  • Customer says that exhaust fumes are getting into the cabin, another garage looked at it and said they can't find anything wrong. This is what I found, they obviously didn't look very hard.

    You must have the patience of a saint!And that’s why mechanics swear so much-quite rightly.Great to see you back btw.

    An honest video with no edits - reminds me so much of my attempts at car repairs that it makes me cringe. Thanks, man!

    Glad to see you back on my daily TH-cam notifications Steve. That exhaust manifold looks home made, bits of tube a fabricated item. Is that factory? We could see the job just fine through the lens, just wondering how you work so well handling spanners on one hand and phone camera in the other.

    • @pistonbroke
      @pistonbroke  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes it's the factory manifold, that's how they are. God knows how I work with tools in one hand, phone in the other. I just manage to do it, it's a struggle sometimes though. I need a head mounted gopro.

    Good man, this is a class video and a horrible job to do. I have my one to repair this week and your video helps. Must be a problem with outlander manifold.. I heard of a few broken. It's the different metal on end pipe I'd say.

    • @pistonbroke
      @pistonbroke  ปีที่แล้ว

      I've done a few now and yeah, the first one is pretty nasty but it gets easier the more you do, that's if the all the bolts come out! I think they crack because the end pipe is smaller then the others so it expands and contracts at a different rate.

    And that’s why mechanics hate engineers…. What a ballache getting that out was for you.

    That's crazy a 2016 car can leak exhaust fumes into a car through a vent!

    • @pistonbroke
      @pistonbroke  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Any car will if there's an exhaust leak at the engine.

  • @vincentangler
    @vincentangler ปีที่แล้ว

    This going to the egr valve and I have it blocked off so I think I'll blank that bend on the manifold too. At least it won't break there again.

  • @graemeevans394
    @graemeevans394 ปีที่แล้ว

    Like to see use of Neverseize on those exhaust studs, so the next bloke gets it easier

    • @pistonbroke
      @pistonbroke  ปีที่แล้ว

      Why? 70,000+ miles and they come undone. Doesn't need it.

    I have the fumes going into the car , I also have a problem with the power, 1 minute drives great the next it loses all power, it’s a 2018 asx 2.2 automatic 4 wheel drive any ideas would be appreciated, ps I’m in Glasgow, wish you were my local mechanic 👍🏻

    • @pistonbroke
      @pistonbroke  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Fumes in the cabin will be either a cracked manifold or some other exhaust leak under the bonnet. I had a similar thing happen a few weeks ago on an outlander with the 2.2 diesel. The EGR valve was sticking open causing it to lose all power. No engine light, no fault codes, just wouldn't rev and smoked real bad from the exhaust.

    So if this is a transverse diesel does that mean it's a psa motor.

    • @pistonbroke
      @pistonbroke  ปีที่แล้ว

      They're all transverse. This is not a PSA engine.

    Could you not have welded that crack ? I suppose pain in the arse if it cracks again.

    • @pistonbroke
      @pistonbroke  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes I could have welded it but there would be no guarantee on how long it will last or if it would warp while welding. A new part has a 12 month guarantee, if it fails then it's not me paying for it to be done again.
      Do the job once and do it right.
