Rights by the regime.

Important conversation to have, but sadly, there isn't much we can do to change anything in Qatar or FIFA. The only thing I can think of that might actually have an effect, would be if ticket sales or viewers took a heavy fall compared to previous tournaments. I'm not encouraging any illegal activities here, but I just want to inform people that pirated streams do not profit neither Qatar nor Fifa as much as the official broadcasters do

Oh also, you could boycott all and any FIFA sponsors / WC2022 sponsors. If you were really engaged, you could write to all the companies a letter, that you stopped purchasing their products, because of their affiliation with FIFA and the WC in Qatar. Would probably take you a few minutes, and for 99.9% of people that's already too much, but if tens of thousands of these kinds of messages would arrive at Coca Cola, Hyundai, Visa and Budweiser, even global corporations would take notice.

Not all too many centuries ago, the Islamic regions of the world were much more tolerant and open than Europe at that time. To proclaim this as "culture" is just a way to deceive western audiences, who will be much more willing to overlook such things, if it's in the name of respecting other cultures, rather than what it really is, condoning and passively supporting terrible politicians and the terrible system they built.

Those David Beckham Qatar stopover advertisement videos are an absolute menace. They follow me across all platforms. Probably because the adware that tracks the sites that I visit knows that I’m interested in football and would therefore target such ads at me because I’m supposedly sure to love davy becks, because how could anyone not? Well nuts to that. Beck’s had a successful career as a professional footballer but he was a long way off being a favorite of mine during his playing days. I was thrilled when Barca signed Ronaldinho instead of him. And R10 and his successor Messi have been favorites of mine (i didn’t start following football until 2002).
And with what I’ve been consistently hearing about Qatar’s appalling human rights record there was no way I’d be taken in by those ads. I knew Qatar would have paid many millions but that figure of 150 million is genuinely shocking. Any respect i may have had for Beckham and Neville from the trophies they won as players went right out the window the moment they agreed to be bought and used as mouth pieces to sing the praises of a truly despotic regime. And as far as successful sports washing enterprises go even the UAE has been arguably more successful with CFG since they appointed Pep Guardiola and established a much better football structure that’s less about signing megastars and more about playing phenomenal football and signing the players that best suit the managers plan. As critical as I’m willing to be about the UAE and it’s own skeletons in the closet i can’t help but be impressed at the progress made in their flagship team in Manchester. PSG on the other hand have been a mess. Many megastars signed over the last decade and all they have to show for it is a disjointed team that dominates ligue une and a champions league final appearance. Now that Luis Campos is involved that will probably change from this season onwards but CFG have a big head start in the credibility stakes. Which in my estimation makes for a more successful sports washing endeavor. Qatar can take their World Cup hosting rights and insert them into an orifice of their where the sun doesn’t shine, given that they won them by blitzing the field during the bidding process by out bribing all competitors by, what was more than likely, an astonishing degree.
