  • A trip from Athabasca Glacier to the Arctic Ocean, 4000km canoeing down three major rivers of Canada. The Athabasca River, Slave River and MacKenzie River, the last being the longest in Canada at 1800km. I began this trip alone on June 21 2020, planning to take two to three months. The starting point was Athabasca Crossing which is the head waters of the river, planning to follow the water all the way to the Beaufort Sea and then east another short paddle to the village of Tuktoyaktuk.
In this episode I finish up with making repairs to the canoe in Fort McMurray, and continue onward toward Fort Chipewyan.

just stumbled onto this video. We actually met when you first paddled into Fort Chip that day. I was 1 of 3 boats at the boat ramp and I offered you a bottle of water. We came from Fort Mcmurray to do some fishing on the big lake.

Glad you survived to share the yarn. Is it possible you went into that Class IV rapid knowing you would likely flip, so you could create some exciting cam footage? Probably not, but who knows. I have had canoe trips like that, swimming in blue jeans in 6' standing waves in ice cold water. Surprised I ever survived ...

You should go on the alone show man. 22 days alone… 30 could make you a lot of dough.

Is that a Hellman canoe? What model did you go with? They're about an hour drive from where I live and I've been eyeing up their boats for a while now...

There are many that don't want to drink the river water north of "Big Oil" tailings ponds...any comments?

I live in Fort Mac and it's kinda awesome that you have this video because this is the exact trip I wanted to do. Looking on the map, there doesn't seem to be any rapids. Is that part of the trip pretty calm the whole way?

Yep, there are no rapids between Fort Mac and Chip.
