My wife and I decided to get a minivan a few years ago. We considered 3 of the 4 here. The Chrysler was out due to poor reliability and poor transmission problems. We test drove the rest. I love the Honda's ride best. It was comfortable over bumps. It had adequate power. It was roomy. But I ruled it out because it was severely dated. Dated looks, like the designer didn't even try. Dated infotainment center. It looked like it was designed in 2016. The backup camera was horrible. My 2014 Pathfinder had a better backup camera. The Sienna, which was my favorite before the test drive, simply because my mother in law had a 2005. It was very reliable and we were very comfortable on long trips with it. However, this one was passed over because of the lethargic engine. OK..you get 34-36MPGs. That's great. But at what costs? Everything comes with a cost. You pay for it with power. The 4 cylinder engine is not enough for a van this big. Sure you have a battery powering the wheels. But it's not powerful enough. Sure, some mommas driving their kids to soccer practice will say, "I have no problem". Well I did. Acceleration was LOUD. I mean very loud because of the CVT. You go off an exit ramp and you have to literally have to floor it. And between 60-70, it takes too long to bring it into another gear. I couldn't handle the lack of power. Unacceptable for a vehicle this size. Sorry...I will pay for the gas. I'm paying nearly $50K for a minivan. I can afford the gas. What I can't afford is the lack of power when I need it. The engine is just not acceptable for me and I'm not a fast driver. But I need the car to stay with traffic if everyone's moving quick. The infotainment is also dated like the Honda. The touchscreen was sluggish to respond. The screen wasn't that big. And the backup camera seems like it's 10 years old. That leaves the Carnival. We weren't sure about buying a Kia. But they did well with the Stinger. They did great with the Telluride. Let's give the Carnival a try. The looks are great. Everyone can agree this is the best looking of the bunch. The interior was great. You just get a ton of stuff for the money. Heated and cooling seats in the back? Do the others have that? No. Reclining seats in the back for those long road trips. Wow. You don't anything like that unless you're in a Maybach. The ride was decent, probably a little behind the Odyssey. But the ride was predictable over bumps and around corners. I also loved how comfortable the seats were. Then you get a bunch of things that are just nice to have in a family van: Rear camera view, blindspot cameras integrated into gauges, Nice Bose audio, all the safety features, adaptive cruise, and lane keep (among the best in the automotive industry). It even detects movement in the back if you forget your pets or kids in the back and honks the horn. In the end, we bought the Carnival SX Prestige. Kia simply gave us too much for the money to pass up. That's their value proposition. They have to in order to compete with the big boys. So what were junky cars only bought by people who couldn't afford Japanese made cars a few years ago, are no growing into the best in each class. And it gave us a 10/100K warranty. You don't get that with the others. It's been two years since we bought one. We've taken it on some very long trips. Oh...and packing 4 people and luggage would produce 28-29MPGs. Not bad. So in the end, the Carnival is the clear winner. And no, I'm not a Kia Employee.

Fun fact: In EU, where the only* way to get a minivan is to import a used one from the US (usually the after-collision ones sold at auctions) we mostly import Pacificas, cause they loose value faster than Toyota and Sienna and therefore are the best value for money. And if we get problems with engine or transmission, replacing for a used one is 1-3% of cars value (each) and replacing for a new one is probably still less than 10%.
So basially the Chryslers unreliability does not matter, cause the oversupply of engines and transmissions is big enough here to make changing them on par with changing all the fluids in the car cost-wise.
*actually, Lexus announced it will offer Lexus LM, which is a minivan, however this is a rather specific vehicle and extremely pricey.

I've been a GM and Nissan guy for decades. Due to the fact that all the companies seem to be not making sport sedans anymore, we looked at Kia. My father has had four in a row and he told me he was going a couple weeks later to get his fifth. We went to the dealership and we're shown the forte GT. Long story short, price, technology and performance won us over. We love the forte GT and that's even more apparent every time I smoke a Civic SI!

I have a 2013 Chrysler Town & Country with 409,000 miles and she still kicking along and is in good shape. So when ppl say chrysler dont last long that's a lie. My father always said if you take care of it it will take care of you. So i went and brought a 2022 chrysler pacifica limited S and have to say i love everything about it. From all the bells and whistles it rides great very comfortable seats and enough power to get around town with a really good sound system.

I must agree on this one. Maintenance is key to any vehicle. Recently we had a chance to drive the Pacifica and it was a pleasant experience. We have a 2022 Carnival which we picked because we fell in love with the looks and interior. We traded a 2017 Odyssey which had some electrical issues (9-speed version, stay away from that one!). The Carnival is very comfortable and spacious as described in the video. But recently we had to drive from Florida to OH on a rental Pacifica S trim (flights canceled, thanks Frontier...) and I must say I have no complaints. It drove through rain and a bit of ice and snow without trouble. Excellent power, felt secure in the highway, and seats were comfortable too. I still like my Carnival better due to slightly more cushion on the front seats and personal preferences around overall design and interior aesthetics. Performance wise they are both very good and I wouldn't mind having either as a daily driver. If I could add something to mine is the the hybrid engine option; sounds good depending on extra cost. Our daily commute is just 40 miles round trip so this would pretty much be driven on the battery which would save a lot of gas.

I’ve had the 2021 Sienna for two years now.. not a single complaint! For those saying it lacks power, it does not at all! I’m used to driving sporty cars and this has enough juice to do what needs to be done, no one’s hot rodding in a van lol. Over 6 months in Texas I’ve averaged 32.4 mpg. I use this as my daily driver and work vehicle so bc I do lots of short city drives daily my mpg suffers a tad. But it’s been an amazing vehicle. Had a few trips to Florida and it did fantastic. I’ve removed the middle seats for a couple road trips, not hard at all, just four bolts.

I've taken one over high passes in the Rockies. It does fine. Engine noise is a problem but the power is fine and is similar to what a typical V6 minivan had 15 years ago which means enough for family use even when fully loaded.

We had a Honda Odyssey 2018, mid trim 9 speed transmission, and unfortunately it gave us lots of electrical issues. Traded for a 2022 Carnival SX and we absolutely love it. I've gone from OH to FL and to PA on it several times and is is a very pleasant drive. Depending on your appetite for throttle it can be harsh like 26 mpgs; however, if you take it easy and use the eco setting while keeping it at 75 or below you can hit 30 mpg. Really depends on how much you push on that pedal. Kind of a challenge because it does has a nice engine note when pushing a little 😉. Overall we are quite pleased with it and hope for many years of service out of it.

If you tow or haul the Sienna is a loser. Fixed 2nd row seats just kill the interior hauling capability. If you're carrying only people it can be tolerable, but you're losing a good bit of what a minivan can do. The stow and go 2nd row seats in the Pacifica are a real advantage.

@@kenjkbs I know that you won't be impressed by the fact that minivans are actually considered to be trucks. If it has a flat load floor and a full opening rear hatch the EPA considers it to be a truck for fuel economy purposes. Thus you have such weirdness as the PT Cruiser being considered a "truck" but PT convertible being considered as a "car". In fact the original Dodge Caravan was designed by the truck division. After the car side saw how well it sold they snatched later designs away from truck so they could claim credit for it. Not that any of that has much to do with reality.

The Toyota Sienna is my choice I had a 2012 and it was one of the best riding vehicles that I've owned. I plan on buying a 2024 but want cord and plug connected like my RAV 4 Prime. This battery-add was discussed for 2024 and would make the Sienna impossible to beat. With my RAV4 Prime, I rarely buy gas as it goes 44 miles on electric, I want this feature on the Sienna.

I had huge issues with transmission(idling or hesitation between acceleration) 2017 Honda Odyssey and ended up with trading it for Highlander because dealer service could not do anything about it. And I got to know that it was not only my problem, but two other my families also had same issue and sold them before 50K miles of ownership. Never will go back to Odyssey or even Honda...

Not having AWD is not a downside. It's not needed as these are all FWD-biased having the majority of the weight over the front wheels. You also reduce the price by around $2000 + any maintenance over the time of ownership relating to the AWD components.

You also don't talk about the condensation problem with the Sienna's engine. Reviews talk about not being able to drive the car constantly short distances esp in cold weather or condensation builds and the oil breaks down. Wellll if you are typical family you are often doing short trips -drop off at school, sports run to the stores. Seems like a really big problem.

I would rate them as follows
    Depending on trims
1 pacifica hybrid pinnacle 1 Toyota
    2Toyota sienna 2 pacifica awd
    3Kia carnival 3 Kia carnival
    4honda 4 honda
How can honda get #2 spot with a van that dosen't offer awd or a hybrid option?
    Not even maybe!
Toyota only has electrical awd. Not mechanical awd. So it's more than a rear wheel assist. The engine is loud and underpowered. I dont believe that a brand new model of any brand can be called reliable as of yet.
    Pacifica offers more options
    Plug in hybrid
Awd and stow in go middle seats
Best interior trims with the pinnacle.
Our 2020 Awd pacifica has been rock solid, and i would buy one again in a flash.
With the hybrid pacifica you could technically run on pure electric all the time, seeing as most vans are driven short distance haling kids and gear around.
The awd gas version is not as efficient but it offers middle seat stow n go also and the best infotainment and interior trims, and a true mechanical awd system. And a good power.

Yes, SUVs are waste of time; lucky you in North America region, you can get them. I really regret that not available in Europe, at least in Poland (second hand only); all of them are master pieces, maybe really to choose one only would be Pacifica because of outlook

    • @TheBlobik
      @TheBlobik 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

We are about to get access to Lexus LM in Europe (and Poland specifically is expected to be a market for those) but the price is overwhelming, you can get a reasonably big apartment for what LM is going to cost.
And, if you are blind and thus dont mind the ugliness I guess you can get VW Multivan / Mercedes V-class, size-wise they are like a minivan, shape-wise they are like a van, equipment-wise they are underequiped unless you pay for the extremely pricey options (this gets you close to the LM territory of expensiveness), and quality-wise they are German cars - good marketing, but not as good as hyped.
But yes, it also saddens me that if we want a decent minivan we kinda have to import in most cases. My Chrysler Pacifica is on the way via the Atlantic - Pacificas are the most commonly imported minivans as they do not have such high resale value, so you can get better value for money when you buy at auctions.
And since so many get imported for body parts, chryslers low reliability is not a problem - if your engine or transmission breaks, you just get another used one cheap. A set of rims for the car is more expensive than the transmission, and replacing engine costs roughly 5x as much as changing oil in it.
