Steven, a heads up and way simpler way of tying the Trucker's Hitch from a an 'Old School' Flat Bed (Skateboard) Truck Driver of 32 years (I never knew it had a name), one end is secured on the other side of the trailer take the loose end of the rope and make a loop holding it in my left hand (I'm right handed) with the loose end wrapped around the trailer's side rail wrap it around the loop in my left hand 'twice' with the second wrap on top of the first then pull the loose end as hard as needed to make the rope 'ting' when flipped, on the other end of the trip simply release the two loops to it will simply release and be a straight rope again for the next time it's needed, good luck.
you're gonna go through a lot of kayak handles using that system. you could even break the kayak's plastic itself. better to install a padeye or 4 if you're gonna be doing that. and you don't even need the front and back tied down that tight. they're just to prevent sliding forward/back. just use an adjustable grip hitch or rolling hitch without the trucker's hitch. it's the straps that go over the top of the kayak that need to be tight, and not even tight enough to warrant that hitch.
Your self locking system lost tension the moment you let go. You did everything either backwards or wrong. I hope this faulty instruction doesn't get anyone hurt.
I prefer an alpine butterfly to the slipknot in the standing line. I had some instance where the slipknot tightened around my rope and I had trouble undoing the knot.
It's called an automatic truckers hitch... You have tied it upside down. A better version is a Kobe hitch... It looks the same at the end just it's more efficient at locking down on itself...I believe you are aware that this hitch is overkill for your boat and liable to damage it.
I was going to use bacon instead of rope, but I ate all the pork. Thanks
That's funny 😂

Seriously the clearest explanation on how to do this knot. Thank you!
Going to tie down my yaks on the roof for the first time. I have the J cradles, using this knot for the bow. Thanks!
Great tip, thanks
1:58 is the key. Thanks. Other than being upside down. : )

Good tutorial thanks for the help, what’s the song in the background?

Good video. No bs, no pussyfooting, just showed the thing and concluded. Thank you

Super explanation thanks!

Check out a reinforced slip knot. It will never kink your line.
@@Dontput that's interesting, thanks.
I've since started using a bowline for the standing knot, thanks for the watch! th-cam.com/video/86nLa720zTk/w-d-xo.html
If it tightened you used the standing end, rather than the working end.
Is that you and your wife singing Stephen
Should try a bowline at the bottom . Easier to untie. Good job though

Nice!
The video was great until you the end. The two knots at the end aren't well-explained.

This guy is doing this knot AGAINST gravity!!! In other words.... Upside down!! 🤣🤦🏻♂️ Another thumbs 👎🏻 video!
You tied a Baker bowline.
That not the actual truckers hitch...
Its a far weaker simpler version...
You should at least make that clear when teaching
That’s a crappy truckers hitch mate. I could tie 3 truckers knots that would beat your beginner’s knot. Thanks for trying just the same.
