    Hey thank you for your detail videos I was able to restore a 86 Trx 125 from the ground up. ATC 110 and Trx 125 are almost twins. Thanks a million!!!!! I completely rebuilt the motor from the ground up as well as the frame electrical etc. So Cal Bruce you should be an instructor for Honda. You simplified the process I never in my life rebuilt a gasoline engine especially from zero. I have no engine rebuild experience what so ever!!!!

      Excuse the delayed response. I just ran across your message. And thank you for the kind words. It's a lot of work to make these videos. But it is worth the effort when I get this positive feedback.

    Thank you so much for sharing this series of videos. I am in the process of rebuilding my neighbor's three wheeler and ran into some issues when trying to get the cylinder head and crank case apart. Watching you reassemble everything taught me what I needed to know to get it all apart! The lighting is excellent, the camera angle is perfect and the explanations are short and sweet without leaving anything out. Thank you!

    hey at 17:28 you talk about the orientation of the magnet and the spark advance. Im doing a '78 atc90 and one of the springs on my advance was broken so I took it apart. I dont know which way its suppsed to go back on. does the points lobe face opposite from the groove just like this engine? thanks

      Great! It was a lot of work making those videos. I'm glad they are helping you. What are you working on? I made those videos for an ATC110. But a lot of the information will apply to other models as well.

      I hope you have all the pieces. It should be very similar to my 1981. The CDI is a different shape and the adjustment for the main drive chain is different. And most obviously the tank and rear fenders/seat. That's all the differences that I recall. Have fun!

      +SoCal Bruce do you go into detail an how to set up timing with a timing light? I have not seen all the videos yet, I'll get to it.... and no I didn't have all the parts... this video is helping me identify what I need, the cam was ruined and and top end was completely disassembled. I have parts on the way now.

    • @SoCalBruce
      @SoCalBruce  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Check video 12 of 12 in this series starting at 12 min 15 sec. This shows timing with a timing light and you can see the spark advance work. To get the engine started you can line up the line on the pulse generator stator with the line on the pulse generator rotor (located under the cover on the cylinder head). After adjusting the timing, I show how to adjust the clutch.

    How do I know if I need oversized rings? I got a 1979 110 that had been opened and the piston and rings look new but the ring gap is way to large. It measures 0.043” or 1.08mm. Any help or information would be greatly appreciated!

    I got a 84 atc 110 i need help with adjusting the timing chain so it will be on the mark can you make a video of it please.

    • @SoCalBruce
      @SoCalBruce  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      You need to be concerned about a timing mark on the rotor and one on the stator and also the mark on the cam sprocket and cylinder head. This video will show you what you need. Start around the middle of the video and watch to the end. I also made another video setting the valve timing and clearance on a 1980 ATC 110. It's the same idea except that the timing mark is a little different on the flywheel. You can see this video at th-cam.com/video/HjG_RDiH3vA/w-d-xo.html Good luck!

  • @corychamplin
    @corychamplin 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    When replacing the timing chain should I also replace both the cam sprocket and crank sprocket?
    If so, are there any marks for properly clocking the crank sprocket when pressing it onto the crank?
    Does the slack/tensioning of the chain make up for any clocking variance on the crank timing sprocket?

    Bruce, I have a 1985 110 and I want to modify it, I will get an aftermarket cdi box and coil and the fancy exhaust but I have a question, I have the head off of an ATC 125, could I use that with the bigger piston on my 110? Thanks in advance and I want to say that your videos are an incredible source of information and that you do a fantastic job explaining things.
    Jim

    • @SoCalBruce
      @SoCalBruce  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven't experimented with this sort of engine modification. The ATC 125 piston is 3 mm larger in diameter. I'm not sure if you can bore your cylinder out that much. If you try to use the 125 cylinder, will it bolt up? Then the 125 stroke is longer, so that won't work right with your crankshaft. Maybe before investing all this money in these modifications, you can sell your 110 and buy a 125. Then you can modify it how you like.

    Hi, i know this is an old video but i need some help, i have a '79 atc110 and the hose that connects the carb to the airbox is missing, do you know what diameter hose i would need, and i would think that a radiator hose would work, and also where i could get a shift lever. Thanks for reading.

    • @SoCalBruce
      @SoCalBruce  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't know the diameter for the air tube off hand. But if you have the carburetor and air box, you can measure them. Use the metric scale on your caliper or ruler. Ebay is a good source for used parts. You should be able to find the shift lever there.

    Hey I need help finding out what size of piston I need for a 1984 Honda ATC 110 and where to get one I live in Canada

    • @Canadian-bandit
      @Canadian-bandit ปีที่แล้ว

      My ATC is the same as yours I think 👍

    • @SoCalBruce
      @SoCalBruce  ปีที่แล้ว

      The ATC in this video is a 1981. But it has the same piston as your 1984. You can try the parts department of your local Honda shop or any motorcycle shop. Another source is ebay. First you need to determine if you have a standard or a an oversize piston and if your cylinder needs to be bored.

    Hey I recently bought a 1984 atc110 rebuilt the top end went to start it and it would not start I noticed that the spark advancer is sticky and is hard to open and close could this be the reason it will not start because it still has spark please let me know if think this I causing the issue

    • @SoCalBruce
      @SoCalBruce  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It should still start if it's timed correctly. Maybe the pulse generator is 180 degrees off. You should still take it off, oil it up, and get it moving freely.

    I'm rebuilding the top end on my Honda atc 110 (1983), and in the gasket kit I have 2 small o-rings. I didn't find any mention of them in this video, are they supposed to go on some wheres, and if so where. Any help is appreciated

    • @SoCalBruce
      @SoCalBruce  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +BGgamesca , You must be using the same gasket set that I used. Yes, there are two o-rings that are not used. I was confused the first time that I assembled this engine and asked a motorcycle mechanic about the o-rings. He said that they are probably used in another engine. The gasket sets are used by more than this ATC 110 Engine. If I remember correctly, there is also another gasket for the points cover that you won't use. It is for the 1979-1980 ATC 110 and the ATC 90. Just throw them into the coffee can full of unused gaskets to save and never need.

    • @SoCalBruce
      @SoCalBruce  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If I remember correctly, I had the same question - with no one to ask. I think these gasket sets are made for more than one engine. The o-rings are probably for a similar engine. CT90 or ST90 Cub 90 or ??? There is a small o-ring on the clutch adjusting parts. But I think it is smaller than the ones that you are referencing. I left them out and the engine ran fine with no leaks. If anyone knows the answer to Jared's question, please feel free to leave a comment.
