NFC chip is for digital wallets like Apple & Google Pay. I believe the same technology is used for tapping cards instead of inserting into chip readers.
I like the NFC idea because I’ve been using Apple Pay a lot because I don’t have to take out my credit card to make purchases, which keeps my cc secured. I also like the fingerprint button, it makes it easy to verify who you are like Apple Pay requires your face or a passcode to verify who you are. I prefer my iPad for making purchases because the fingerprint is so much nicer to use in my opinion. I hope they get the nfc running right away because I use it for groceries and gas as well as online shopping. I am looking forward to lightphone 3, I preordered it and I am excited to have a useful tool focussed more on tools than social media.
Pre-Ordered! my first light phone! im gonna try and slowly move everything over to my tablet to get used to digital minimalism and spend loads of time with my son!
That's so awesome man! I believe that there is almost no greater gift you can give your children than that of your loving presence. Best wishes to you and your family, dear friend.
I agree with you a bit on front facing camera and fingerprint scanner. However, they said the front-facing camera won't be used for selfies at all (Joe was adamant haha).
3:43 The Light Phone creators talked about the ability to use the usb-c port as the headphone port. While a small adapter may be needed, wired headphones are still usable with the Light Phone III
Yea I recently saw that too. I'm glad they decided to give us the option, though I still think it would be nice to have a designated port so you don't have to purchase an adapter. But, that's just me. 🤷♂️
@@burntheboxes Yeah people also complained a lot about the same thing with the Fairphone 4, but I think the critics settled over time as the adapter is not a huge investment and can be left with the headphones when not used.
If this gets WhatsApp, and two factor with the fingerprint for bank apps, similar to Face Id for iOS, i'm jumping. But I need the possibility of using WhatsApp
I know they're talking about the possibility of supporting WhatsApp, because that's been a major drawback for many with previous models, but nothing has been finalized.
For me this was my first thoughts but: now I run what's app via android engine at my MacBook and I get online in the evening for my family to share the news with the grandparents and the family ground chats! And it works!!!! When someone need to contact you by day: SMS or quick call and ALL the other things can totally run in the evening 👌🏼👌🏼👍🏼 you will see: the most is not so important as you think 🙌🏼
I want a Light Phone 2.5. III has better hardware features, but I don't like the fingerprint capability or forward-facing camera. This might be a really stupid question but does the Light Phone connect to the internet? It obviously connects to a cell tower, but specifically, can it connect to wifi and the internet? And what about battery life: from full charge to 0%, how much time does that take? (for II and III) (The sensor is probably there for automatic screen brightness adjustment. I know Apple does that.)
Right, I feel the same way. It's almost like they went from 0 to 60 without any time in between. But, I understand the demographic they're trying to reach. Yes and no. These phones can connect to wifi but not to the internet (such as web browsers). "The battery life of the Light Phone II is approximately 1-2 days of 'light' regular usage." That's what the devs say on the website, and I would say that's pretty accurate from experience. I'm not sure what the battery life will look like on the III, but I do know the battery itself will be bigger due to the feature upgrades, so I assume it will weigh itself out to about the same. Here's the link to their FAQs page if you want it: www.thelightphone.com/faq Ah yes, you're right about the sensor. I forgot the II has that as well. I turned off that feature just a few weeks in 'cause I found it annoying lol, and it's been so long I forgot it existed. Good observation.
@burntheboxes but, there has to be a middle ground because it's increasingly becoming more difficult to live with "just a phone that does phone calls and texts" as even like my apartment laundry uses QR codes at this point. And people are crying foul but dammit my family and friends send photos all the time over text and I'd like to be able to look at them
Great job, Chase! If and when my old phone finally bites the dust, I may be the owner of the 2, but I am not at all interested in the 3. Seems to be inching closer and closer to same ole, same ole. Plus, watching how it has been such a great blessing to you, makes it that much more inticing.
NFC is for wireless payments mosltly, you can also read nfc badges and cards, like door/appartment access cards etc Also 400$ dollars is pure insanity for such a simple device. I'm not the target customer, I like smartphones tbh
I totally agree with you about the price. @CropdusterMiller pointed out the sheer cost of producing it would be around $400 because of the body's material, extra bands, battery upgrades, etc. Honestly I think they could sell so much more if they cut a lot of those extra "frills" to lower the retail price. Besides, for the most part, the target demographic doesn't want that stuff. The whole point is to get away from the smartphone altogether, not a mere lesser version of what they already have. Thanks for the comment friend! Hope to see you around.
Excellent review💯👍💯 And I've never heard of Light Phone at all. My first "smartphone", back in 2012, was a Nokia 800 Pureview. And that because of the good camera. I still use it for filming. - I could well have managed with a Light Phone, because I only use the mobile phone to make calls, e-mail and listen to Christian podcasts. And as you may have guessed Chase.... I'm almost exclusively on TH-cam on the weekends... as the only media I participate in.
Thanks brother! Haha, sounds like you've been living light longer than "living light" has been around! I wish I could say the same, but better late than never I suppose.😄 Glad you're on TH-cam though, or else I wouldn't have met you! May Yahweh be with you my friend.
Sweet video! I would recommend turning the sound effects down, they distract from what you're saying. Also, on the intro, the writing sound effect is only in the left ear, which is a weird feeling. Thought you might want some recommendations 👍
Pre ordered mine as soon as I heard about it! 🔥 And about the headphone jack, I saw one of their FAQ answers on their website mentioned you can use the USB-C port to connect wired USB-C headphones - so seems like people will just have to get a new USB-C headset instead of using their AUX ones if they want to use wired (I'm one of them)
Nice man! I did hear about the USB-C headphone thing, which even though it is still a pain to have to buy new headphones, it's definitely better than nothing. I hope you enjoy the new phone!✌️
I live in a country where the Light Phone II doesn't work, so I got kinda excited for the Light Phone III, which will work, but I really don't want or need the camera or the fingerprint sensor. Wish they skipped those to keep costs down. Same with the side wheel, which seems like it'll be prone to break when dropped. I also wish they stuck with the e-ink. At the preorder price, I'm kind of on the fence, but at the full price, I think I'm out. Not sure I'll make a decision before the intro pricing ends, which will probably wind up making the decision for me.
100% agree with you. I know a lot of people are looking forward to the III, but I do wish they would have put effort into making an international version of the II first, because there's still quite a large demographic that just wants the basics of the II, but they are kinda forced to buy the highly sophisticated III or nothing at all. :/ Who knows, maybe that'll be their next project. Thanks for watching! :)
Will messages have RCS support? Android phones have it and the light phone essentially runs a stripped down version of Android and now even apple allows RCS. Please let me know!
As of now the devs say they are looking into it, but it is not yet confirmed. The phone is still early in development, so it's hard to say what will and won't be supported. If you are interested, Jose Briones did an interview not too long ago with Kai and Joe (the devs), and they go into great detail about the phone and its development so far. Here's the link: th-cam.com/video/IEaZ-UfX7Ig/w-d-xo.html Hope that helps! :)
I have pre ordered the lp3 I also will not be getting rid of my lp2 Nope I have a smart phone ... My wife insists on it. however I keep it at home like a house phone and never take it any further. I would love to have them add a text to speech/e book reader, and or a micro sd slot for book/ music/ music extra storage. or even storing favorite podcasts. But as far as the nfc, cam, vid call thing I will just really not use them lest it is a dire document a situation kind of event. Being Visually impaired that is why I would love the audio additions. but as for now I use a magnifier for the text and voice to text to send the messages. So I am jolly chuffed with the lp 2 all around.

Ohhhh. Makes sense. I was so confused.😂 Thanks for that!
That probably is why there's a finger print scanner then.

For a dude with 322 subscribers this is a very high quality video. Nice work!
Appreciate that! :)
I like chilled, young dudes telling me about stuff I don't understand.🙂
I use the same light phone ring tone, when your phone started ringing I started trying to find my light phone lol
Haha, that's awesome. It's definitely the best one imo ;)
I have already ordered one. Only a few things I might need so I don't have to have a second phone for work
I agree with you a bit on front facing camera and fingerprint scanner. However, they said the front-facing camera won't be used for selfies at all (Joe was adamant haha).
Oh well that's good! I didn't notice that during the interview.

probably never gonna happen my friend
Spot on!!!
Its not getting the internet (really) and I can’t see Meta ever being motivated to build whatsapp for it.
Solid video Chase. I second the affirmation that you have a good editing style. it seems we have the same ringtone too, haha.
Thanks man! Haha I'm glad I'm not the only one. The ringtone was just too groovy to pass up.😂
I love your editing style Chase! I can tell you put a lot of time in your videos!
Thanks so much brother! :)

If you look at the specs the MM width of the device its wider than iPhone 13 mini by a bit so it will be good for typing on

I thought light phone 3 won't have e-ink display.🤔
It won't unfortunately. :/
Will the light phone lll have either Uber or Lyft?
According to Tang (Light CEO and dev), it is definitely something they are looking into, but nothing has been finalized. :)
Is light phone a public company?
No, it's private.
