OMG...I was getting ready to head to the airport to catch a plane after doing a thermostat and radiator job. Turn the key....click, click, click, and no start with engine turning over. This guy is a savior for sure.

You are the MAN for posting this. Who knows how many hours and dollars you saved me by putting it here? What an age we live in that I can Google "clicking noise honda civic won't start" and the first thing that pops up is a video that solves my problem! Life is good.

I was thinking relay too. This guy deserves a million likes! Brilliant! Thank you. I removed the bolt and took a piece of fine sand paper and some electronics cleaner and cleaned the area where the bolt sits so that it makes a good connection and tightened the bolt and booya! Very cool. This thing had me stumped. Like you said, Honda cars have so many connections and ground faults that you really need to check alot of things. Battery cables + and - and relay switches and ground to the alternator and ground to the chassis/engine. Crazy but it works. Thanks.

Thanks! I just dropped a new engine in a 2004 Honda Civic, got in and it fired right up. The next day I went out to test my fine work again, stated right up and decided to let it run to operating temp and it suddenly stalled. This was really frustrating as I spent weeks rebuilding this engine and finally got it in in sub zero temperatures. APPARENTLY I FORGOT TO TORQUE THIS ONE GROUND BOLT DOWN AND IT WORKED LOOSE THRU ENGINE VIBRATION!!!!!!!!!! Your video saved me a lot of frustration.
    Thanks again,
    Dave

Obviously, I was having the same problem with our car after having a new starter put in a week ago. The new starter worked great for a week. It started having he same symptoms, clicking, no turn over. I checked the battery and it had 12.57volts. I tapped the new starter with wooden hammer, and still, just clicking, no turn over. I took the air box out to get a better look at the starter, checked electrical contections. They were good. I follow the wires from the starter to the ground connection next to the thermostat. It looked corroded, so I took the bolt out and cleaned the connection and put dielectric grease on it, re-connected the bolt. Whammo, it fixed it. It started. Only tools needed; 10mm socket wrench and a wire brush. Thanks for posting.

My 97 civic started having a hard time starting. I would have to hold the key on start position for close to 10 seconds for engine to start. I thought my starter was on its way out. Luckily, I found this video prior to purchasing a new starter. I located ground on my thermostat and bolt was on tight. I unbolted ground connection and it was quite dirty. The metal connection was a very flat finish. I got a small wire brush and cleaned the area on the thermostat where bolt goes, as well as both sides of the ground connection. I even brushed the ground wire where the strands were visible on the connection. I left all metal surfaces very clean and shiny. Went to start the car for the first time in two days, and car started right up in a second or two. I appreciate this video as it saved me a good amount of money and led me to the source of my problem! I encourage anyone who has a problem starting their honda to clean this ground! I didn't think this would work, but I was pleasantly mistaken! Thanks again

Thank you for this video. My 98 Civic stalled in idle and would not restart. The fuel pump relay was clicking. The ground nut was tight but I removed it and cleaned everything with sandpaper. Starts like a charm!!

I was having a intermittent starting problem with my 97 Honda civic 5 speed manual shift if I leave the key on the on position to long the car would not turn over. I push the clutch in and all you would hear is a click. I thought the starter was going out. I went outside the car started went under the hood move the ground wire near the thermostat housing. Tried to restart the car wouldn't turn over. So i knew this was the problem. Used sand paper sanded away the corrosion. Car starts like new thanks for the video. Its winter in michigan saved me a lot of pain and money. God bless

    THANKEW!
After watching about a dozen "tutes" on this problem, it was YOUR video that lead me to the EASY, 5-minute (NO COST) fix of my 2004 Honda Civic's "Won't Start - Won't Crank" situation.
Turns out it WAS the wire you pointed out, BUT - in my case - the ground wire had corroded & snapped off where it attached to the car's frame (RIGHT next to the hood latch).
Had spent TWO DAYS chasing other possible (complex) problems and there was the answer - the FIRST thing you see when you open the hood.
OBVIOUS once you know what to look for.
BUT - wouldn't have found it without your help.
    MANY thanks.

i tool that bolt out, sanded it, sanded the engine block..
turned the engine over with it disconnected, same result.
put it back in, tightened it down.. Blammmm! Started right up like normal!! and has been good all day.

Just to mention that if it's clicking and you determine it's not the starter or the relay make sure all your crowns from the battery to the motor block are cleaned and make sure the connection for the positive cable is not loose. Having a bad connection for the negative or positive has a lot to do with problems with starting the vehicle

Freddie Gunter, always check & make sure you have good ground,
ATG suggests to use a DVM:
      1. Disconnect the Red (Positive) Car Cable's 10mm Bolt.
      2. Set to Ohm (Omega) scale with Black wire to Black (Negative) Cable & Red wire to all Ground Leads.
3, You should get a meter reading below 10 Ohms.
Warning: Make sure you first disconnect the Positive (Red) Cable out of the battery!!!!

Angel Espinoza, remove the key panel covers.
You may have a loose ground or ignition key assy worns.
Use the DVM under OHM Scale to find loose or open connections.
