Thanks for posting I used it for a Mazda B2300 worked like a charm. The aftermarket replacement looked slightly different but it went in easily and works well. I was half the dealer price both from Ford and Mazda. Keep up the great videos.
Great basic and super instructive video! Literally took me 15 minutes for the entire replacement. I had T-30 bolts on the factory bed-liner of my 2010 XLT but everything else was spot-on. Got my handle from Group 1 Auto Parts and delivery and price were seamless and quick. A little lithium grease and I should be good to go for another decade! Thanks!

Simple question, while installing the new handle, do you need to put a lot of torque on the fastening screws? Also, if one of the bolts break, should you try to repair it or replace?

thanks for the help here and your right it was a pretty easy job..Took about a half hour..i notice too they sell these handles are sold at some auto part stores like O'reilly's so it must be pretty common thing..Would like to add that on my 2010 Ranger the T-30 was the size that fit my bolts..The T-27 would work i guess but kind of a sloppy fit and if they were tight it possibly would have stripped it out..The T-30 was nice and snug..Maybe some Rangers are different though i am not sure
another thing to note if it doesn't free up with a little bit of grease or lube. my hinges were out of whack and had to tweak them around with a pair of channel locks works like a charm again
Some people may need to try the T-30 socket.. Maybe different years of Rangers use different sockets..my 2010 was a t-30..Thanks for the help here with the video

I have a 2005 ranger and my handle snapped, however the tailgate is closed. I'm assuming taking the bolts and access panel off while the tailgate is closed is the only way to get it opened, correct?
Yes..... take the bolts off and remove the panels... you can then grab the bars and pull em both toward the center of the gate to open the tail gate for the rest of the install

I had the same problem. Spray it down really well with the grease because its probably locked up. If you look at the video there are two yellow pieces behind the handle. you can squeeze those to get it down.

do all tailgates have this removable plate? I have an oem tailgate that is badly rusted but the main problem I am facing is that the latch will not expand once contracted to open the tailgate, and Im forced to strap it shut with a ratchet to the topper hatch knob so I dont loose cargo or the gate itself. I need to get at the moving parts

My handle is already broken and I have a bed cover. The latches to the bed cover are inside the bed. Any suggestions on how to get the tailgate open, without having access to the inside of the bed? After watching this video, I'm pretty sure I'll be able to replace the handle without any problems. Just need to get the tailgate open.
+Barry Basselgia If you have a locking bed cover you might have to see if there's a way to release the lock on the tonneau cover to access the inside of the tailgate.
Of course mine broke with my soft tonneau cover latched down, so I had to cut holes in it to left it and access the interior panel to change the handle. The cover was pretty old, so I wasn't "quite" as mad about it.

+trubuL Nunez They are locking tabs that lock the tailgate handle rods to the handle so they the latch rods stay secured to the tailgate handle. if they are broke, you should be able to purchase new ones from your dealer. Hope this helps you out. 1aauto.com

Thanks, your videos are super helpful. Easy repair but you do need Torx (star) bits. They have an inexpensive set at Harbor Freight.

Hello, my tailgate won't even lower because the handle is broken off the hinge. Will this fix be sort of the same, just not folded out?

Gotta love planned obsolescence.... These plastic handles break when the mechanism locks up, so here's the replacement handle (also plastic)
