2011 I drove from Vancouver (CA) to Tijuana (MX), and as a fan, the Sleater-Kinney intersection was one of my few must-see locations! I still have a photo of me leaning on the pole there :)
Judging by the singles, this album seems like it could be a return to form. Great to hear Corin belting it again. She has been oddly muted on the last couple records.
They always claimed that Napster and free streaming/downloading destroyed music… I beg to differ. Years ago, I got into Sleater-Kinney directly due to Napster. Was always interested in them, but never wanted to shell out $ for an album until I heard more of them. One night, I downloaded two songs off of their album “The Hot Rock”… the next day, I RAN to the local Virgin Megastore and purchased their entire back catalog! Been a big fan ever since.
Almost exactly my story except it was songs off that 1st album. Now I have merch, entire catalogue, book, multiple concerts, and turned on many others to their music, but it started w Napster for me too.
Nothing makes me feel like a teenager again like SK having a new album come out. I remember skipping school when Dig Me Out came out to go to the release party in Seattle.
Yeah, while I think this is a good performance overall, the drumming is bland. Little Rope has a few very good songs, but Weiss's absence is still conspicuous and they're diminished without her.
Carrie Brownstein is insanely talented. I'd heard of this band in the 90s but no interest (nothing personal). Watched 'Portlandia' and now I know how awesome she is.
Janet brought a real power & additional dimension to the music. Some of the post-Janet are really good, but I find the albums a lot more inconsistent. @@GabrielTravelerVideos
She told drummer Joe Wong on his podcast The Trap Set With Joe Wong that former bandmates Carrie Brownstein and Corin Tucker said “the rules changed” ahead of the new album. “I said, ‘Am I just the drummer now?’ They said yes,” she explained. “And I said, ‘Can you tell me if I am still a creative equal in the band?’ And they said no. So I left.”
I was like " I think I know that gal from St Vincent" did a wiki search and see she toured with them before, undoubtedly introduced them to her by Annie Clark.
@@CaptainPengu She also plays guitar which I first noticed in the live versions of "Birth in Reverse" when St Vincent landed on my radar. Choreographed movements with Annie made me take notice. My inner brain when I saw her with SK was "come on dude, there's more that one asian rock keyboardist out there" but I had to find out.
I agree. While I like this performance overall, the drumming is fairly bland. While I think there are some very good songs on Little Rope, I can see why she left after The Center Won't Hold. It seems clear Carrie and Corin want full control now.
I tried to Share this great performance to my Facebook page but Facebook disallowed it on the grounds that others have reported it as "ABUSIVE"! What the actual...???

Agreed. No Cities to Love was the last album I got into. Couldn't get into The Center Won't Hold, I don't really care for St. Vincent and having her involved and bringing those synth elements made their sound too linear and sterile for me. Probably more appealing to the mainstream and more in line with current trends, but I definitely loved their more raw sound with Janet.
same. as far as im concerned sleater-kinney broke up after no cities to love, and this is a side project. and i've loved every one of carrie and corin's side projects, including this one. but it isn't sk

Fred is killing it on tambourine.
Mr. Armisen quietly destroying the tambourine
dude guys, I noticed him and I laughed so hard, thinking of his Netflix special...oh man@@mateus2
I was just gonna make that joke! That's actually him??
Gosh, decades later and they're still killing it
Right? Sorry Janet had to leave but it was always more of a Two headed monster.
Also gotta love when ol' Fred Armisen sneaks in there 2:27 to play some tambourine. What a cool friendship.
Sleater Kinney, I laugh every time I take this exit in OLY, WA! ❤️
I was just on Sleater Kinney yesterday to go to Office Depot and Value Village!
I made my daughter listen to Sleater Kinney while we drove down Sleater Kinney. ... She told me to keep my eyes on the road. 😢

Corin crushed it. 🔥Instant smile seeing Carrie and Fred together
One of the best SK tv performances ever! This sounded incredible 💗💗💗🤓

I was in the audience today....i definately found me a new band to follow...
You're a little late.
@@jmulvey371bit elitist there indie cred guy
@@mopedals1921 Sure dude. Buy a dictionary.
Check out Cadallaca, a side project they did in the late 90s, it's pretty catchy!
@@jmulvey371You’re a lot lame for that response. Just let ppl enjoy music no matter when they discover it. Bet you’ve been there!
They are fantastic, Corin's voice gets better and better with the time wow
I love her wail!
LOL no
Amazing guitar tone on that lead.... damn.
I love driving past Sleater Kenney exit on the way to Olympia WA
what a voice
It took me a minute to realize that was Fred that snuck out at the end to play tambourine, lol. Love it.
Thank you! I'm sad to had to have scrolled so far to see that someone else noticed it. They have a unique relationship for sure.
Damn, this is such a good song.
You ladies are simply gorgeousness
And the punk! Glorious.
What a voice, what a band! Can't wait for Little Rope to come out!

Thanks, Jimmy! Great to see this elusive band! Love them♡♡♡♡♡
Ive got to give it to jimmy kimmel. He always has incredible musical guests

2:45 Fred Armisen on tambourine 🎶
i live right down the road from sleater-kinney.....oly wa ;)
I love this band! ✊🏽♀️
Dude, can’t wait to see you guys live! ❤

Okay Fred Armisen on tambourine lol

I was in the audience today....Jimmy referred to him as a special surprise guest.
He's like a human Easter Egg.

@@elbrucesYea .. Carrie Brownstien … plays guitar in SK …
Hope SK come back to the UK next year. Best live band I've ever seen!
OMG!!! Sleater-Kinney are
grunge/indie pioneers.
🎉❤🎉❤ Ooo, i love that Gibson SG, Carrie Brownstein, is playing!🎸
I'm sure I read somewhere that Eddie Vedder of Pearl Jam gave her that guitar at the end of a tour they supported them on
I realy hope the rest of Sleater Kinney's new album is good. I can expect the college radio stations to play Say It Like You Mean It.
Looking at the video cover shot, I was like “wait, Janet Weiss is back? Did I miss something?” Sadly, no, I didn’t miss anything.
Yeah, while I think this is a good performance overall, the drumming is bland. Little Rope has a few very good songs, but Weiss's absence is still conspicuous and they're diminished without her.
I've watched this so many times..... what an incredible performance!
when you've got it you've got it!
Is that Fred in the background on the tambourine? lol Portlandia Pride
always in love with Corin
This was better than the album version. Oh, Corin. You slay me.
This is one of their best live performances on TV. Corin's performance here is better than the recorded version.
These Girls Made Best Song
I’m just sad I missed seeing Quasi. Janet and Sam put out a good album this year.
Amazing band❤❤❤❤❤❤
This is awesome🎉❤

Fantastic performance! Loving both new singles, but SILYMI sounds terrific live! Excited for the tour! 🙂
Just heard the album version. Prefer this live take. The guitar and synths really stand out.
I've never listened to these gals before but damn, this is my kind of music. Will have to look into their stuff.
The albums w/ Janet Weiss on drums are the best.
Cool, good to know.

There has only been one album without Janet on it. Path of Wellness. She left after recording The Center Won't Hold.
Corin is sounding great!
Their best song thus far.
think I noticed Fred on tambourine, LOL
Love you!!!
Stonking tune 🖤
Love this band ❤
Great melody ladies
Always Goo😮d used to see them about 30 years ago
Awesome 👏
I wish I still loved Sleater Kinney; I don't feel it anymore without Janet Weiss. 😔
Their tv performances are usually nervy affairs, but they really crushed this.
About to go pick up my kids on Sleater-Kinney
Toko Yasuda on synth/keys!!!!!

I couldn't focus on the song... that tambourinist was something else

Corin sounds amazing, healthy.

Corin's vox are so tight.
Fred out there just supporting his wife.

I know , it's a joke lol
The new album is great.
I think it has a couple very good songs, but a few are underwhelming. It's good, but not great.
YES!!!!
sounds inspiring uncouth and dirty . deep inside with all the simplicity of the story
Depeche Mode sample 😊
izthat fred on tamborine?
I like this better than the vid I saw before!
(Still needs Janet!)
Haim hallelujah too!
Had to wait a while for a Carrie kick, but yep.....there's the first one right after the solo
is that cowbell in the song or is that a click track that's on by accident
I do like a lot of their recent material, but man, they just aren't the same without Janet.
Weird creative decision, Janet Rips
Exactly what I think every time I listen to a song. I love SK but Janet's absence is very obvious.
