yah he was probably the most impactful Indian batsmen in the 2000s (along with Dravid), likely more than even Tendulkar. he made lot of excellent knocks in tough situations, even though he may not have scored big.

Listening on radio sitting over heap of burnstics, I can recollect that aussies brought fielders inside the circle to stop VVS from reaching 100 but he managed to pick the ball early and played it for a four over the heads. We all jumped in tremendous joy. Wow! nowadays cricket has more of statistics but back then it was an emotional affair.
