Why you should try a surfski.

- Sessions like this are some of the best parts of paddling a surfski: awesome waves, adrenaline, friends, the occasional mishap, and overall stoke. There are very few places more fun to paddle than Deception Pass even in more moderate conditions. In this video I paddle the Nordic Kayaks Nitro 640 and Double 670, which is probably the first Double Ski ever in Deception Pass and is an awesome boat for both experienced and newer paddlers.
I did a few laps in the Double with Ana Swetish after her foot pedal snapped and then she switched to a backup ski and our friend Kate hopped in and had an awesome time in the Double before also trying a single ski in the pass for her first time!

One of the best surfski videos I've ever seen. Definitely a video to show those who don't know what a surfski is and haven't yet found a sport that addictive!! Well done and thank you.
You're screaming in more ways than 1!
Keep it up, woo-hoo!
It's fantastic!
Incredible man!!
looks amazing
Very nice! 😃
This is sooooo faaast! Amazing!
Nice vid, a keeper, for showing people what's possible. :D'
great work (as always) Wilson. One of my happiest memories from paddling was paddling with DK and Carter in my v14 under the marry hill bridge on a 50mph day with a broken foot brace and a broken ferral and not coming out of the ski in the white water ( a swim would have been an epic beat down). oh yeah Carter also accidentally shut my hand in his van door right before we put in... *extra spicy*
I remember you telling me about that run! Sounded like the best kind of hectic day - minus Carter's car door which has claimed Greg's hand as well as yours...
@wilsonreavley winning is winning mate!
Wow!
Amazing
Thank you! Cheers!
Got a wee bit of water weight in that cockpit! ;)
It always helps to remember to open the bailer...

Living the dream! It looks like not too much wind, but still some sweet waves to catch! I guess with the river there's always an "outgoing tide" to push against the the wind waves swell etc.! Question: With the failed rudder line did you guys have a way to switch to 1 foot steering for left and right or jam something in there to keep the rudder straight or? Thanks for the video!!
Thanks! What actually failed on Ana's ski was the foot pedal itself so the rudder lines were still intact so she could roughly steer with the right pedal and the cracked piece of foot pedal still attached to the left line but not well!
Nice video! What camera did you use and what kind of attachment?
Thanks! I filmed this one with a GoPro Hero 9 on a headstrap
Wilson, what do you recommend for neoprene wear for Winter paddling in Bellingham Bay? I used NRS Hydroskin 0.5 from May-August, but I want to get back out there this Winter.
Sorry for the late reply! It depends on conditions - for true immersion safety a full wetsuit or drysuit with layers is hard to beat but I often mix and match with 3mm Giantfish pants, some sort of mid weight top, and an nrs or similar waterproof jacket with secure wrists. My clothing choices are based around knowing how I react in cold water if I do happen to swim and having a very good understanding of how cold I can get before it will impair my ability to remount or handle my ski - any good clothing choice for the bay in winter should also factor what the conditions are, how far from shore you are, and who you're with. All that said have fun out there, winter winds are usually the best!
Open your bailer so you doing get frost bite on those toes haha
Forgot for a couple laps there haha
Surfski to Sub 😂😂😂
