This video goes over how to clean or replace a mass airflow sensor on a 2017 Infiniti QX60 with a 3.5 motor. This should also be the same process for any (first generation) 2014-2020 Infiniti QX60 with 3.5. A Mass Air Flow sensor (MAF) determines the mass of air entering a vehicle's fuel injection engine, and passes that data to the Engine Control Unit (ECM). Without an accurate signal from the MAF sensor, the ECM won’t know how much fuel to give the engine. That can either cause the engine to run rich (too much fuel) or lean (too little fuel). The engine's computer uses the MAF sensor to determine how much fuel is to be injected to meet the proper air/fuel ratio. It compensates for weather, altitude or your various driving conditions. Signs of a bad MAF would be a check engine light, poor idle, hard starting, misfiring, a change in fuel consumption, or lack of engine performance. A lot of times if your car is performing poorly or not starting, you can disconnect the mass airflow sensor. The vehicle will then switch to limp mode and then the car may idle or start better, thus proving your theory that the mass airflow sensor isn’t performing to the proper factory specifications.
