Anyone else think it's weird that people who have been commanded not to make graven images wear crosses around their necks? Hang them in their churches etc?
I just imagine if Jesus was real and came to Earth: "WTF people? Why are you wearing the instrument of torture that was used to kill me around you fucking necks???"
That's the thing about the 10 commandments. In the English versions of the bible, the second commandment always is something along the lines of "Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image". HOWEVER, in the Spanish version is "thou won't take the Lord's name in vain". Makes sense because of our Holy Week, which uses tons and tons and TONS of sculptures of god, and have them parade around the city. also, our 3rd commandmend is "You'll sanctify the holy days". Nothing about sabbath there. But, if them commandments are different depending on which language you're using... how can they be universal?
The Spanish version is the Roman Catholic version. Roman Catholics (For some strange reason!) leave out the part about "graven images". They still end up with ten by splitting the one about not coveting into not coveting a neighbor's goods and wive in two. Of course, everybody, leaves out the one about not buggering children... Oh! wait.... They couldn't put that one in because then there would be more than ten. You can't expect religious people to take off their shoes every time they recite the commandments.
hisxmark Your point being? That still means there're different versions of the bible.. so what stops me from reprinting one that says that... dunno... Jesus was actually a black woman? Who decides which one is the proper bible then?

It is quite likely that they did not mean the term the way it is meant today, I cannot prove this but it makes sense to me that it was meant to safeguard against rape and cheating mainly, and all the other things we characterize as not immoral, or at least not deserving of horrific punishment, were not big concerns back in those days and weren't really considered in the making of that law.
Moses was up the mountain for 40 days, which is a long time to simply receive the stone tablets. It almost makes you wonder if he was carving them himself! Nah - it couldn't have been that - could it? If he had come back down with the tablets and said "Now I've spent a long time carving these, and this is how I want you to behave", the people might have said "Oh do you, now?!" OTOH, if he had the charisma to make them believe that he'd been up there talking to God, "who sees what you are doing, and even knows your private thoughts - and he talks to me!" - now there's street cred!
Actually the Israelites never got to see the original stone tablets that Moses brought down from the mountain because he smashed them in a fit of rage as soon as he got back and saw them worshipping the golden calf.
@@LarsPallesen Yes, that's right. He had to go back and do it all again - but revision-2 had 11 commandments, so i guess God (or possibly even Moses) had revised his thoughts in the meantime. But we don't talk about that.

On the day Moses comes down from Mount Sinai with the stone tablets containing the Ten Commandments, he discovers that the Israelites have created a golden calf. To punish the people, Moses gathers a group of men and takes the following action in the book of Exodus, Chapter 32: Then he [Moses] said to them, "This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: 'Each man strap a sword to his side. Go back and forth through the camp from one end to the other, each killing his brother and friend and neighbor.' " The Levites did as Moses commanded, and that day about three thousand of the people died. So... one minute we have God carving into stone, "Thou shalt not kill." Then the next minute we have God telling each man to strap a sword to his side and lay waste to thousands. Wouldn't you expect the almighty ruler of the universe to be slightly more consistent than this? 3,000 dead people is a lot of commandment breaking. Obviously that is a total contradiction. The reason why you find contradictions like that in the Bible is because God is imaginary.?
To be a little more accurate though, it says, apparently,or would do if it actually existed, that you should not murder. Killing for certain reasons is permissible, but murder is not. Now, in this scenario, it arguable that those 3000 were killed rather than murdered. Killed means God is off the hook. It’s about translation. “ Slave” has been translated as meaning “employee”. Put simply, this nonsense has been translated to within an inch of it’s life and no one knows what the actual document said, so they settled on the one meaning. that suits them. Which is why even Xians cannot agree what this means. If these two phrases have been misinterpreted, then my guess is that it all has.

Religion and belief in conceptual entities, divides humans into competing groups that will invariably argue, fight and kill each other's children over these unfounded beliefs. This has to stop as should the "polite tolerance" of totally implausible religious claims. It is time for us all to think. To think rationally; to think for ourselves. We must have the honesty, integrity and courage to admit when we do not know the answer and that the answers will not be found on our knees with our eyes closed.) 2. You should never elevate your cause above your humanity. (Humans can be moral without a belief in a conceptual entity.) 3. You should stop the practice of genital mutilation of our young, for religious reasons and the presentation of implausible religious claims, as absolute truth. Hide your face and weep if you dare to harm a child. 4. You should not tolerate the subjugation and mistreatment of people, particularly women, based upon ancient or religious text. 5. You should honor your father and your mother. 6. You shall not murder. 7. You shall not have sex irresponsibly, without consideration of it's consequences or without consideration for others and will insist upon safe sex practices. 8. You shall not steal or "rip people off" in the name of religion. 9. You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor. 10. You shall not covet. 11. You shall not condemn people on the basis of their ethnicity or their color. 12. You shall not condemn people for their inborn nature. (Why would God create so many homosexuals only in order to torture and destroy them?) 13. Do not ever even think of using people as private property, or as owned, or as slaves. 14. Do not imagine that you can escape judgment if you rob people with a false prospectus rather than with a knife. 15. You shall rigorously pursue a verifiable truth and develop your empathy. Be aware that you, too, are an animal, and dependent on the web of nature. Try and think and act accordingly. 16. You shall strongly oppose all and any efforts to incorporate religion into government or the military. 17. You shall wear clothes for protection, fashion or humor but not as a propitiation to a conceptual entity, the existence of which we cannot validate. 18. You shall refrain from dragging inappropriate beliefs and rituals from the past, into the present. 19. You shall recognize that cultism is a damaging and corrosive pursuit. (Human beliefs and strange rituals are learned, they are not part of human DNA. It is time to understand that that we can all get along if properly educated.) 20. You shall not present religious pseudoscience as education. 21. That "let's keep it for another version" line is actually accurate in the bible. The tablets which are referred to as "The Ten Commandments" in the bible are not the ones some people think they are. Moses supposedly went up to Mt. Sinai to record the commandments as God dictated. He comes down the mountain to find the group he was with engaged in antics and becomes angry, throwing the tablets to the ground and smashing them. Moses then goes back up the mountain to record a new set of commandments and these are the ones which are referred to as "The Ten Commandments". You might find this "revised" version to be even less divinely inspired than the first ones. ;)

3/10 is being extremely generous. That number six thing boils down to, "Killing is wrong... except when it isn't. See you local secular legal text for details." Same for "stealing", which is defined as "taking stuff from people illegally", where "legality" is defined, once again, by us humans. Surprise!
I find it so hard to believe that at out all the detailed commandments and sins God said not to commit, God couldn't directly condemn pedophilia. Instead, I see Christians trying to stretch verses and say that when God says to love all, pedophilia is condemned under that umbrella term of love. So let's remember everyone: God can take the time to list all sexual sins except for pedophilia. Also, God can tell you in full detail how to build an ark, how to build an altar, which offerings to use- he'll also set you on fire if you use the wrong offering (Leviticus 10)- and which type of animals they can and can't eat...... but God cannot afford to waste time telling grown men and women not to groom 6 year olds. But somehow, eah=ch and every Christian is supposed to know that they CAN'T do that lmaooo
Leviticus 18:22 KJV “Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination.” the word “mankind” in this verse is translated from the hebrew word זכר (H2145 in strong’s concordance) which can mean Men or child (or both as in man-child as in a male child) depending on context. Considering that the practice of homosexuality in ancient times was almost always between a grown man and prepubescent boy (pederasty) its not far fetched at all to say that this can just apply to both men and children as the same word is translated simply to children in many other instances in the Bible. So as a christian to be safe as to not commit a sin, probably dont commit p*****illia. But wait a second! pederasty was actually common practice among the greeks and even romans, a people who western society actually DOES base their society on. So if they thought it was okay then what makes you think cultures wont shift again like they have been doing constantly since the beginning of mankind. This is the true uselessness of trying to do a penis measuring contest of morality with scripture that is thousands of years old. One is ever changing and based on cultural ideals, and one claims to be the objective truth and must stand on that claim being as it has been written and cannot be changed. Even christians are guilty of being self-righteous as many will tell you that polygyny is a sin even though it says that no where in the Bible and even David’s wives were given to him by God. Just because your opinion doesn’t align with ancient words doesn’t make it immoral, it just makes you arrogant.

Funny how virtually all societies - independently from the 10 commandments - came up with "don't murder", "don't steal" and "speak the truth in court". They're no-brainers.
A theist would argue that them being no-brainers is because of their god
A society that encourages or doesn’t punish those things won’t be sustainable
@pagjimaagjinen9733 that'd be a better argument than "book says so and book is truth"

Meaning of life... if there's any meaning to it, it's lost to me. The only thing I can say is that we strive to survive and with in that attempt to survive, we learn and adapt.
Religion doesn't allow for that with its assertions of a deity and the false idea that with out God, we're nothing.

But, if them commandments are different depending on which language you're using... how can they be universal?
ha, see? all it takes to understand the truth is to speak two languages. Do you understand now why faith hates education? :)
Ans since the bible would say it, then it'd have to be true, right? Isn't that the most common christian fanatic argument? Oh, right. wouldn't be the proper bible... An ancient hebrew word was translated to greek/latin/who-knows what-else and then made its way into middle english and then into modern version of the language.

On the day Moses comes down from Mount Sinai with the stone tablets containing the Ten Commandments, he discovers that the Israelites have created a golden calf. To punish the people, Moses gathers a group of men and takes the following action in the book of Exodus, Chapter 32:
Then he [Moses] said to them, "This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: 'Each man strap a sword to his side.
That's why they're called: "The ten friendly proposals intended for those times in between the more serious issues".
God killed many people according to the Bible. Satan did not kill anybody.
It’s not “”murder”” if god does it 😒

You might find this "revised" version to be even less divinely inspired than the first ones. ;)

I actually had a friend who made the whole “without the commandments we wouldn’t have morals because one of the commandments is thou shalt not murder” argument. It isn’t really relevant but he was also okay with giving kids access to NSFW over discord, could act as a peek into how educated he was on morals :/
3/10 is being extremely generous. That number six thing boils down to, "Killing is wrong... except when it isn't. See you local secular legal text for details." Same for "stealing", which is defined as "taking stuff from people illegally", where "legality" is defined, once again, by us humans. Surprise!
love your work. should be required watching for all...anything to save the world from these death cults.
It's tricky...
@@NonStampCollector Can't believe I used to believe in the Bible wholeheartedly

Thank you so much, I just discovered your videos this week and I love it. It's so funny and I learn so much. I was a bit scared you were overdoing the humour, but when I google the sources and read those parts, I am shocked. Your videos are on point, sadly I am almost done with each video... But thank you!!! ❤
Everyone will reap what they sow and none will be able to escape it
i hadnt noticed the Apple logo on Mose's 'tablet'.. Pure genius. :)
No law against rape...child abuse...slavery...????and they base their morality on....?????😫😫😫
Luke 12:47 The servant who knows the master's will and does not get ready or does not do what the master wants will be beaten with many blows.
Exodus 21:20 “Anyone who beats their male or female slave with a rod must be punished if the slave dies as a direct result, 21 but they are not to be punished if the slave recovers after a day or two, since the slave is their property.
If a man sells his daughter as a servant, she is not to go free as male servants do. If she does not please the master who has selected her for himself,[a] he must let her be redeemed. He has no right to sell her to foreigners, because he has broken faith with her. 9 If he selects her for his son, he must grant her the rights of a daughter. 10 If he marries another woman, he must not deprive the first one of her food, clothing and marital rights.(A) 11 If he does not provide her with these three things, she is to go free, without any payment of money.
Laws of Rape per Deuteronomy 22:28-29 NAB, death sentence to rape victims Deuteronomy 22:23-24 NAB, Jesus/Yahweh allowing selling YOUR OWN daughter as a sex slave Exodus 21:7-11 NLT

"Do you think my problem with graven images is some sort of arbitrary whim, or something. I frigging hate graven images, man!" I especially like that God's head turns completely red. Great!
As a social worker I was bound by the values of my profession to treat all people, regardless of race, colour, creed, sexuality, disability, etc, with equal dignity and respect, to recognise the rights of the individual, to value diversity, and to oppose discrimination and oppression by those in authority.
this guy is brilliant. the whole series should be shown to all religious people
I'm sure even packs of wolves have those quintessential rules like no murder among your kin lmao.
