    Hi Jerome! Great Video! I have to tell hubby we need a roaster cooker smile. We are using just about the same process but in an enamel pot on the stove. What a mess (smile) I am finding that goo gone cleans up bees wax really fast and well. Going on to your part two Oh by the way once go daddy decides to post our website, I have you listed as a youtube beekeeper channel folks can check out If that is not ok let me know and I will take you off ok? It is at the bottom of the first lesson I have on the website. Your farm is looking good!

      Hey Bee Lady, good to hear from you! Those roasters can be picked up on sale after Thanksgiving for under $20. lol I don't think I ever made a part 2 to that video. I should do it today because it's raining all day. lol That's fine with me to reference my videos. I do them to help others, and also help myself to improve on improvisational speaking skills. Thanks so much for adding me to your lessons, and for stopping by and commenting. Have a great day.

      I use cheese cloth. I made a "stand" out of hardware cloth, cover up the entire top, over the sides, with the cheese cloth and melt the wax into the water. Just have to remove the hardware cloth stand before the wax sets....yes, I have forgot once. :)

    • @JeromeBeeFarm
      @JeromeBeeFarm  6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yeah Dan, you can make all kinds of stuff with it. First use is to melt it and roll it out like paint on new plastic foundation so bees take to it better. We also add essential oils and make lip balm, like Burt's bees, and body lotion sticks that we put into deodorant stick containers. Last year my wife made one with cocoa oil and it smelled like chocolate. lol Thanks for watching and take care brother.

    great job; I had a box of frames this season that required lots of wax; you can never have too much wax; one of my management strategies is to insert a super frame in each double deep hive; the bees draw out the bottom of the frame in drone brood which I feed the chickens and I do find mites but I wish I could save the wax; the chickens usually eat it all

    • @JeromeBeeFarm
      @JeromeBeeFarm  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've seen people do that before. I didn't know if they did it on purpose or if they just ran out of deeps. lol My chickens were just babies this spring/summer when I was getting all the drone burr comb. I just wadded it up and froze it. I gave them some that I showed on the video. They picked out the drones and left the wax.

    Put your cappings into a 5 gallon paint straining bag, available at HD or Lowe’s, let the wax melt then pick up the bag. Should be all the cocoons and othe trash inside the bag. I also aqueeze the bag some to get all the wax I can out of the slum gum.

      I've done it and it's really hard to squeeze it enough while it's still hot enough to be melted, when you do large amounts. I think it would be workable with small amounts

      Hi Wallroad Zipper. Actually I have not filtered that block of wax yet. Sorry about that. I just finished this year's honey harvest and have one probably 5 times that size to work. I intend to make a video of that and show how I filter it. Stay tuned. Thanks for watching and commenting.

      Thanks for taking the time to do these videos. We have just 5 hives down here in Georgia. Harvested them last week, did good. Ended up with a lot of cappings. I've been beekeeping for 9 years, but can always learn something new. Looked for an easier way to process it and found your video. Your use of an electric cooker rather than boiling on the stove is good. Bought one at thrift shop for $13. Will wait for part 2 before proceeding.

    • @JeromeBeeFarm
      @JeromeBeeFarm  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@30030Decatur I use a paper towel for the filter. My solar melter has a spot where the paper towel fits above a metal screen. I haven't strained a big block like this before. I had intended to use a paper towel in a metal spaghetti strainer mounted above the final mold location. With this big a block, I was going to use an old crock pot for the secondary pot for the filtered wax, and then locate it from there into the molds.

    I'am always melts some to make sure there no larva. Wax moths want touch it once melted. I like to melt it and pour it threw a strainer , them smash it round to get all the wax out. Then take the stainer dump it into the trash can> Just seems easier and faster in a pot with a handle lmao we need a kettle like Mr. Ed got That guy is set up BIG TIME

    Why do hobbyists do it the hard way. I like you process, but such waste of leaving wax in the slum.
    Use a big pot. Melt the wax with a lot of water. Take a strainer and sink it into the wax. The wax will seep through the strainer and be held without slum. Take a ladle and scoop it out and into a small bucket with a little hot water on the bottom. No filter, no pressing. One process and you're done. Scrap the excess dirt from the bottom of the block and you have it ready for storage or melting.
