My issue with any type of tote bag is it places an uneven load on your body, even a small off-balance creates compound posture issues that turn into severe back pain when we get older. Unless you are doing tons of yoga and Alexander Technique every day, a backpack is the way to go.
This is a good point. Back pain is no joke. I messed up mine years ago by sleeping on a terrible futon. Carrying heavy shoulder bags (filled with books since I'm a geek) did not help. Now I have to be so careful to avoid an "episode."
I love the 5th & 6th gen iPods. Been using them since they came out. I’ve fixed up several of them. The battery, headphone jack and hard drive are fairly easy to replace. Honestly the hardest part is just removing the back without breaking or bending anything. The clips don’t let go easily. And speaking of making your own stuff, I used a recipe to make an easy screen clean spray liquid and it works so well, I’m using it for everything - just vinegar, distilled water and a little alcohol. Cheap and nontoxic.
Great video! A word of caution: people can fairly easily replicate your keys via 3D printing just from a still image from a video. I would consider reuploading this video with blurred keys or cut the section entirely for your own safety. This might be why other EDC showcases don’t show their keys 😬
im surprised that ipods are getting expensive now, because ppl are literally throwing them away. have fished out a bunch of 5th gens from scrap at work and am in the process of refurbing them. its usually the battery that goes first. or the drive if you drop it a lot
The backpack is also a good choice! I have an LL Bean Rucksack that I wear a lot when I’m travelling, it’s my next go-to bag. Glad to hear you’re part of the paper book gang 📖
I stopped carrying regular handbags years ago; now, I carry two reusable bags doubled up together instead. Most people wouldn’t think there was anything valuable in it and, having a double bag comes in handy sometimes when I’m food shopping!
As a kid in the 2010s, I grew up on an iPod touch before getting an actual iPhone for mobile gaming. Although that’s not really so prevalent nowadays, it seems that many businesses would rather you earn points to earn promotions through their app rather than offer out coupon books like back in those old days. Since most those places offer free public Wi-Fi, it’s aplenty considering those apps typically require you to be at the store to redeem any of the promotions anyways.
I feel like even in the current age of smartphones, we are still in a time where its like "yes, your smartphone CAN do everything but not enough to do them professionally or so well that you'd wanna replace everything with it" Cameras, Gaming, Editing photos or video, 3d modeling? pretty much everything on smartphones are limited heavily, and I think we as a human race like working on laptops and actual computers more anyway. If I had to use my smartphone for everything I think I would actually be living in hell. also, I love these videos cuz you see what people value alot. I value gaming when im bored so I bring around a DS Lite with me, you value music and books so you bring a dedicated mp3 player and a book, I think the things people carry other than the basic keys wallet and phone really show one's personality and interests, maybe even more then people could say about themselves.
Not all iPods are super expensive. You can find plenty of used iPods with new battery on eBay for under $100 many under $50. A 16GB iPod touch 1st gen can be had for $23. iPod classic 5th gen 30GB for $60 and I personally bought an iPod nano 2nd gen 8GB for $49 that I use at work. I also have a 5th gen iPod nano that stays in my car. One day I will spend a couple hundred and buy a rebuilt 7th gen iPod classic with flash storage and a giant battery but for now the nanos are fine.
Your thoughts on the Cat S22 flip are the same as mine. I remember commenting about it on a video of yours a few months ago. Glad you like the phone as I do as well, I think its a great solution for people who want a dumb phone but need smart features.
@@spencers-adventures I have to look into it. Never heard of this before! I am so sick of my phone I can't even tell you. If I could drop it in the ocean, I would. But ongoing family health situations make it a necessity. That's just life.
Spencer, I have that same iPod too (120GB). I need to buy a pair of wired headphones now. I have no way to listen to it. LOL Thanks for the reminder. Cheers, Ian.
If it's worth it (though it would be an additional purchase/gadget, there are bluetooth dongles you can plug into the iPod and then use wireless headphones with.
My next "dumb" phone will likely be the Jelly 2, I love how tiny it is and I can't imagine getting sucked into youtube shorts that way. I don't agree with the pricing, but the time it could save me will be will worth it.
a note for keys, if you have a car and have a heavy key chain ,in time the weight will wear out the ignition, and thats expensive to replace, a mechanic told me
@@spencers-adventures I loved that you said that. I thought I was the only one on the planet who loves that. The more keys, the more important you are! That's how I always thought of it. Though I'm sure if I actually HAD to carry a giant thing like that I would hate it in about 5 minutes, LOL!
Loved this one Spencer, always fascinating to hear about what folk own. It was the water bottle that piqued my interest here; an awesome curiosity. Our workplace doesn’t have any cups / mugs so a water bottle is imperative. I’m considering getting a dumb phone just for work calls; otherwise I can easily get sucked into work emails and it’s not always great for one’s mental health. By keeping emails confined to my laptop and calls on a dumb phone I’m hoping it will keep things in order. Have a fantastic weekend!
I’m happy to see people are loving the water bottle! I haven’t seen many little bottles like this and I love mine. I have the bottle hooked to my belt as I type! The dumbphone is really helpful for avoiding that “suck in” effect that smart tech has for sure - there are ways to do that without a dumbphone but it’s certainly easier with it 👍thanks buddy talk soon!
I have thought about this idea before, and I would also say that I am trying to live a simple life, and that’s a work in progress. It may seem simple to carry and all-in-one smart-device, but these devices make our lives anything but simple. These simple items allow me to use them for their intended purpose and nothing but. Would you say our lives are more simple than someone decades ago when these smart devices didn’t exist?
@stroll-to-nowhereit's essentially just compartmentalization for your focus. You wouldn't want to be studying or working on the same computer you have all your games, movies, and social media linked on. Distractions are always present when you have access to everything. I enjoy the multipurpose aspect of smartphones but a dedicated device keeps you engaged with just that single function.
Hey Spencer! First of all, I love your content. However, sometimes I think that for some people, going to this extreme could be a way to try to fill a void by buying new things. In this video, you mentioned a dumb phone (an expensive one-why buy a Punkt when you can get a cheaper alternative with a 4G connection?), a pocket notebook and pen, an iPod (or music player), and physical books. All these tasks can be accomplished with a smartphone, and if you enjoy high-resolution music, a Tidal subscription works just fine. For reading, if you don't wanna use your phone, a Kindle is far more convenient. I'm not saying that this applies to you, but for many, it might. Instead of addressing their problems, they purchase items hoping they will provide solutions. It's similar to productivity apps: watching countless videos and trying different apps to "feel productive" instead of actually working. Just my thoughts, what do you think?
Fair perspective i feel. Thanks. Its the never ending search for completion. I've noticed the same with myself. I have lived reasonably minimist for 10 years. Man this is so fun. I switched from an iPhone max to a flip phone recently I LOVE the tiny bottle I’ll definitely be on the lookout I don’t like my heavy canteen it’s a pain to carry
Great video. I also Cary my iPod classic that is loaded with music and also radio plays like Suspense, Mystery Theatre, and many more. I love the water bottle and typically do not drink enough, so if I can find one of those, I’m going to get it. Thank you ☺️
Keep your eyes peeled at the thrift stores, that water bottle is fairly common. And I love the radio plays! I have a few episodes of Dragnet saved and really enjoy listening to 👍
I actually really like what you did with the bottle. Smart! I used to have this big 768ml bottle I carried every day for school. It did the job, but God forbid it falls... Everything just leaks out. Definitely gonna copy that idea even if I don't go to school anymore. I also started carrying an iPod nano 7th gen and IEMs. So much better than using my phone and wireless earbuds.
I missed the entire iPod era. Never could afford one. When I learned the Classic was no longer being made I nearly cried. I knew however many there were still floating out there would now cost way more than I would ever be able to afford. So I will never have one. I can't stand music on my phone. And I hate those other music players that don't have any kind of screen. I'll have to look into those others you mentioned, thank you. In many ways, I have "lost" music for years because I don't really have a convenient way to play it. And that makes me sad.
Thanks! I don’t find that I have need for one, so I don’t carry a knife daily. I have a similar thing to a Leatherman for my job that I carry when I’m working, and I also have an Opinel No. 8 that I take when I road trip 👍
I love this. The idea of having all those things with you all time kinda of creates some sort of discipline if you ask me. I should buy a tote bag as well lmao
Love the video! I have some logistics questions With having 3 phones including a dumb phone how do you manage telling people which phone to contact you on? (ie if your partner needs to reach you do they have to call each phone) How long do you spend each week updating the music/podcasts on the ipod? Thanks 😁
Great questions! with the multiple phones I usually am just running 2 (iPhone for work and dumbphone or smarter dumbphone for when off work). I switch the SIM cards between devices as I need. I just need to make sure to turn off iMessage when I switch to my dumbphone to be sure that all texts come through. I also can use the iPhone as a smart tablet for certain apps I may use when I'm not working, tethering to my dumbphone or using Wifi. With the iPod, it's not too much! I only have a few podcasts I listen to, and oftentimes that's while cleaning at home, so I mainly use my laptop. Some favourite pods I download and put on my iPod whenever I plug it in to add music. I usually do this as a batch whenever I have enough new stuff to add. My music catalogue is mainly what I use the iPod for, and I'm only buying an album or two each month max, so it doesn't require much updating! I'm on Mac for my computer and adding music and podcasts to the iPod is really easy to do. I'll make a video in the near future going a bit more into detail about all of this - stay tuned and thanks for the comment :)
@@spencers-adventures I just got myself a flip phone. switching off iMessage has been surprisingly tricky. iPad, phone, and MacBook. Finding interesting stuff and sharing it with people is also tricky now. Hopefully I’ll get used to it and figure out ways to navigate this tech filled world.

@@spencers-adventures I went for the pretty, green, Nokia 2660. Having a kid makes the transition a bit difficult too. She's so used to being able to play what ever music we want in the car 😅
You could have the iPod modded with an SD card in it to make it lighter and more resistant to drop damage, and a new battery in there too while you're at it.
The little flower wallet is really interesting, but seems a bit bulky. I experimented with a small wallet to store some cards and bills, but ofcourse you end up with change when you pay with bills. So I just ended up with ye olde normal wallet with a fold in the middle.
I paid cash for a purchase l made today at my local supermarket. I got 76 cents back…But, I also got an additional 91 cents on top of that because someone before me didn’t want to take their change with them!
I watched the video hoping to get some ideas for my daily carry only to see that we carry almost the same stuff already! The pocket notebook and the water bottle are true must haves. Having paper ready for notes and sketching is really handy. How is your experience with the Cat S22 Flip? I carry it as well, I love it, but some ewallet and banking applications run bad on it. I guess that helps mitigate my spending a bit.
That's funny that we have many similar items in common! I love the water bottle - I don't use a glass for water at home even, just the bottle. With the Cat, I am a fan of it because it has many of the "must have" features that people miss in certain dumbphone models, but it's too clunky to use any super distracting apps for long. I don't have any e-wallet type things on it, just use the GPS function, browser, email, and duolingo!

Hey this is completely unrelated, but how do you style your hair? I've been going for a similar look but haven't been able to find a way to style it in the morning.
I have pretty thick hair so it does a lot of this on its own as long as I point it in the right direction lol. I slick it back while showering and run my towel through it front to back afterwards, keeping it slicked but getting some of the water out. I also wear a trucker hat during part of the day so that contributes to the shape, because I put it on once it’s dried about half an hour. But that’s all - basically it just dries that way!

A word of caution: people can fairly easily replicate your keys via 3D printing just from a still image from a video. I would consider reuploading this video with blurred keys or cut the section entirely for your own safety.
This might be why other EDC showcases don’t show their keys 😬
I made some adjustments! Thanks :)
im surprised that ipods are getting expensive now, because ppl are literally throwing them away. have fished out a bunch of 5th gens from scrap at work and am in the process of refurbing them. its usually the battery that goes first. or the drive if you drop it a lot
Yeah if you have the skill to fix them up then you’ve got a good business on your hands!
as for the iPods getting expensive…point this out to the DankPods guy, it’s his doing…
Great list. I always carry a backpack but the tote bag is a great alternative. I also carry a paper book everywhere.
@@cherylT321 that’s a very good tip!
The small waterbottle is actually great!!!
Make a video on how you made the moisturizer. That would be an awesome but distinctive addition to the channel.
I'll for sure make that video!
If you want to, flashmoding and upgrading the battery on your iPod is quite easy!
The clipped water bottle makes your janitor keychain dream come true.
You're right, there are certainly several other models besides the classic that are quite affordable!
Your thoughts on the Cat S22 flip are the same as mine. I remember commenting about it on a video of yours a few months ago. Glad you like the phone as I do as well, I think its a great solution for people who want a dumb phone but need smart features.
It's a great phone! I'm looking forward to talking about it more - that video will be coming up pretty soon 👍
@@spencers-adventures I have to look into it. Never heard of this before! I am so sick of my phone I can't even tell you. If I could drop it in the ocean, I would. But ongoing family health situations make it a necessity. That's just life.
I definitely need to see B-Roll of the quill pen being used! Great video
Spencer, I have that same iPod too (120GB). I need to buy a pair of wired headphones now. I have no way to listen to it. LOL Thanks for the reminder. Cheers, Ian.
@@Barnyard140 charge it up and get some headphones - you’ll love it! Thanks for the comment Ian 👍
If it's worth it (though it would be an additional purchase/gadget, there are bluetooth dongles you can plug into the iPod and then use wireless headphones with.
I have the exact same variant of the Timex Expedition. Beautiful, affordable and easy to read.
It’s a great watch!
I just bought a Remarkable 2. Not a good pocket notebook but a perfect replacement for all of my journals.
My next "dumb" phone will likely be the Jelly 2, I love how tiny it is and I can't imagine getting sucked into youtube shorts that way. I don't agree with the pricing, but the time it could save me will be will worth it.
a note for keys, if you have a car and have a heavy key chain ,in time the weight will wear out the ignition, and thats expensive to replace, a mechanic told me
Interesting point! Thankfully I don’t have the real deal janitor key setup then lol
@@spencers-adventures I loved that you said that. I thought I was the only one on the planet who loves that. The more keys, the more important you are! That's how I always thought of it. Though I'm sure if I actually HAD to carry a giant thing like that I would hate it in about 5 minutes, LOL!
Guy looks like a super expensive and mediocre coffee shop, but also has nice vibes. Loved the video.
You say you live a simple life. But carrying around 10+ objects around with you doesn't sound simple at all.
Hey schizo, he's not carrying everything every moment
@@spencers-adventures depends how you use them. You can do a lot to a smartphone to simplify things.
It might be simpler to have 20 things that do one thing each than 1 thing that does infinite things
Living out of a campervan so minimal space. My latest focus/desire /obsession is having everything i need in a backpack. So more consumption, research, to get the best gear for this hobby, tents, cook kit, clothes, backpack etc etc. The consumption journey to needing nothing... but thats the trip, we are still always in it. Thats this world, this reality.
this is one of the best edc's ever. and i love tech.
I burst out laughing at the quill pen. Love it!! yassss
add sunblock to the skincare routine, if you haven't already
Yeah the sunblock is a great idea too! I currently have a zinc one that I don’t wear often because it makes me look like an old timey ghost lol
Man this is so fun. I switched from an iPhone max to a flip phone recently I LOVE the tiny bottle I’ll definitely be on the lookout I don’t like my heavy canteen it’s a pain to carry
quill pen earnt the like!
That watch is the same one l wear; I deliberately bought the guy one which I’m very happy with!
It’s a great watch! I’m very happy with it
I love this! I just stumbled upon your channel and I love what I'm seeing! You've got yourself a new subscriber, my friend!
Thanks for the comment and sub :) glad to hear you like what I’m doing on the channel!
It’s kinda ironic that this style of minimalism is actually making you carry more products
I have a few episodes of Dragnet saved and really enjoy listening to 👍
I have the same watch, Timex is an amazing brand. Great quality super low prices.
You’re right, they’re very good quality for their price!
7:21 Bass Drum of Death is 2024? Awesome!
Don't be a clown and invest in "Stanley"-brand! They have the best lifetime bottles.
I really enjoy the baby bottle lol! The IEMs is such a great move. I am planning to finally get some for my iPod too!
The water bottle is genius 😮
I missed the entire iPod era. Never could afford one. When I learned the Classic was no longer being made I nearly cried. I knew however many there were still floating out there would now cost way more than I would ever be able to afford. So I will never have one. I can't stand music on my phone. And I hate those other music players that don't have any kind of screen. I'll have to look into those others you mentioned, thank you. In many ways, I have "lost" music for years because I don't really have a convenient way to play it. And that makes me sad.
Cool set, man! But..no pocket knife or a small multitool?)
Thanks! I don’t find that I have need for one, so I don’t carry a knife daily. I have a similar thing to a Leatherman for my job that I carry when I’m working, and I also have an Opinel No. 8 that I take when I road trip 👍
The boat who wouldn’t float is such a good book!!
I’m really enjoying it so far! I loved his other big one, Never Cry Wolf 👍
@@spencers-adventures I haven’t read that one yet but it’s at my in-laws. Another good NL based book is lure of the Labrador wild!
I love this. The idea of having all those things with you all time kinda of creates some sort of discipline if you ask me. I should buy a tote bag as well lmao
The heavy-duty tote bag is honestly so awesome! It’s a great buy
please make a video on the moisturizer
Hello, can you make a video about how to make your home made skin care products ?
For sure 👍 I will move it up on my to-do list!
Love the video!
I have some logistics questions
With having 3 phones including a dumb phone how do you manage telling people which phone to contact you on? (ie if your partner needs to reach you do they have to call each phone)
How long do you spend each week updating the music/podcasts on the ipod?
@@willhelliwell it is a tough transition for sure! Good on you for making a change though 👍 I have to flip back and forth between smart/dumbphone for work and iMessage always trips me up. What model flip phone did you get?
@@spencers-adventures I went for the pretty, green, Nokia 2660.
Having a kid makes the transition a bit difficult too. She's so used to being able to play what ever music we want in the car 😅
You could have the iPod modded with an SD card in it to make it lighter and more resistant to drop damage, and a new battery in there too while you're at it.
I am going to do the work myself later this year!
Dig your vibe man. Straight to the point, but you also put your money where you mouth is. Cheers from TX bro!
The Philips GoGear Vibe is a great little mp3 player
About to ask to get the watch you showed off for my upcoming b-day 😌
I also just subscribed
It’s a great watch - I hope you get in and enjoy it!
Just the essentials, sweet!
You know like a key word for searching to buy that type of change wallet?
Yeah I will probably make a dedicated video about it honestly! Search leather squeeze coin change pouch and something similar should come up 👍
You need a Victorinox SAK
Good bunch of items!
