Enjoyed the video! Technically by law NWT can't deny you entry. That's a violation of the navigable water act but during Covid, every government broke the law. You still had one amazing adventure by the looks of things!
Holy Moly!! Man this is such a great channel. I wish more people could see the type of content that you make. You are a very genuine person and I think everyone needs this type of perspective in their life. No matter where you are from you can gain something from this video!!
👍👍👍👍👍 - Well, I waited till the last vid of this adventure to mention my cousin, Wayne Hanson, made this trip back in 1975. He only had a few pics to show in the end. Now with your vids I finally get to see more of his adventure. He was less than a year out of the CN Army when he did this. I don't recall how far north he got but I was pretty impressed regardless that anyone would attempt this solo by canoe in this day and age (1975 and 2020). I wonder if he stopped in Ft Chip and if he did, would anyone still be alive from then. My guess maybe Ray but Robert would have been pretty young at that time. To see you do this trip was doubly interesting to me because of your talents in the outdoors; and my cousin who died last summer. Sorry you didn't get to complete the adventure but what a trip you did and some pretty awesome memories, sights and friends you made along the way. Thanks for sharing this. May the Spirits be with you.
@@skoteoutdoors - only someone who has done it would know. He showed up at our door one day (Northern Alberta) still in his adventuring clothes with a big smile on his face. When I thought of the few pics he had, I wasn't sure, but it seemed to me he had lost a few things. My memory fails me enough that I'm not sure but knowing him it would definitely be like him to do something like attempting the rapids at Ft Mac. 😊 he never said that he did, that's why I doubt it but then again he was one to keep the story positive. He did have horseshoes where you would least expect them. There are other stories he told. 😉😉 Anyway, thanks for sharing your videos. I really enjoyed them and the memories they invoked of my wonderful cousin.
What a great series especially for those of us who would love to make that kind of trip but would not be able to. I would not have thought you would need special permission to enter the NWT. To me that would be like getting to the border of BC and being denied. The territories are a part of Canada after all.
During the Covid pandemic they closed the border, due to the lack of available Healthcare, theres not many critical care beds up here and if there had been a serious outbreak there was fear it would easily over run the hospitals, especially the first year, even essential workers who fly in an out were severely limited and had to file paperwork and jump through hoops (I fly into Ft smith on contract and ended up with 8 months off before the company I contract to could even submit paperwork for me to come north).
What a wonderful trip. Too bad on not being able to complete it but you made some new friends and memories, both will remain with you always! Glad you showed the dump in the rapids, it will help some other folks when they consider doing things that may not be the safest, especially alone. It was not your time and you survived to move on to the next adventure, thank heavens for us! lol Really enjoying your travels and what a great sense of humor, important in times like these! Thanks for sharing. :) :)
Awesome videos there bud. Tough go on the Grand Rapids but amazing you came out of it with all your gear. Once again thanks to 13 Prevail Troy for recommending your channel. Not disappointed at all. I believe I've watched all your videos this morning. Should be getting a lot more views than you are. Maybe start sharing trailers on your Facebook page .
The covid cops were pretty hard-core about getting into the territories over the last few years, its unfortunate your trip ended where it did! I hope you make it back up to continue it. Ps they just removed the border crossing stuff finally!
You make excellent videos about an adventure I always dreamed about and you have the open friendly nature so common to the Newfoundlanders. A pleasure to get to know you and your adventures. The Arctic Prairie by Ernest Thompson Seton was my first adventure about the Athabasca river by canoe and what an amazing adventure you've made. Did you go through the Grande Rapids to the right of the island or the left? Incredible adventure, you have my respect.
Still cant figure out why you got denied past Ft. Smith? You're Canadian no? I paddled solo from Ft. McMurray to Tuk in 1998. Nobody ever asked me about "entry". Interesting to find out more what the hell happened to you. The old Ft site you visited at Ft. Chip I dont think you realize what that was! Thats the Fort Alexander MacKenzie left from in 1789. Cool to see. I had no idea it was still visable when I was there in 1998.
Crazy I had no idea they actually shut down the provincial-territorial border at that time. It does make sense though, Alberta had enough virus goin around to cripple the NWT's healthcare system overnight.

This is so cool! I’m glad you had fun in chip and enjoyed the Grandjambe hospitality.
Nice drone shots following the boat with Robert Jr and Chloe. Sounded like a little Marty Stuart playing on the radio.
Cheers!

I don't get it, why were you denied access unto the nwt?
It was due to the lockdowns and covid. Some parts of the north were very strict
@@skoteoutdoors crazy considering what your intentions were
