RHCP played this live in the Josh era, 2-3 times IIRC, for a fan named Maggie who had terminal cancer, who requested to josh as her "dying wish" and then josh spontaneously brought it to the band and they all agreed. It was a last minute decision and they delivered. King move.
I see a lot of people bashing Josh on the dosed live video for being "not good enough" Without knowing the story behind it, it was a last minute decision with very minimum rehearsal. Dude's an angel.

They had the opportunity to play it live with John and Josh on board on SA tour in 2007, but they didn't do it. So I guess there's no chance, unfortunately.
They played this live for the first time in Edmonton in i think 2017. I was there and it blew my mind that it came up!
They did play this live in Calgary in 2017, but he had a backing guitar, and it obviously was different arrangement. Supposedly it was played live one other time as well.

Hello Nikola, I noticed the pickups on your strat are extremelly low on the bass side with quite a difference on the tremble side, do you do that to archieve a frusciante tone or is it just personal preferece?

Hi Lourenço! Thank you for watching. Really appreciate it. I haven't changed anything on the guitar since I bought it in 2011 haha :) I have no idea why the pickups are positioned like that. I'm only changing string and fixing the intonation from time to time.

Probably because that whole record was not meant to be played live :) Also, he probably stopped playing guitar after that album

Josh teased that track once and the crowd started singing and Chad started playing and it was beautiful.

It's really incredible, this song is the pure vibe of Frusciante. I hope we ever get to listen to it live someday, they did it with Hard to Concentrate recently, so why not? Dreaming is free ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

It really doesn’t. The crowd sings the part, and one can just get the rhythm goin, until Flea brings something to play the melody off of.

Gotta respect Josh for pulling this off back in the day, especially with the story behind it being requested.
Given how many issues he's had with his pedalboard lately, I think relying so heavily on a looper pedal would be a terrifying risk lol. Youre right though, its such a beautiful song and its one of many reasons that sum up why By The Way is my favourite Chili Peppers album.

@@adamlitchfield3371 hes not having any issues now with it, but in the first few months of the tour, especially around europe, he was having mega mega problems because henry had his pedalboard setup all in a single loop, which is stupid because if one pedal goes down, everything goes down. No signal.
Instead, theyre now running a patch looper system, they can just isolate a pedal thats giving issues and take it out of the board without having to swap to an entire b-rig, which john ended up doing by himself most of the time when he would have these issues (such as plugging his cable straight into his silver jubilee for californication once at the beginning of the tour)

Dosed is a magical song and a good one to practice playing with a looper. I wonder how would you play the chorus? Open chords or barred chords? I personally used barred chords, an octave higher (e.g. G as 10-12-12-12) and adding extra notes for the voicing.

I completely agree! Long ago when I first started trying to learn music, I was absolutely amazed by John's creativity for the polyphonic melodies in Dosed ― One of the most notable things to shape my own approach to writing things!

Most probably because it's impossible to play it on one guitar live (or at least very hard)
by my calculations (computer engineer fyi) in order to play dosed:
dosed = frusciante(3)
as my math shows, we need 3 frusciante's to play one dosed.

I wish! But I don't think I've ever seen John use a looper. It's probably my fave rhcp song of all time
He actually had a looper on the By The Way tour, but I only recall him ever using it for the volume swells before Venice Queen. Maybe the plan was to try Dosed at some point, but I’d imagine it would fall apart when the loops are reintroduced after the first chorus, for timing reasons
It's one of most sweet melody i ever hear,i can't understand why john never played this masterpiece on stage
He talked about it in an interview. He just simply doesn’t want to use loop pedals and do a subpar sloppy version. There’s like 4-5 guitar parts he would have to loop, and they would all have to be perfectly in time. Doing that first try in a live concert is hard and understandable that he doesn’t want to deal with it.

Dosed is such a genius layering of melodies. It’s haunting and beautiful at the same time.
I mean…this sounds specifically like his solo work and NOTHING like his RCHP work. I sense you lack understanding of John and his total work vs RHCP. No offense, but come on. Dude hates the spotlight, has had drug issues, makes music to make music, RHCP is a money machine and spotlight gig, just seems real off key if you follow John

Basically, he can do the loop but doesn't know how to sync everything technically and they are apparently too lazy to figure out how (personally, seems very easy to me especially with their touring team of pro technicians but I dunno).

I have been thinking a lot. I think it would be cool if Josh played with John again. I'm a fan of Frusciante. But their new albums have only a couple of hit tracks... Btw, I'm with you album yet doesn't sound like a classic rhcp, but this is a really solid and interesting album. It's strange that they kicked out Josh after ten years... The more I listen to I'm With You and it's accompanying B-side album, I'm Beside You, the more I realize Josh brought a whole different dynamic to the peppers that helped them make some really interesting and beautiful works. Victorian Machinery, Police Station, The Sunset Sleeps, I could go on. A very good era in retrospect

It definitely fits pretty comfortably in John's register. Fun fact, John sings in the chorus. I wonder if they don't play it because it was multi-tracked initially and it's a bitch to get it to sound right live

How well does that Ditto Looper work? I spend a good $250 on the EH 1440 Looper, and more than two loops and it gets wicked muddy. Especially if the loops happen to play in the same octave.

Thanks! It's a regular looper with two extra functions to reverse looped parts and to slow them down. Nothing fancy 🙂

The world may never know. As mentioned below Josh and Zach Irons did. I like the Kilnghoffer era, and one reason was he would play songs in concert I dont remember John playing. Hard to Concentrate being another.
John played "Hard to Concentrate" live 9 times last year and twice this year.
