I really hate this apparent sentiment within the "sim" community that arcade games can't have wheel support, like... y'know, they've had since actual arcade machines since the 80's. Just because a game is "arcade" doesn't mean it has to feel terrible to drive. The Crew has pretty poor physics frankly, but that actually feels pretty decent on a wheel. So does Initial D and Battle Gear. Hell, I went to a Dave & Busters and they had Mario Kart arcade machines with a wheel.
@@Wheatybic No, a lot of people think that. If a racing game comes out that handles like shit and sucks to play they say "Well, it's an arcade game." Need For Speed and The Crew apologists say this all the time to try and counter the point that the game feels like shit to play. And this guy literally said "It's an arcade game, so wheel support isn't expected." Which is horseshit. Most arcade games of old had wheel support.
@@Zaiross7 I play lots of racing games, across the entire spectrum. Enthusia, GT4, Midnight Club 3, Burnout 3, the entire Driver franchise, every DiRT game, Assetto Corsa, Forza, Project Cars, etc. It's not really about being a sim tryhard, it's that modern arcade racers fucking suck so it's collectively wiped the memory of arcade games that are actually fun to play.
The Crew 2 physics dont seem bad for me. I play PC2, Assetto Corsa and GT Sport on my G29, but when i go from those to The Crew 2 and vice versa, i dont struggle that much from the difference of the physics, specially since The Crew 2 has had a big improvement on ffb since its launch. It used to be inexistent, now it atleast reacts to what is happening. The ffb is poor when compared to PC2, but atleast it s present and the physics still have the basics of driving, like having to brake to go into a turn, not being able to floor it in risk of spinning out (still allows a lot of throotle, but not always flooring it without tcs), unlike nfs, where the fastest way to take a corner is by pulling the handbrake... I came here expecting for a miracle, but nfs will never leave the miracle that drifting does to make faster turns...
Just today I used my G27 wheel on my PC to play NFS Heat because of the whole quarantine and I liked it, not much of a sim player but honestly this was the third most fun I had with the wheel only behind of Daytona USA and Gran Turismo 5.
I use to play the old need for speeds on the ps2 with a wheel all the time as a kid so I was super excited for this to happen. I waited so long for this game and payed so much money for the preorder so I hope they continue to update and make things better. But when I get home tonight after work I'm definitely gonna give my wheel a try with it and hope it's like the old days :)
As much as I enjoy Heat, the physics model not simulating anything like weight transfer or loss of grip just feels really, really weird. I like arcade handling models, but NFS just doesn't have one that's truly great. That being said, it's nice to see that the wheel works. I figured that the implementation wouldn't work with the super arcadey handling model, but its good to see it works surprisingly well. I'm surprised to see that the implementation is harmed more by the camera than anything else.
The arcade handling died after underground 2. The games are getting werder. The entire "car control" feels incredibly unpolished and super difficult to maneuver sometimes. I think they are trying to find a good place between realistic and arcade style, but its not there yet. Tho they kinda got it a bit right in this game.
You're opinions at the start mirror my experience in the game with wheel as well. As a result of the vague feeling wheel and lack of clutch i ended to having more fun with controller in this game
Thats the problem I've had with first person driving in gta 5. Its really realistic as far as the graphics, because the speedometer and radio is legit, but the rear view mirror and side mirrors are pointless. You either risk crashing the car reversing, or switch back to 3rd person.
Yeah, I hate blurry rear view mirrors. The Crew suffers pretty badly from it as well. They had blank mirrors, then the Wild Run update added blurry mirrors. The Crew 2 still has the same problem.
Hey man... A curious question... Why don't you mod your paddle shifters... There are bigger paddle shifters to fit the "realistic" dimension wheel mods so that you can again use paddles to drive?
im having an issue with my g920 where my centering spring wont lessen and feels way to strong, like im getting a workout every corner i take, i have tried a lot but cant seem to get it to stay set to the options in both game and ghub app it seems to default back to like a 50% setting when i tab back into the game.
The problem about nfs heat is with the super cars, they have insane grip and you can turn at 250km with no problem feels so unatural I honestly enjoy playing with the Sedans or most "low tier" cars even on some muscle not every muscle (not the modern ones they feel like the super cars) and tracks that have lot of turns and curves Those cars on the turns/corners feels a kind of weight in the car, know when to break to not fly over the track or not under steer, know when to accelerate to not go so open or oversteer, and feels much more rewarding to break in the right time and how you enter the turn/corner
I honestly feel like the devs just fully enabled the steering and drift assist for all platforms. There's no way in hell a car would be able to wiggle itself into a fixed angle after drifting, taking light curves, or even off-roading... Physics like this aren't even in Wreckfest or Burnout Paradise Remastered.
hey i was thinking about buying a steering wheel for racing games. how do i know which ones to buy? are there specific wheels for specific games or does one work universally for all games that are compatible? i play on ps4

Then I purchased Dirt 4 and played that for a couple of weeks & the feedback with the clutch and what not made racing physics even more interesting.
