This phone is definitely for people who want to significantly change their lifestyle, and I think it's pretty awesome for that. I've been using mine full time for a few months (after a few failed starts switching from an iPhone) and I love it so much. I'm so much calmer now without constant input from my iPhone. And this is a great review! I think everything you said was accurate. At first I didn't think I could deal with the downsides, but I adjusted and now the pros outweigh the cons for me. It helps to realize that we lived without smart phones before 2007 (and most of us later than that) and we were just fine.

Absolutely that helps to put it in perspective! I think the swap can be done. It would just take a lot of getting used to doing without all these crazy features that have built up in our phones over the years!

The battery is listed at 950 mAh, nearly 100 mAh smaller than my iPod touch 7th gen. That’s simply way too small. Just leaving it on searching for a signal drains it as experienced, 2 days tops. Shame, even a minimal increase would have made a big difference.

I've been using mine for a year and a half and have enjoyed it immensely. It's really changed my life. Ironic to say that 'if you want to use your phone less, get this' but it is true. That's what taking back your life involves (as their motto suggests). Good stuff man.

I got a Light Phone 2 back a few years ago and absolutely LOVED it! It rocked my world and changed my life for the better. I was able to enjoy television shows again. Talk with friends. Be present with family. Then I got sick - don't get mono if you're over 50 - and "had" to go back to a smartphone for doctors, insurance, blah blah blah. We gave the Light Phone 2 to the kids for our "house phone" and so they could text friends or whatever. They LOVE it. They have never had, nor do they want, a "schmart phone" so it's perfect.
Anyway, now I'm about to order a second Light Phone 2 for myself again. I'm all better and I miss not having this inane distraction all the time. (I will keep my smart phone as my camera.)

A few years ago I used Light Phone II for Lent (40 days). At first I was frustrated with how slow texting was, but by the end of Lent I realised I was just calling my friends more. However, it doesn't support wifi calling, which I think is a necessity. I lived in NYC at the time I used the phone and where I worked had bad T-Mobile service, meaning I couldn't call while at work.
I am the kind of person who could make the switch, especially because I now have a work iPhone (tho it's locked down to only Apple apps + work apps, and it's heavily monitored (can't sign into iCloud, use iMessage, etc...), but that does mean I could still use it for directions and the Amtrak app (I ride Amtrak daily for my commute). If the Light Phone had better battery life and wifi calling, I'd buy it again.

My thinking is an iPad/Light Phone Combo would be how I function. It’ll take some work getting my blue bubble chats over to email over my phone number. But I can see that being a decent combo for the times that I “need” apps. I tried the Apple Watch with cellular as a minimalist phone but my new job is in a building that just has terrible service.
I have expressed this desire to go dumber on my phone to my family and over Christmas they got me a Garmin GPS for navigation and a fairly decent point and shoot camera so at least those two needs are met.

Little cameo in there from me ;) lol okay serious now.
I'm 100% behind this review, I think it's a great non-emergency phone and the phone is perfect for someone who doesn't need all the interaction on a daily basis. If you're a spy and need a phone, this is it. I do wish there was an ability to mirror a device to a dumb phone so that you don't have to have a whole separate number. The barrier to entry for this device might just be too great for me. I've already done so much work on getting my phone as distraction free as possible, but going this far might not be the way to go.
I'm always interested in hearing how people react to the E-ink displays, because that's one reason I don't even own a kindle device (although my wife does), I just didn't like how it felt so slow and unresponsive at times. I think one thing that could make all these dumb phones better is a camera, I can't go anywhere without some type of camera, if I'm going to have an alternative device, I feel like I need a camera to capture memories and experiences, especially with my family.

If on the other hand you're talking of voicemail, there's a small symbol left on screen which indicates that you need to dial your voicemail number in order to retrieve your messages. I hope that this answers your question.@@jenniferjacques4971

Do you think the reason typing on the Light Phone is such a pain because of the inherent lag of e-ink displays? Back in the dumb phone era I was texting almost as quickly as with a smart phone using the T9 interface, so the only reason I can think that a full keyboard would result in such an inferior typing experience is either due to lack of physical buttons or e-ink display lag.

That's what I did a year ago from an iPhone 14. I'm 33 and remember high school without a cell phone. It has been amazing returning to this way of life. If you're gonna go this route though, it seems like theres no middle ground: cheap flips and lightphone both seem to be horribly slow, laggy, terrible button bounce issues on the flip phones, a screen with a total of 9 pixels, group texts slow the phone to a crawl, etc. It sure is effective at making you not use the thing, though lol. Slow down there baby boomer, the phone is a "dumb" phone with reduced features, logically this should mean that the few features it can do - it does amazing. This is NOT the case. If it types like absolute garbage and feels clunky to use at the price point of a high end 2nd hand phone it should be competing in SOME fashion.. But it doesn't.. there is absolutely nothing this phone can do that a regular phone with some minimalist apps installed can't do.
I love the design, I WANT to want it, but its comments like yours that make me realise the only benefit for a phone like that is we don't have to read moronic comments like yours.

@@bravestarr19 I provide genuine problems with an overpriced product that can't deliver on its few functions - you - an idiotic baby boomer who will never buy this phone - decide to try use this as a platform for your nonsensical tirades, of which uniorinically - people who you're screaming at will never see. People don't care what you have to say, the irony being you have zero patience, yet too much time. Shown by the fact you can't provide marketable reasons why the phones flaws are perks.

What advice would you guys give someone who's trying to make the transition to a dumb phone? Especially knowing how society has made having a smartphone almost a necessity. Certain jobs require that you have one even if they don't directly say it to you.

Minimize your smart phone as much as possible first. You may find that is enough! Other than that, it’s a jump, really. We’re all trying to figure it out! 😂
