Is the 2019 Subaru Legacy 2.5i a SERIOUS sedan CONTENDER?

  • The Subaru Legacy 2.5i Sport continues it's tradition of offering a balance of style, safety, and that boxer engine under the hood. The Legacy Sport has a naturally aspirated flat-4 that produces 175 HP mated to a CVT transmission. Does the 2019 Subaru Legacy 2.5i Sport have enough to help it stand out in the SUV crowd?

      @Y10Q 5 ปีที่แล้ว

thats not how they do things. They like to saturate the market with all kinds of different types and versions over the years, to keep the value of the used cars up. This is why people either will not sell their used Spec B or if they do, they price em like gold and whoever buys, and they do buy em, usually makes the car almost new like. Engine rebuild, new interior stuff like that. Because there are no new ones. Subaru know what they got. Not many cars ride like Spec B or STi or any of the other specialty models they put out. Baja. Older Jeep Wranglers are the same way. It is a machine with special value to it. BMW 8 series capable of 180mph, Corvette same. Older Nissan Z. They don't just put out appliances that fade out. These cars are on the road 25 years, well unless you use em in a rust belt. Nothing in that area lasts 4 years.

We’ll never see this car in Belgium. A Subaru in Belgium is a rare sight because people don’t know how good en reliable these cars are. They prefere digging deep in their pockets to buy a BMW, Audi, Mercedes and Volvo just for prestige and showing off. Well, it’s their loss...
In 2009 I bought a second hand Subaru Legacy Mk4 Touring Wagon My2007, 2ltr 4cyl. non turbo, 165hp, 5 speed manual) and I love it! The roadholding of this car is phenominal. What I also like on this car is the absence of any so called “electronic driver aid gimmicks”. I don’t need these things. When I drive I have full controle of my car and I don’t need a computer to tell me what to do. (I apologise for any grammatical errors)

If I was looking for a sedan I would definitely buy a Legacy but most likely with a 6 cylinder engine. I wanted the extra storage space so I bought a 2019 6 cylinder Subaru Outback and I love it. I think the Legacy and Outback are basically the same except for storage space and thus far I have no complaints about the CVT in my Outback but would prefer it to be a 6-8 speed gear transmission. The CVT does seem to be plenty strong enough but I'm not sure about the long term reliability of it. Both the 4 and 6 cylinder engines are naturally aspirated port fuel injected which I would much rather have than a direct fuel injected engine due to carbon build up. Thank you for another excellent video! 😎👍

I have had a Subaru forester 1997 (automatic) from new, that has been great for all the years with very little to do other than annual services. However, recently I have had a lot of vibration & shuddering on the wheels when making tight turns (left or right). It is difficult to identify which wheels the noise or shudder comes from and I don't feel much through the steering wheel. I have had all difs replace that has reduced the frequency but not always. We hope it isn't the automatic gear box but has anyone got any ideas what to do next.

    I have a 2017 Legacy with the 2.5.
It is super slow, drives a bit like a boat, and I am looking forward to my lease ending and moving into a warmish/hot hatch.
Anyone who thinks the 3.6 is the cure for the performance of this sedan needs to know that the CVT is not a sporty transmission and the car is still slow off the line. If you want to get going from a stop, get a WRX instead or shop a different manufacturer.
Body roll is mediocre, you need to upgrade the rear sway bar to keep it under control.
The infotainment hopefully is better now that they offer CarPlay, in the 2017 it is mediocre.
And the seats are comfortable, but lack any bolstering to keep you from sliding left to right, feels like a bench seat.
Subarus are awesome in the snow, and Eyesight is very good, though it has its limitations. The cameras often lose vision in snow or heavy rain, so when you might want those safety systems active (lower visibility) it shuts down. Maybe the radar systems have better function in inclement weather?
Overall, the car isn't the worst pick, but unless you need AWD you can get a better performing sedan for less $$.
I bought this one for Eyesight, mainly, and don't regret that, but these safety systems are now much more common in more models (for example, all or almost all toyotas, and now available from most manufacturers). At the time I bought my Subie they were only really offered by a few manufacturers and only in top trims. FWIW the stop/start ACC is great and I use it all the time in my suburban commute, so ignore the owners manual telling you not to rely on it.
I will enjoy my new Mazda3 or Elantra GT N-Line this summer. For now I will take advantage of the AWD.

I'm still driving a 99 Legacy as my beater car and I have no thoughts of getting rid of it anytime soon. I really like the looks of this car and they've improved their interiors which were always sort of bland. Like others have said, the power and CVT makes the car a little less appealing to me. Can't help but to think how awesome this car would look with the hood scoop if Subaru still offered the GT trim. I suppose if you're the type that's not concerned about quickness then this would be a great car to own.

Yes, the flat engine does sit low. Its the same engine I have in my 2008 Legacy. But now these low sitting engines no longer translates into better visibility anymore. You can see when the hood was up the engine bay sides of the fenders are now propped up higher so the hood will sit higher when its closed. This is because of pedestrian safety regulations. Now its no easier seeing out the front of this car then any other sedan now. And yes some of the models were "funky" back in the 06/07 models, but that's what made them special. Most sedans look too much alike now.

I totally agree with those zonks that you pointed out but being the sports package, Subaru needs to cut back on the frills to keep the cost of the car down
the single tailpipe if you zoom in at 4:29 is actually just a fake chrome tip. That is an instant disgust to me. Ew!
The previous gen of Legacy GT which are the flat 4 turbo units have actual tailpipes but the stock units are restrictive, many owners will opt to swap them for axle back tin cans for the louder boxer rumble.
When I open up my Crosstrek, although the engine bay isnt clutered, it just feels boring to me with all the sea of black plastic parts esp the intake plenum. Def missed the good old Forester Turbo with the red STi intake plenum and intercooler that we upgraded.
The zonk with the cloth interior is kinda fixed with the Limited trim which is a full leather trim on the seats and doors for an extra $3000 on top of the MSRP of the Sports.
The metal pedals are a $140 option believe it or not, thou the pedals are STi branded pieces.
Prob the reason why we still love the Forester/Crosstrek is the huge boot space.
I can carry tons of Ikea flat boxes in the boot and no issues with long boxes as well with the split 40 : 60 seating.

Subaru went cheap by adding the plastic bits both front and back.
If you have a look at the earlier model 7th gen the front and back were body coloured and no plastic bits added. Also the exhaust tip was much more nicer and round.

Handling is beautiful, but for the money I think the Honda Accord feels much more expensive inside and handles a little better, with much better acceleration. The only reason for choosing a Legacy, IMO, is if you need AWD.

I went on a 2 hour car ride in this and I was sitting in the middle back seat. I used to hate Subaru, but this car actually changed my mind. It's a great car, great infotainment system, Waze on this was amazing but my butt was hurting in the back and my friend sitting next to me said his was too. Everything on this car is great, except there is no AC in the back, not good for long rides.
But I would not buy this car, sorry not sorry.

Look at the other sedans in this price range. They are all around that same HP. It’s a great ride and plenty of power for daily driving and everyone’s commute.
Also the AWD transmission leach out a lot of HP, that same engine in a RWD or FWD will do 10-15% more power but you’ll lose the benefits of the AWD which is NOT worth it.
