  • Over time, wax gets hard and difficult to work because of brood casings and propolis. But, after putting a lot of work into removing old hives from buildings, it would be a pity to waste the resources that honey bees spent so much time building. The old black comb from these 2 beehives were years old. So, I wasn't sure how much clean wax would remain. Or more than that - would it render at all?

Even if it’s not pretty looking you can always render it down to wax your plastic frames! Win win.

Does the water separate out from the wax as it cools? Do you then remelt the wax from each batch together to make your final block of wax?

Yes. The wax floats on top of the water. With wax this dark, I melted & filtered the first time to get most of the gunk out. Then, I melted a second time to clean it better.
